Joe Blanton Shows Pete Happy How It’s Done

Joe Blanton was denied another well-deserved win last night when Feliz failed to pull in Yunel Escobar’s sharply hit grounder in the bottom of the fourth. Instead of the inning ending when Blanton retired LaRoche on strikes in the ensuing at-bat, he gave up a 2-out Ryan Church double to deep left, allowing Escobar to score and tie the game.

The Phils won, but Blanton got another hard-fought no-decision this season as he continues to keep the opposition in check with little to show for it in his personal ‘W’ column.

This is all just meant to be a long-winded introduction to my favorite Blanton highlight of last night’s victory over the Braves. As much as Victorino’s Mays-like plays in deep center, as much as Utley’s and Howard’s timely bombs, this barehanded grab of a quick hit back to the mound helped keep the Phillies on the good side of a very close victory:

    I figured that was Jimmy he was talking to. I would think Jimmy would be more likely to chat it up with someone on the field.
