For the second consecutive day, Roy Halladay and his agent were in Philadelphia to iron out a deal that would not only send the Cy Young winning pitcher to the Phillies, but keep him here until at least the end of the 2013 season. Yesterday, I imagine they spent the majority of their time locked inside a meeting room somewhere discussing the specifics of his contract, but today, Roy had to brave the streets of Philadelphia for the first time since the trade was announced so he could take his physical.
There to greet him just outside the Rothman Institute on 9th & Chestnut with a camera crew and microphone was rogue 6abc reporter, Jeff Skversky. Here is a transcript of their mostly one-sided conversation:
Jeff Skversky: Are you excited to join the Phillies?
Roy Halladay: I can’t right now, guys. I’ll catch you later. Thanks.
JS: You think this deal’s gonna go through?
RH: …
JS: Roy, how excited are you to be coming to the Phillies?
RH: …
JS: Roy, you excited to be coming to the Phillies?
RH: …

Is halladays wife hot?
December 16th, 2009 at 12:04 am
That comment from the anchor at the end came of a little threatening to me: “Next time we see him, he *will* be trying on that jersey.”
Or else.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:06 am
I won’t watch the video because awkward moments/conversations make me uncomfortable.
Seeing him in Philadelphia makes this all seem more real. I really can not wait until Spring Training.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Here is what I took from that:
Roy Halladay: Nice guy who knew he couldnt talk about the deal until it becomes official
Jeff Skadfajsdhfadfasdf: douchebag
December 16th, 2009 at 12:27 am
The gay in me needs to point out that Cliff Lee is way hotter / less weird.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:38 am
best interview ive ever watched
December 16th, 2009 at 12:52 am
I’m pretty sure Roy is single
December 16th, 2009 at 12:55 am
I want to know everyone’s take on what happens if Halladay gets really pissed after being asked questions over and over again and spins around and punches Jeff out. I’m actually laughing just thinking to myself what would be running through Ruben’s mind at that point. No matter what the result would have been, I’m sure Oogie would have enjoyed that outcome much more.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Nah Wrecked Em, Roy is married. I actually think there is a Fightins post from last summer that shows him and his wife at a press conference. Some doushebag Blue Jay announcers made her cry when they asked her about her hubby being traded.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:57 am
I hate to do the triple post here, but I just wanted to quickly mention that Halladay is sans-beard in this interview and this will not stand. If we are paying 20 million a year, he damned well better have that reddish beard.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:58 am
Halladay needs to grow back that beard ASAP. that way i can say I’m Roy Halladay and will be able to get many girls.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:59 am
so, is this the slowest trade in the history of Earth
December 16th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Is it just me or did that “interview” come off as an old-school Stuttering John approach?
December 16th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Eric Bruntlett left a gaping hole in the beard department, that much is true.
Is Jeff Skversky trying to get a job at TMZ? He needs to stay 50 feet away from Roy at times in the future.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Maria, are you exited to come to the phillies?
/50 feet away’d
December 16th, 2009 at 1:14 am
If there isn’t a beard clause in Roy’s contract, then I take back everything I’ve said supporting this trade and will declare Ruben and completel and utter moron.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:17 am
Jeff must be the Veronica Corningstone of the ABC news team…I bet he is covering a cat fashion show tomorrow
December 16th, 2009 at 1:22 am
100 feet just to be sure.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:23 am
And now, we go to 6 ABC’s own Fred Savage for a terse and awkward exchange with the Phillies’ new ace
December 16th, 2009 at 1:25 am
roy’s never going to act out because he is a very polite mormon. if you want him to talk you have to ask about the prophet.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Haha I already love Roy Halladay but this is classic because Jeff Skvoiskystienberg is a douche
December 16th, 2009 at 2:20 am
double whammy: sweet reddish beard and brandy halladay all in the same pic.
http://mopupduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/roybrandy.jpg
December 16th, 2009 at 2:25 am
The only thing that can top this is if Halladay does this to that guy all season.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:33 am
That’s not Jeff, that’s Fred Savage!
December 16th, 2009 at 2:55 am
He doesn’t look as lovably sloven as Cliff…..I miss his stretched out long sleeves already.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:27 am
as a name..
Harry Leroy Halladay >,<, or = Clifton Phifer Lee?
Harry Halladay sounds like he could've been the classic goofball from a 1940s bullpen
December 16th, 2009 at 4:57 am
His getaway vehicle had Jersey plates…..hmmm……I wonder if he is staying at Cholly’s house down the street from me
December 16th, 2009 at 7:28 am
did jeff interview juan castro yet?
December 16th, 2009 at 7:54 am
That sucks about his voice, I guess he’ll have to win over us fans on the field.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:04 am
I have the feeling the next time Jeff Interviews Roy its going to go something like this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC5ZxMqjXsI&feature=player_embedded
December 16th, 2009 at 8:11 am
Bigger fail, the “interview” or the decision to run that embarrassing footage?
Interview.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:17 am
MSM FUCKING FAILS AGAIN
December 16th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Jeff Skversky is no John Clark
December 16th, 2009 at 9:07 am
Speaking of which, can someone strangle John Clark for me? Or maybe every local sports anchor? God I hate your shit eating grins and plastic enthusiasm. I know you couldn’t give two shits about Tyrone Hill’s hemorrhoids or Reno Mahe’s birthday, but could you just cut back on the counterfeit good humor and dental hygienist’s friendly banter?
FUCK YOU VAI SIKAHEMA.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:33 am
@dlhunter- I agree… It’s painful hearing sports anchors trying to be funny a la John Clark, canadian on ch6 , hottie amy fadool… big can’s jade McCarthy will be missed
December 16th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Throw a pair of glasses on him an he looks like Ralphie from Christmas Story…grown up.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:40 am
@brunt force trauma
So true!
December 16th, 2009 at 10:00 am
@Walklett
Your like a minature buddha…all wrapped in fur.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:01 am
So when’s the press conference?
December 16th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Looks like Josh Homme to me… at least when he’s got the ginger stubble.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:22 am
That channel 6 reporter puts the Action in ACTION News.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Nothing beats last year’s Pedro “on the street” interview, where he told the reporter to go get a bat. love it
December 16th, 2009 at 10:35 am
In that same interview (maybe same interviewer), he called Marshall Harris papa and made him look like a big douchebag.
December 16th, 2009 at 10:54 am
These pictures make me sick. Enjoy Halladay, folks. He’s the greatest.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:04 am
eyebleaf, well this makes us sick
http://majorleaguejerk.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/carter.jpg
December 16th, 2009 at 11:06 am
atleast he didn’t randy johnson the guy haha…
December 16th, 2009 at 11:14 am
a “Randy Johnson” sounds like a cool english penis
December 16th, 2009 at 11:15 am
I called the Phillies yesterdya to renew my season tickets. The guy that answered my call in the ticket office said “Phillies tickets. May I help you?”
I said “I’d like to renew my season tickets, but I’m a little upset that, as a season ticket holder for over thirteen years, I wasn’t consulted on the Halladay/Lee trade.”
There was a two-second pause followed by “I can get your credit card number anytime you’re ready, sir.”
So much for my opinion.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:18 am
lol doc shouldve randy johnson’d him. what a douchenozzle.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:54 am
im calling this right now: ruben finds a way to unload blanton on the A’s, his former team and they take Michael Taylor, sending us brett wallace so we can send him to the jays with drabek and d’arnaund. we keep lee. and get halladay.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Billy Beane is too smart to pay Joe Blanton $7 million dollars.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Billy Beane is dumb enough to take Michael Taylor.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Michael Taylor is good though!
December 16th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Oh don’t get me wrong taylor is a good player… but i just feel like theres more to this than a bunch of physicals. i am more than prepared to eat my words.. just something i’ve been pondering. ruben is a sneaky bastard
December 16th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
evan i so hope that you’re right. interesting that the M’s refuse to comment on the trade. they could say SOMETHING if it was definitely happening. like that they’re looking forward to having him there or whatever.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Possibly. I just don’t know what more could happen at this point, save for some GM calling up Rube and offering a better package than Seattle is giving up for Lee. Which I would be fine with.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Anyone else anticipating Roy Halladay to do the Steve Carlton silent routine?
December 16th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
stinkbug, your right but the phillies havent really commented on the trade either. teams don’t really issue statements during negotiations, its all pretty much hearsay. but with how quickly and under the radar we got lee last year, i wouldnt be surprised to see something different come out of the negotiations with oakland. (if gillick was still gm that would never happen)
December 16th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
I think calling Rube a “sneaky bastard” is giving him too much credit. If he pulled the rug out from under the Mariners at this point, he’d pretty much have to retire because no other GM in the league would want to do business with him in the future.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
waving your junk at another team in the M’s division is a good move. M’s might get caught up in a bid war for Lee or the A’s might offer up a package. all this al west trade talk, sucks for the T’s and other A’s.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
thats what im sayin will. the phillies have quite a bit of leverage in saying hey we know if we give up cliff you will not stand a chance in that division, not that they stand a chance anyway, but its worth it. and gaze, this is a business, who cares if we hurt someones feelings.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
gaze id agree only if they had a prelim agreement. If they were in disagreement about who goes where for whom, i could see the Lee deal falling apart. You’re right though, other GM’s would be suspicious but I question how much. Rube made the deal straight up for Halladay.. the Lee deal would be to replace all those missing studs in our farm system. Sometimes deals fall apart last minute. Im trying to think of a few but none instantly come to mind. I’ve never seen a sure-trade drag out like this.
December 16th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
I just don’t understand why they are still insisting that both of these trades need to go down simultaneously. If Halladay, Drabek, Taylor, and D’Arnaud have passed their physicals, and Halladay has agreed to an extension, why can’t the Phils-Jays deal be done and over with? Is Rube in Dave Montgomery’s office right now on his hands and knees pleading for $9M more dollars?
December 16th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
i hope to God he is. but honestly its been “close” to being completed since monday… make the announcement already!
December 16th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
MyFoxPhilly has learned that the press conference will be late this afternoon. We will carry it live here and on TV
December 16th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
fair enough, no news because ruben was dishing out food to the homeless. at least he’s a good person
December 16th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Someone involved in one of the trades failed their physical but there’s no more specific info than that.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Apparently its one of the minor leaguers who failed. If there’s a god it will be Aumont and the Lee trade will be voided…..
December 16th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
“OK Mr. Gillies, this shouldn’t take long. Just to start, I’m going to check yo-” “WHAT?”
December 16th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
ESPN Philly says it’s Aumont.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
i would shit a brick
December 16th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
What the balls is ESPN Philly? Do you have a link?
December 16th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
ESPN Radio 950, sorry for the very quick report.
What are the odds Morrow gets brought into this trade?
December 16th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
maybe we’ll get brendan morrow now
December 16th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
hmm thanks
December 16th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Getting Morrow WOULD be amazing, but I’ll wait for more than what a very quick radio report tells me. STILL could be anyone.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
according to twitter:
@TSNBASEBALL: Apparently Aumont passed, Gillies did not take one. Could it be Draebek who failed?
@APgelston: #Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. hopeful Halladay deal will be completed by end of today. He says talks could extend to Thursday
thats not very helpful
December 16th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
#Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. hopeful Halladay deal will be completed by end of today. He says talks could extend to Thursday. 8 minutes ago from web
#Phillies GM Amaro: A lot of it depends on what happens over the next couple of hours.” 7 minutes ago from web
these are from dan gelston
December 16th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
zeke if i recall correctly the league only gave them 72 hours to get it done and that was on sunday.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
This is absolutely fucking crazy.
Also, how the fuck did Jason “Damaged Goods” Knapp pass HIS physical back in July?
December 16th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
stinkbug, youre right. shit. this is getting out of hand
December 16th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Apparently Aumont passed. So it could be Ramirez, Drabek, D’Arnaud or Taylor.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
that’s a really shitty good-to-bad ratio
December 16th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
According to Scott Lauber on twitter it is Taylor who did not pass.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
here’s his blog post:
http://blogs.delawareonline.com/philledin/
“Keep in mind that Michael Taylor, a key component because the Jays intend to deal him to Oakland for Brett Wallace, had some minor elbow issues during the winter-ball season in Mexico. Right now, though, it would be pure speculation to assume Taylor didn’t pass.”
December 16th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
If it’s Michael Taylor, just replace him with Brown so we can all go home and watch Doc’s press conference.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Dom Brown is a big step up from Michael Taylor, that would be unwise.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
what if they failed their mental too
doubley weirrd
December 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
brown would be the first 5 tool player on the phillies since
?
dont trade him, suckas
December 16th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
They say the deal won’t fall through. If it’s Drabek it could end up being a godsend.
December 16th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
I have a feeling this won’t end up being a big deal. If it’s Drabek, depending on what caused him to fail the physical, the Jays might just take him anyway.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
phillieszone
Official announcement of Halladay trade today still not out of the question, source says. Indications there has been no deal-breaking issue.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
offer them a lifesize poster of Taylor instead
December 16th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
It’s all good, deal is done, press conference at 5 PM
December 16th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Deal’s official.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
totally false rumor
http://twitter.com/GloBlair/status/6739547187
December 16th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
As a Jays fan. That video makes me sad. You guys got one helluva baseball player & an unbelievable person for your community. Players on your team are going to be in complete awe of of his fierce competitiveness & work ethic.
I’d love nothing more than to see Roy & the Phils win it all this year.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Just so you all know, this would have been #100 but I have to go watch “Ninja Assassin.”
Peace I’m out.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
99
December 16th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
100.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Blue Jays always seem to develop high quality pitchers. Carpenter, Halladay, Guzman, Stieb, Clancy & Key, as well as trade for other quality pitchers like Morris, Cone, Stewart. Let me know the day Doc is pitching in Philly and I will drive down just to see him. He is that good.
December 16th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Doc will even be better in the NL East. He will not have to pitch complete games anymore with the likes of Howard & company. I can see Doc being lifted in the late innings he pitches for a pinch hitter because Philly will be on top. He will hit a whopping .200 but don’t ask him to run the bases. He is too valuable. The AL East is dominated by heavy hitters (Yankees, Red Sox) and Doc “took them both to school.”
Another WS for Philly.
