No Baseball Today – So Here’s More Photoshopped Ice Cream
Posted by Tug Haines at 10:21 pm ET 56 Comments

With the exception of my 13-hour workday, this baseball-free Wednesday was pretty relaxing. I’ll admit to feeling a little cold and alone without any sort of game on the tube, but I manage to fill that negative space as I always do: by obsessing over Paul Simon’s Graceland, eating too many Freezie Pops and dicking around with Photoshop.

¡Hora de Helado!
¡Hora de Helado!

If you’re not into the whole “Chooch + Ice Cream” thing, I suggest you take a good hard look in the mirror and ask yourself where you went wrong in your life.

Here’s some actual news:

Dodgers rotation goes Kershaw, Padilla, Kuroda, Wolf. So it’s Hamels and Kershaw to kick off the series. And Big Zo seems to think Cholly has fingered Pedro to start Game 2. Martinez vs. Padilla. Not exactly a marquee matchup along the lines of Lee vs. Sabathia, but it’s definitely a curiosity.

Oh yeah. Don’t be surprised if they don’t play on Sunday. Big-ass Nor’easter coming in this weekend.

According to Andy Martino: “Team sources say that Brett Myers is off the LCS roster.”

Breaking:

Kendrick and Myers yanked from the NLCS roster in favor of Park and Bruntlett.

  6. Mike59 Says:

You could do one of these everyday for the rest of my life and it would never, ever get old.

  7. fuck the mets Says:

    I like to pwn n00bs

  8. Gaze Says:

I’ll bet Myers is feeling like an ass… after all that hooting and hollering around the locker room.

  9. Eric Says:

More off days can only help us in this series. Having Cole and Lee is huge, and however we can get them to pitch as many games as possible can only benefit. Conversely, there is nobody on the Dodgers that you want to limit the number of times you see them. Kershaw might be tough, but he is young and still inconsistent, so I’m extremely hesitant to say he is going to shut us down continuously. Further, if you face somebody like the Yankees, you only want to have to face CC/Burnett twice each. So, if we can slide Cole out there three times potentially, I have to think that works in our favor.

  10. Tug Haines Says:

But Eric, don’t forget: these guys just plain don’t hit with RISP!

  11. Tug Haines Says:

Oh, and Kershaw is getting lit up. Phillies are going home with a 2-0 series lead. You heard it here first, folks.

  12. Sara Says:

@ftm sandra bullock has testicular cancer.

    cause she’s a dude.

  13. Mand Says:

actually these guys have been much better with risp than in the last few weeks of the season as well as last year’s postseason. although not good, but better.

p.s. i hate dodger’s fans. bunch of pompous asses. let’s get ti done early folks i don’t want this series to go back to l.a. two games at dodger stadium is about all i can take without punching something.

  14. Mand Says:

also, mr. 171 eric bruntlett has made his way onto the nlcs roster. awesome.

  15. will.H Says:

he’ll probably hit a walk off

  16. will.H Says:

of course, there will be no RISP

  17. Phylan Says:

I’d take a 12th pitcher over a guy who has an OPS+ of TWENTY ONE any day, even if he plays every position (poorly)

  18. Tug Haines Says:

Phylan, you never answered my question from the live blog the other night.

  19. Phylan Says:

    Oops, what was the question?

  20. Tug Haines Says:

There was a lot of chatter, it’s perfectly understandishable.

    Slower baserunner: Feliz or Burrell?

  21. will.H Says:

    definitely burrell

  22. Phylan Says:

Oh I did answer that. I said Feliz. That’s a tough one though. Let me look some shit up.

  23. maxL Says:

How can there possibly be a SLOWER base runner than Burrell? He’s slower than molasses running uphill. With crutches.

  24. Phylan Says:

    OK nevermind it’s definitely Burrell.

  25. yes Says:

    CHANNNNNNNNNN HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  26. maxL Says:

Hopefully, Chan Ho’s been growing that beard out. He’s gonna need it to pitch effectively.

  27. Eric Says:

Tug, thank you. That gave me a good laugh.

Another note: ESPN just did a feature where the topic was ‘experience’ and apparently the lessons the Dodgers learned last year are going to benefit them exponentially. Key thing ignored: winning a World Series may teach a team a thing or two.

  28. Lynniemac Says:

Definitely Burrell. No questions asked. Ironically, he did have two steals and the Rays successfully squeezed with him this season. That was probably all down to novelty and shock value, though.

  29. yes Says:

    -at Eric

I’m not surprised to hear that; at this point, I’m not sure what else the Phillies are supposed to do to get some credit. I will hand it to ESPN though, I’m surprised they had time to air such a feature in between fellating the Yankees and overhyping each Monday Night Football broadcast.

  30. Harry Kalas Murder Conspiracy Theory Says:

and i heard Harold Reynolds on MLB network… he was chubbing up while talking about Joba, and he was like, “he reminds of the guy the Phillies use out of the bullpen, uh, uh, i forget his name…” what an ass

  31. Gonzo Says:

    What about a Chooch/FreeziePop combo?

  32. muscles Says:

damnit, I’m going sunday! i guess taking off of work AGAIN is better then getting pneumonia

  33. Jocksniffer Says:

Cholly’s hands are in “beat off” position. Anyone wanna try their hand at that Photoshoppage?

  34. Lynniemac Says:

    @Jocksniffer: Please god, no.

  35. Mr. Bryan Says:

I never get tired of the Chooch photoshops.

  36. MoyerIsMyHero Says:

@Eric – That ESPN deal illustrates perfectly what is at stake this year. If I recall correctly, in the past you have chided participants here for complaining about the Phillies, using the argument that we should be happy because they got us a WFC last year. A valid point, but I think you can see what some of us are looking for this year – the job is not done until this team gets some bloody respect from the likes of ESPN (and the TBS schedulers, at that).

  37. Eric Says:

Moyer – I understand where you’re coming from, but the Phils are never gonna get the benefit of that doubt. We could win 4 rings in a row and we would still get the 2:37 time slot in the 5th season. While it would be nice to validate last year, I am just as happy to continue to prove all of those idiots wrong. My earlier post about ESPN wasn’t so much complaining or disgust, just general bemusement, I suppose.

But as I have already stated, if you are measuring success on trying to validate last year, we have already done that and then some. Nobody thought we would even win the East again this season. Here we are, in the final 4 once again. I am damn proud of what we accomplished to this point and think we have a very legitimate shot at getting back to the WS.

  38. James Fayleez Says:

    @yes

Don’t encourage that Hacksaw Jim Duggan Chan Ho stuff.

It’s the worst shirt on Birdland.

  39. MoyerIsMyHero Says:

Fair enough, I guess. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking to hope the Phils might get treated as a legitimate contender and not the team that just stumbled it’s way into contention and got lucky. Maybe if we had more celebrity fans we could get some respect. Somebody call Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bill Cosby, Tina Fey, Seth Green, M. Night Shtamalan, Pink, Ali Larter, Justice Alito, and Joe Biden and tell them to get their asses to the Diamond Club this year.

  40. maxL Says:

David Boreanaz, too. He went to Malvern Prep, that’s close enough.

  41. Watrick Says:

Or, Hall and Oates, Dean Clean & Rodney Anonymous (and the rest of the band-they should sing God Bless America. Oh man, that would be awesome. … ::dreaming::…), Todd Rungren, how about Cherie Oteri? Get Gamble and Huff to get MFSB out there for the National Anthem. Just please God, no more Pattie Labelle.

  42. will.H Says:

or even more on the ironic side: Kobe

  43. me Says:

    @ fayleez

    Don’t complain about Birdland shirts.

Yours is the worst comment on this thread.

  44. Steve-O Says:

This is brilliant! I ccouldn’t stop watching it so I had to share it.

    http://i.tsn.com/i/photos/20091015/126729.gif

  45. Ozzie Virgil's Beard Says:

@Steve-O: That is priceless. I love it.

  46. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

    @ Lynnie/Phylan/Tug –

Did you happen to catch the other night, I’m pretty sure is was NLDS game 4, when one of the TBS announcers referred to Feliz on second as someone with “pretty good speed,” or something like that?

I almost choked on my burrito when I heard that one.

Also, three cheers for Bruntlett. I’m pulling for him to be the player with the most stuff in the Hall of Fame and the most notable moments coupled with the least amount of credibility. He’s got two WS game winning runs scored, including the clincher, and the solo TP. I wait in eager anticipation of what’s next.

Say what you will about ole’ bearded face, I say he’s a good luck charm, and that’s why Cholly’s bringin’ him along…

  47. MoyerIsMyHero Says:

@Watrick – NO to Cheri Oteri. I’m doing my best to forget she exists, let alone is from Philly. Besides, we need to focus on “celebrities” that will be nationally recognizable and are still relevant (I threw DJ Jazzy Jeff in as a joke). The last thing we need is jokes about our B-List celebrity fans – no split screens of Hall & Oates vs. Kate Hudson and Jay-Z or what have you.

  48. maria Says:

Kate Hudson is joke all unto herself. Is Will Smith still a Philly fan? Last I checked, he said he liked the Lakers. I think he’s gone over to the dark side.

  49. Lynniemac Says:

I totally vote for the Hooters to do “God Bless America.”

@Heathcliff: Fortunately, I was spared that. I mute the tv and live with radio delay it’s so much better.

Did anyone else get the Fans at Bat survey about TBS’ coverage? Besides the normal “rate the following from 1-5″, they included an open-ended comment section about the opinion of the announcers. They may regret that now.

  50. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Lynnie – I didn’t see that survey but would love to rail into it.

I think I’m going to try the t.v./radio delay. I saw you said recently that you get used to it. I love Franzke & LA so much, and I’d rather chew on razors than listen to the god-awful TBS chumps again.

  51. James Fayleez Says:

    @me

Pay attention. I complained about one shirt.

The best shirt on there is the “Cadiallac Time” shirt.
There, now you have no arguement.

  52. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

The best shirts yet to be made = Chasing Henderson, Go to the mountain, son!, and Get me to the plate, boys

I wish Panamania had an ice cream cone snuck in there.

  53. me Says:

just sayin its dickish to come on here and speak ill. dont like it. dont buy it. shut up.

  54. James Fayleez Says:

It’s my only beef so far. The rest of my comments have been positive and entertaining.

Stop wasting time telling me what to do and contribute.

  55. Colin_K Says:

I hope nobody famous shows up to the games in Philly…I think it’s a joke every time I see a “star” behind home plate…cause for the next 3 hours they’ll talk about how a shitty movie like Anger Management was an underrated flick, just because Jack is at the game.

  56. MoyerIsMyHero Says:

I was being sarcastic about the celebrity thing – just saying that’s why NY and LA get all the attention.

@ Heathcliff – All great shirt ideas. Also, why don’t we have an Eyre Force One shirt yet?
