What happened?
The Yankees defeated the Phillies to win the World Series, 4-2.
Who did what?
Pedro Martinez (L, 0-2) allowed four runs on three hits in four innings. He walked two and struck out five.
Ryan Howard went 1 for 4 with a homer (1) and two RBIs.
Carlos Ruiz went 2 for 2 with a triple (1) and a run.
Andy Pettitte (W, ) allowed three runs on four hits in five and two-thirds. He walked five and struck out three.
Derek Jeter went 3 for 5 with a double (3) and two runs.
Mark Teixiera went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Hideki Matsui went 3 for 4 with a double (1), a homer (3) and six RBIs.
What does this mean?
Well, that’s it, Phillies fans.
Andy Pettitte bested Pedro Martinez and the Phillies as the New York Yankees took game six of the World Series to claim their 27th title in history.
Both pitchers exchanged scoreless innings in the first, but that’s where Pedro’s success would end. He walked Alex Rodriguez on four pitches to begin the second, and then allowed a two-run homer to Hideki Matsui after a lengthy at-bat.
The Phillies plated one in the third, after Carlos Ruiz tripled and was then knocked in by Jimmy Rollins, but the Yankees would add two more in the bottom half of the inning, when Matsui roped a two-out, bases loaded single to center to increase the lead to three runs.
The Yankees would add three more in the bottom of the fifth, while the Phillies cut into it in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer from Howard to cut the lead to 7-3.
It would be all the offense that the Phillies could muster, however, as the Yankees bullpen would toss four plus innings of scoreless relief, culminating in an inning and two-thirds from Mariano Rivera.
And just like that, the season is over.
At first, this recap felt like an obituary. Here lies the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies, it started out with. That theme continued for about 50 or so words, until I realized something: It’s wrong.
It’s wrong, and I’ll tell you why: 2009 wasn’t the death of something. These Phillies aren’t getting taken apart from a fire sale spurred on by cheap management. There are no pending free agents that anchor the team, and the owner doesn’t have a beef with the skipper.
For the most part, this team is going to be back in 2010.
So that’s where we are. A team that lost the World Series to continue an improbable, glorious run that dates back to April of 2008. A team that fought through adversity and tragedy and triumph and sorrow and glee and more. A team that won’t go away quietly. A team that won’t die.
So here they are; their 2009 hopes drowned in champagne stains and confetti clouds.
But that run doesn’t stop on a chilly November night in the Bronx.
It’s where it starts.
A new season starts now. Today. On a chilly night in November, after losing the last game of the season, is where it all begins.
What’s next for our 2008 National League Champions?
The 2010 season.
I want to use this space to thank each and everyone for reading these recaps in 2009. It was a helluva season to cut my teeth with as a member of the Fightins Dot Com, and the readers made it that much better. You made me feel welcome here, and for that I thank you all.

Thanks for a great site.
Good job Phils, can’t believe the season is over, and can’t wait till spring training when we start up again.
I’ll always love the Phightins. I’ll still take this team over the Yankees any day. This will only make us stronger. Go Phightins. I’ll take this shit like a man.
i vote that hamels gets traded. those remarks…regardless of what context shouldnt be uttered by anyone in the position of the phillies. rollins was quoted as saying if youre not with me, i dont want you on the team (paraphrased). hamels was obviously not with the team. i personally wouldnt mind seeing him gone. i love hime to death, but that was a statement (and its timing) worse than anything TO ever said in philly.
To live and die with the Phightins.
I am proud of the Phils.
Flat bats tonight, but it was a fun ride this season.
oops. i forgot. congrats to the fightins…that was an amazing season.
@Reese -
Can’t trade him now. At least not if you want to get anything of value for him.
Like most Phillies fans, right now, I feel like I can’t breathe….
The post is starting to put things in perspective for me.
Besides Cliff Lee, it seems like all of our pitchers weren’t in the right mental state of mind…just a lot of pressure on them.
I’ve always said odd years are bad omens, and even years are good omens.
Let’s hope I’m right.
See you in Spring Training boys!
@Bridget
Turn on Comcast. Dutch will get you through it. He’s rocking the Utley do.
The Yankees don’t deserve this, but there’s nothing you can do about it. The Phils live on.
See ya in the Spring. <3
LOL Thanks James.
first off, great season – phillies, thefightins.com and fans.
while this feels like someone just ripped out my heart, the chase utley expletive of the world series parade will continue to be my ringtone, regardless of who just won the series. i still love this team.
yeh, i know we cant. hopefully he will have a decent 1st half next season and we can dump him, theres no room for that kinda crap on this team. his statement was destructive to this team. i have no doubts about it. im uber proud of what brett myers said after game 5. i even have a cole hamels MVP shirt from last year, but dont want anything to do w/ him anymore.
I’ll never stop lovin the Phils. We’re the classiest team with fans who actually know, love, and understand the game of baseball. Fuck the frontrunners, fuck the bandwagoners, and drink some beer. It was a good ride, and can’t wait for next season.
Phillies phan now, Phillies phan forever!
I’m disappointed but my hats off to the Phillies and another great year. It’s not easy getting to the World Series and they did it two years in a row..so congrats. I only wish they could have showed their true selves as I think the outcome would have been different. See ya in 2010…lets make it three in a row.
anyone more impressed w/ what the devil rays did last year, than what the yankees did this year? hell i think im more impressed w/ what the twins did than the yankees.
Boys, it’s been one hell of a season. You guys inspired me to get my own blog going, but tonight, I can’t put myself to write anything, because I know it’s the end. Thanks for one hell of a ride this year. I love this team, and always will.
I have to hope that Ryan Howard thinks about those 13 K’s for the whole off-season and comes back pissed off in 2010.
All I can think of is the quote of Pete Incavillia’s first thought when Joe Carter hit that home run, “What am I going to do tomorrow, now?”
What a roller coaster season though, right? And maybe our home record before the All-Star break won’t be like 13-22!!! LOL…
As a pitcher, I get very mental when I don’t pitch well, etc, and I might get upset (and even cry) but I would never say the things Cole Hamels said….I would get mad at myself because I was not helping the team. I would never wish for the season to be over.
Seriously, our pitchers need to find some frame of mind.
We’ll get there again next year…we still have our core.
And before we know it, Spring Training will be here!!!
disappointed? sure. still a proud phillies fan? ALWAYS. Great g-damn season!
Thanks Fightins.com for a great site that makes any baseball day way better. You guys rock. The next piece of scrapple I cook then happily chomp into is dedicated to you guys and all who post here…
I agree in a sense Reese. I guess I agree because Yankee fans are annoying and…um did I say annoying??? LOL. I just can’t stand the Yankees, and I want them to go down. I’ll cheer for any other team than the Yankees.
The Phils put up a good phight. What a terrific season. I am crying because I love the Phillies.
It’s been a personal honor to watch the best Phillies team in franchise history the past three plus years. We’ll be back next year, and many years after that. What we all had in ’08 will never be forgotten. Right now what we say to the Phillies, the ONLY thing we say to the Phillies, is THANK YOU.
Hey! the second best in baseball?..I’ll take that
If I didn’t have to be at school to teach in a couple hours, I would definitely think about heading down to 30th street to cheer on the Phillies coming home. Hell, maybe I should to get a jump on traffic with this strike…
Dude I just teared up too. That recap was exquisite, dash, simply exquisite. I take off my cap to you, sir.
I didn’t feel devastated when the final out was made, and I think you hit the nail on the head as to why. Next season’s probably gonna be just as good. Maybe better, with Clifton Phifer here the whole year round and such.
I can’t wait. WFC’10, anyone?
I love the Phils. We will be back. High hopes now, high hopes always.
Go Fightins.
Really? Talking about wanting to trade Cole? Cole has proven that he often doesn’t say the right thing, but he has NEVER showed that same mentality when pitching during the game. How many times have you seen him pissed off that Charlie wants to take him out? A LOT! How many times have you seen him happy to be done for the night? NEVER!
Please shut the fuck up about wanting to trade Cole. Keep spoon feeding you all the BS that the media gives you and actually watch the fucking games.
That being said, congrats to the Yankees (that hurt) and congrats to the Phillies for a great year. They came out with a fire under their ass after winning the World Series so I hope that they come out with an inferno under their asses after this offseason.
27*
Phillies fans have many seasons of good fall baseball to look forward to!
watching Charlie on PostGame, “We will be back. We work on trying to play it right. When you play in the World Series, someone’s going home, and I’m not sure I like that. I’m proud of them.”
tell me that doesn’t even make you love the Phils more?
I know I’ll get blasted by any troll spending their celebration on here (honestly I wouldn’t be surprised), but what the fuck do I care?
I’m most proud of the Phils for getting as far as they did without the help of any steroid-using, centaur-wannabe freaks. We did it right, stumbled a bit along the way, came in second, and still ended up a better team than 1st Place.
Phuckin A.
What a great season, i will for ever remember it, because i travelled all the way to Philly just to watch them in person for the first time in my life, great last two season and heck next year we will be there in the WS… Hamels will get better, Lidge will get better, this team is not over yet…. thx Phillies for these 2 last season…. and can’t wait for 2010…….. THX again!!!!! Phillies #1
I’ll always love the Phils….I love baseball, but I’ll always love the Phils first.
Let’s do it for HK next year…it will be odd starting the season without him.
First off, who would’ve thought the Phillies would be in back to back world series. I feel great about this team’s last 2 years. This team earned their success by hardwork and gelling as a team. Loved every minute of it, even the shitty parts. Thats what makes me proud to be a Phillies fan. Staying through the ups and downs. Positives aside… Man this hurts. My stomach is sick and my heart hurts. This feels surreal. Its a shame one of the few times their offense didn’t bring the A game was their last game. But look at the season overall and how can you not love being a Phillies fan.
Great job 09 Phillies and thank you guys for this site, which make the season and off the field stuff so much more enjoyable. Now i’m going to have to be productive until the spring…
The Yankees are a fucking good baseball team, I think there is no shame in losing to them at all. The Phillies are still in a fine position going into 2010, the fact that the Phillies got to the World Series with a fragile closer and shittacular Cole Hamels only emphasizes how good the TEAM is.
Hey, I’ve been lurking here all season. Great site, love the merchandise.
I love the Phils always have, always will. No team will ever match the heart of this one.
Quote from Vanilla Sky: “The sweet is never as sweet without the sour.” Or some shit.
Drink some beers – let’s meet our heroes at the train station! Thanks Boys!
it hurts, but at the same time you can’t help but thank the team for a great two years. for all the crap we put up with and to win it all last year… that was the best time of my life. this is a great bunch of guys and i look forward to the same thing next year.
see ya in april, boys.
theres a difference in saying the right things……and saying he wished the season was over IN THE MIDST OF THE WORLD SERIES! that shows zero heart, zero balls, and zero brains. every pitcher argues to stay in the game so that argument is moot. and this isnt media spoon feeding. that kind of statement is poison to a team. they are going to think about that statement the entire offseason. they are going to think about what he said every time he’s on the mound now. everyone on that team is there to win. point blank. why would anyone want to play w/ a guy who could care less about winning the title? lets see what jimmy says in the offseason, bc it will come up.
Congrats to the Yankees/Yankee fans on a good series. Phillies, thanks for another awesome ride. Looking forward to 2010 with some great prospects on the way and a solid core still in place.
Don’t pick up Pedro’s option though.
Also trading Cole Hamels would probably be one of if not the worst front office move in recent history. I’m really glad that the Phillies aren’t run by reactionary fans.
The Yankees are good..but we could have/should have beaten them. There’s always next year. GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, seriously, what to do now???
I mean, the MLB network will be all over the Yankees…ugh. I don’t know if I can stomach it! LOL.
I’m anxious to see what the 2010 season has to bring.
Despite the loss, a dynasty is still in the works. The players love to play the game, play for the city, and they love the fans. They are a great team, and I am fortunate enough to experience all of this.
@Phylan
That’s funny because I’m feeling all warm for our Phils and still (to quote Charlie) at the same time I’m saying, “Bounce Pedro, Lidge and Cole.”
I would be so much less upset by this if it were any other team. Unfortunately now I have to go listen to a bunch of idiotic morons prattle on about how NY is the best and always will be and they’ve got the best team ever and then proceed to not give a damn about it until they hear the yanks are winning again…
That said, there is nothing that will keep me from loving this team and the heart they bring to the game
Great job all season Dash!
wont miss another game next year… theres a reason why my heart is red… go phils!
Thanks for always taking the time to write up these in depth recaps. Thanks to thefightins.com for another great year
Great seasons guys. Lets get back to the WS next year too!
Although Brad Lidge had a not so good year, you NEVER caught him saying the things Cole did. I guess that’s just the difference in maturity levels for you.
I still respect Brad Lidge though. He handled this year with dignity and class…these are qualities most of the Yankees don’t have.
Great recap Dash, not only this one but all season. Read and enjoyed every one of them.
Thanks for a great year. I don’t know what I would do without this website.
i love the phillies. what theyve done is legendary. i watched every pitch this postseason (and a ton in the regular season…TX hates the phillies…even when i went to all 4 phi @ hou games, lol). i might be reactionary here, but that statement is a huge cause for concern. andy pettite didnt win with skill tonight…he won w/ heart and brains. cole has neither. i dont want that on the team. esp as my supposed #1 starting pitcher.
Thanks a lot for all the work that goes into this site, all of you writers rock.
Thank you Fightings.com for being an awesome blog. Thanks to the other readers on here who give me laughs and deep thoughts to ponder at work. Thank you Phills for another exciting year. And thank you baseball, for being the best sport in the world. See yous in spring training.
lidge is a great player and person. ill take him and his fuckups this year over cole and his remarks any day of the week.
btw, the beat ny shirt i just bought is kinda useless now.
Don’t Forget…The Mets still suck!
Meh, I’m not all that angry about this. The mere fact that we won two pennants in a row is certainly good enough for me.
I’m just glad that we don’t have any “purple-lipped roid freaks” on this team.
Thanks for a great year, Dash.
I’m raising this one to the Fightin’ Phils.
@Wrecked Em
You can still use that shirt at Mets games. Most people won’t even be able to tell the difference.
Reese, if you think that what Cole said after game 3 is going to affect this team in the offseason, you’re nuts. This team only cares about how players act when they are on the field and Cole has always shown that he wants to compete, regardless of how well he’s pitching.
Bridget I asked that same thing. What the hell do I do until Spring now? And dash, another great recap. Although it made me even more emotional about this.
And i’m still singing high hopes.
PD—LOVE the idea!
Pat M—You make a valid point.
No A-Roid’s on this team…I can’t stand him either…LOL.
Our reign comes to an end after 372 days.
Great season boys! We’ll be back! World Series Champions of 2010!
I did enjoy Happ striking out Purple Lipped Roid Freak with the bases jammed.
the better team didnt win but unfortunately its only a best of 7. at least the phils play the game honest, i’ll take losing over cheating every day.
congrats to the 2009 world champs*
The mere fact that A-Rod’s getting a ring is enough to make me puke. This is all just a shame. We have a lot to be proud of in regards to our Phightins. This shit’s so hard to stomach right now.
eagles turn?
I am going to miss the Phils and The Fightins recaps for the next few months. Great season and can’t wait for next year.
Valiant effort by our Fightins. For me, to see them flounder for most of my youth makes it so much better as a fan to see them play as well as they do for the past three seasons. Cool as shit to see them win back to back NL titles! Great job, boys, and I can’t wait for 2010!! And props to thefightins.com for the insight.
That said, where are all the jerkoff Yankees trolls gloating? I would’ve thought for sure that would be post number one…
@John
Thanks for the laugh.
Thanks for a great season.
im sure the yankee jerkoffs are in the streets of nyc…
hahahahhahaa YOU HAD HIGH HOPES….. HIGH HOPES
@Watrick…..
I totally thought of Incy’s comment right away, although I remember Dutch saying it on the High Hopes DVD too.
I guess I will just have to focus on school now. The rest of the Philly sports universe just doesn’t do it for me.
I WANT TO BE A PART OF IT……..NEW YORK………NEW YORK HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA PHUCK ALL YOU PHAGS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I just want to start off by saying congratulations to the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies. This is one of the greatest Phillies teams ever, and just like you guys have said, it doesn’t end here, it’s just starting. This has been a great season, and I’ll never forget all the great memories this team has given me. I’m looking forward to next year. That said, this loss just rips my heart out. We were so close, and I always had a feeling that the offense was so close to breaking out and coming back to win. But I’d much rather earn a World Series loss than buy a World Series win. It almost seems like this loss makes me prouder of this team than I was last year when they won. It’s easy to just be a frontrunner and rejoice in the team’s success, but what makes Phillies fans so great is that they stick with their team through the ups and the downs. I love you guys, and I can’t wait till Spring Training 2010. Go Phils!
Fuck the Yankees.
Fuck Jay-Z.
Fuck NYC.
Fuck Septa.
Fuck the George Lopez show.
Fuck avocados.
Fuck black tacos.
Go Phils.
Oh and btw hahaha, if you are looking for a way to commemorate your winning pitcher from tonight you can just switch the a’s out with g’s.
HGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGH
Don’t forget about McCarver, Brian.
and Joe Buck
hahahahhahahahahahahhahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhhahahaha SCUMBAG PHAGS YOU ARE ALL PHUCKIN PUSSYS THIS IS SO SATISFYING
and those TBS announcers who, dare I say it, make Buck and McCarver almost bearable.
Some tough losses make this a hard pill to swallow. But we’ll be back again next year. I really feel that. And hopefully it will be to really BEAT NY. Amazing season and awesome job to the boys in red.
@BigMiles
HGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGH. Funny shit.
“THIS IS SO SATISFYING”
I think #87 is referring to beating it to A-Fraud’s centaur picture
LOL what is with this fanbase? Defending Lidge and abandoning Cole? Lidge, an aging reliever coming off a great season, didn’t do shit with class, during his incredibly terrible 2009 (historically terrible, in fact), after every piece of shit outing he had, after every game he cost this team, he would go tell the press “I feel great! My stuff is as good as it’s ever been!” despite the fact that his knee was fucked up, and his stuff was demonstrably not as good. And then it was “Oh my knee is feeling better right now, that was the problem all along!” and still he shits the bed. He took advantage of all of Charlie’s misplaced confidence knowing his shit was busted, and shrugged it off every time with “I feel great!” If you haven’t forgotten the regular season completely, you know this.
Meanwhile Cole, a 25 year old pitcher with elite stuff under team control for single digits for 3 years, has some of the worst luck a pitcher can have, STILL manages to post a league average season, makes one stupid comment in the postseason, and you want to trade him? That you would even think to try and compare him to Lidge is laughable, seriously hysterical; that you would want to TRADE COLE HAMELS is fucking mind blowing. This fanbase has such absurd priorities.
soda at yankee stadium-$8
hotdog at yankee stadium$15
world series tickets to see the yankees win $10,000
watching all the phillies cry like lil bitches ………. PRICELESS
Good to see everyone stay so positive. This team should be the favorite to win the NL again next season… but, of course, the media will project the Fightins to finish 3rd in the East.
@ hahahahhahahahahaha
Have fun jerking off to A-Rod’s centaur. It’s easy to troll when your team wins. You’re a disgrace and a waste of time. Go Phils and I can’t wait till the day I move to Philadelphia. Fuck NY.
No need to get into arguments about it now Phylan but for what its worth I totally agree
Wow, I didn’t know Phils fans could be so nostalgic. Great season guys. These guys need a BREAK. And I’m talking like a no playoff year break. That wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
@Big Miles #84 love it.
Go Phils.
hahaha. so your team wins a world series and you come on the phils blog? you must be the most popular fag in the homosexual capitol of the world
nah theyre probably not in the streets of nyc they apparently have more “class” than that… haha and im sure traffic is all effed up too so theres no room for em, which is just as well cuz i dont wanna see it anyway. great season for the boys, and just remember the Yankees may have money, but they never were able to buy a Harry Kalas, and that my friends is something real to be proud of. LETS GO PHILLIES! and until next season, something to keep the Fightins spirit alive:
This is to the Philadelphia fan.
To laud your passion as best I can.
Your loyalty is unsurpassed.
Be the Fightins in first or last.
We come to the park each day,
looking forward to another fray.
Because we know you’ll be there,
we know you really care.
You give the opposing pitcher fits
because as one loyalist shouts, everybody hits.
To be sure in Philly, there might be some boos.
Because you passionate fans, like the manager, hate to lose.
Your reaction to the action on the field that you impart,
spurs us broadcasters to call the game with enthusiasm and heart.
We feel your passion through and through.
Philadelphia fans, I love you.
@59 use it for mets games and next years world series
It was a great year, no question about it. In the past 3 years, the Phils have given us 3 division titles, 2 pennants, and 1 World Series title. They do the city proud.
I kind of hope that the Yankees, despite being really, really old, have enough gas left to get back to the Series to face the Phils again. Revenge would be very, very sweet.
So when do pitchers and catchers report? While the Eagles are a somewhat pleasant diversion, and I can get pretty excited about the Flyers, there’s nothing quite like Phillies baseball.
Hey gang, it’s been a fucking ball.
Here’s to Gonzo and OutlawPete for the liveblogs. They were porn-gif tastic. DP for life.
And here’s to the folks at The Fightins for an excellent job on the year. 2010 sounds good to me.
i will jerk off t it and hedeki too o man im gunna get my jollies off tonight
Phylan – Yeah, the way Lidge shrugged his struggles off like nothing was wrong when there was clearly a problem irked me, too. But he was never just like “screw it, I’ll give up and wait ’til next year”. He always looked like he gave a crap. Cole, on the other hand, would give up a run or there would be a bad call and he would pretty much throw a hissy fit on the mound. Then he made those comments, and sure, he probably wishes he wouldn’t have said them, and I doubt he really meant them, but they kind of just showed where his head was – he was worried about HIS season, not the team’s.
high hopes…..high hopes hahahahahahahaha you and your team are all a joke
Ryan, you are so right. Let’s never forget that, despite his tremendous series and his 2009 WS ring, Alex Rodriguez has two pictures of HIMSELF AS A CENTAUR in his home.
as much as i hate yankees fans, at least they’e baseball fans
I’M PAINTING SWISHER’S CENTAUR AS I SPEAK WITH MY OWN CUM. I USE MY FLESHJACK WHEN I WATCH YANKEES GAMES. I’M A TROLL, GOBLIN, HOBBIT, WHATEVER THE FUCK U WANT TO CALL ME. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT I DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT ANYTHING. I’M A FUCKING JOKE AND YOU CAN ALL LAUGH AT ME BECAUSE I DESERVE IT. FUCK ME.
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Amazing what $1,000,000,000 can get you these days – in this economy.
yea …..high hopes you’ve got high hopes
It’s been a long road, it’s been a tough road. This season was a great season despite some tough points, namely the loss of Harry, and the loss of the World Series. I’m sorry for Harry, I really wanted this one for him and I really thought we could do it. Next season will be great, I can already tell. You better believe we’ll be back (and largely intact) in 2010. And with High Hopes…
@106 – Yankees fans are NOT baseball fans…they are just fans of their own team.
hahahahhahahahahaha go celebrate u queer….but if u wanna talk shit in real life come to hoboken and ill fuck your day up
seriously haha, why aren’t you out with your friends?
I’m glad the Phillies didn’t have to shell out $425,000,000 over the next 21 years to win a World Series.
Ryan, I really just think he was upset because he wasn’t performing well, AND he was letting the team down. Of course Cole cares about the team. People are reading way too much into his body language and off the cuff comments to the press when there is no reason to assume he didn’t want to help the team win. People saw all the sponsorships he did and were thrown by it, since it’s been a long time since the Phillies were successful enough to shine any large part of the public spotlight on a Phillies player. They took that and assumed his head wasn’t in the game, when there was no reason to do so, and then they rolled that into him being frustrated. Really, the emotion he showed out there, with the exception of being pissed about Utley botching the double play, was not anything more than most pitchers exude when they’re not doing well.
But fans had already built up this stereotype of Cole Hamels that was 10% fact and 90% legend. And now they want to run him out of town, and it’s shameful. I’m really embarrassed to be associated with people who think that.
What we did last year with passion, teamwork, and home-grown talent, New York to do it this year needed Steinbrenner’s wallet, almost DOUBLE our payroll, and 6 games. If that doesn’t make you proud to be a Phillies fan now more than ever, then maybe you should go root for the Mets. World Fuckin’ Champions – 2008.
Big ups to thefightins.com
I found out about your site late last year so this was the first season where I was with you from the beginning, and I seem to be with the majority here when I say it has been an amazing season. A roller coaster ride of emotion; joy and pain that can only be conjured from the world of sports. I’m sure I speak for many of the readers when I say that I visited your site at least twice a day and spent a good portion of my hard earned money on the products from Birdland.
I always knew that philadelphia fans had a connection unlike most cities. You can see it in the streets, bars, games, and all around the city. But your site is one of the places where I truly FEEL the connection. When the Phils were bumming it up out west this season I was genuinely angry and needed to vent and hear what others had to say or I would’ve exploded. When we won ten in a row, finishing it off with Werth’s walk-off against the cubs, I was so excited I wanted to scale buildings and shout from the rooftops. Being able to have a community to go to where you can express the same feelings and concerns as others and share the ups and downs of a season is what gives a fan base its identity. As fans we don’t have much control over what happens in these games…but we live and die by them. You guys at thefightins.com really give us a great place to do just that. In my mind, your site has been cemented into this outstanding 2009 season, and I’ll miss it as much as I do the Phils themselves. It is going to be a long winter but I am eagerly counting down the days until the opening day post. We bleed red for the Phillies.
That loss sucked…we all know this. I love the fight we put up. It didn’t happen this year but we’ll get’em next time. We’ll see those mercenaries again next year. Remember Rocky 2? We come back and beat the champ.
I love HK, Utley, Howard, Rauuuuuuul, Chooooch, Werth and Lee! Let’s go Phillies!
GREART WORK YOU SHITHEADS. YOUR BLOG IS THE WORST AND NOW YOUR FLUKE OF A CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE DEFENSE OF THAT CHAMPIONSHIP–A RESOUNDING FAILURE–IT’S ALL OVER! YOU WILL RESCIND BACK INTO THE DEPTHS OF BASEBALL AND RETURN TO YOUR LOSING WAYS. YOUR TEAM IS THE LOSINGEST IN ALL OF SPORTS. FUCKHEADS. ENJOY!
man i hope the phils sign some douchy free agent so we can win the world series next year…..jk
Can’t wait to beat the Pirates (Wild Card), Dodgers (again), and Red Sox in next years playoffs. World Series MVP: PHIFER!
Face it Philadelphia, you will never be considered World Champions until you go through the Yankees. But congratulations on beating Tampa Bay in 2008.
m: Pirates? Agree with the rest… this was the Yankees shot, that team is getting up there in years, and with the title they may not be so greedy on the FA market.
Dash, thank you for a great recap – you really helped to put things in a better perspective. Honestly, losing this game didn’t hurt as much as Game 4. I think because they were behind by so much so early, there was time to mentally prepare that they might not pull out another come from behind win (wow, that sounds really dirty). Anyway, love every part of this team, see you in Clearwater.
Well you truly live and die with the Phillies. I would like to thank you guys for a great site and thank the commentators for the fun times in the live blogs. We’re still 2008 World Champions, and back to back NL Champions. I’ll always believe we were the better team this series, but we didn’t show up. I’ll see you guys around.
@HAHAHA
Learn how to spell shithead.
They may be world champions but we’re WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!
Thanks to every Phillies fan who knows how great a season this was. This site helps me when I don’t have a real fan around me to tell remind me what a great team I root for.
Thanks so much, thefightins.com.
Thank you.
Do we have live blogs for sixers games now?….. Man this really sucks.
nobody on the road, nobody on the beach
I can’t help but feel really sorry for the Yankees fans who are so pathetic that they have no one to celebrate with. I don’t know about you, but when the Phils clinched (yeah, against the Rays – because the Yankees weren’t good enough to get past them, or the Sox), I sure as hell wasn’t hanging out online hours after it was over.
Thanks to The Fightins for keeping it entertaining, and the 2009 Phils for another great season. We saw how this team responded to defeat two years ago – they’ll be fired up for 2010.
I feel like some one died… oh well. I have faith in a great team next season. Keep it up Charlie and Ruben.
I can guarantee I’ll be out with my camera in 2010, so watch your backs.
You know who you are!
Well it was a great season and its unfortunate that our guys had to lose out to a bunch of classless, overpaid, roid freaks but you know. I didn’t even watch the celebration. Once Victorino hit the grounder I flipped it off. Still love the team though, and I’m wearing my Harry Kalas shirt at school today.
Chalk up another meaningless title for the Yankees.
The whole country mourns.
It was a great year for the Phils, despite the setbacks we got there again. Thanks to all of TheFightins staff for making me laugh when the Phils were drudging along and thanks to community here for giving me someone intelligent in the ways of baseball to argue with. Now off to 2010!
AJ Burnett flipping his hand up for every strikeout
Melky Cabrera faking a throw to center field fans on caught 3rd out
Arod…. we all know about him
Posada thinking every pitch other than anything thrown by his Yankee pitchers is a strike and constantly bitches about it.
Victory dances before the World Series is over.
Enjoy your classy 2009 champs.
Fuck the Yankees. Fuck the Mets. Fuck the Dodgers. Let’s get em next year
*is not a strike
Phils were just too worn out this series. Long physical & mental grind started to hit them hard in the WS. I would trade Hamels for Halladay (i know 1 yr left on contract) & get in dat ass next yr & make it back to the WS
Reading these comments has really helped stomach this loss and it just shows that the Phils have the greatest fans in the world. We get it. We love this team WIN or LOSE. Frontrunners need not apply. I’m so proud of this freakin team. I love them so much it hurts.
This is where things get really awesome. This is the part in the movie where, after being defeated, the Phils, determined to regain their rightful position as World Fucking Champions travel to the remote Shaolin temple where they will learn the undefeatable 36th chamber baseball techniques from some wise old master (I’m picturing Uncle Charlie w/ a fu man chu beard). Then next season they will use their newly acquired skills to save baseball from the likes of the evil soulless Yankees and the heartless Mets!
You know damn well that each and every one of you wanted to play the Yankees this year. Well, you got your wish and look what happened.
2008 WFC = World Fuckin Champions
2009 WFC = We Fuckin Choked
Congrats on beating Tampa Bay on 2008.
Great year to the phils & thefightins.com site. By far the best phils blog
That’s it for this year. Thank you Fightins.com for your recaps and awesome articles and clips. I only discovered you this season and it reallly made each game fun win or lose to come in the next morning and read your commentary. Keep up the great work and let’s hope the Phils come back with another starter, some legitmate right handed pop off the bench and a deeper bullpen. Til next year thanks….
I was proud that the Phils gritted out a Game 5 win, even when they weren’t at their best, to get the Series back to NYC and make the Yankees earn it. I love this team. They represent everything that’s right about baseball and they’ll be back next year… It’ll be fun to watch them. Keep up the good work on the site.
Dudes who run this site have the best f*cking humor you would love to have a cold one with. Glad I found this blog. also hahahahah shouldn’t you be hungover & not posting on here
So glad I discovered this blog this spring. Thank you, Fightins. You’re funny and smart and have made the ride so much fun.
@Matsui
At least we made the playoffs before spending billions last year.
It’s comical to me that a team wins the world series, and fans spend the immediate moments after on team message boards cursing out their opponent’s fans. These are some of the most exciting moments of a persons life, so what do they do…curse at strangers on a website. Cool.
Check out our perspective on the 2009 season, I think it’s worth a read.
This has been a great ride, looking forward to next year already. Clearwater, DC opening day, Chi town Cubs weekend in July, can’t wait. Go Phils, thanks for the memories, still champs in my book. Got nothing but love for you and pride. GO PHILS!!
WFC = WE FUCKIN’ CHOKED
WFC = WE FUCKIN’ CHOKED
WFC = WE FUCKIN CHOKED
WFC = WE FUCKIN CHOKED
2009 World Payroll Champions
how does losing a series you never had a lead in constitute choking?
the only good thing to come out of this world series is yankees fans were exposed as frauds to the world with their empty seats and complete lack of baseball knowledge
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1-zBIIvl5g
http://www.4daysrest.com/2009/11/05/whores-and-the-comments-section/
I think this says it all.
We laughed, we cried, we made fun of 3 major US sporting markets… all in all a damn fine run. Thanks to the Phillies and to thefightins.com for a successful season.
Now on to 2010!
Money didn’t beat the Phillies;
2009 Matsui: $13.0 Million
2009 Pettitte: $5.5 Million
Talent did.
Guys, if a Yankees fan tries to talk to you during the next week…..just take a mound visit….they took at least 50.
BALLGAME OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
GAME 6 OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WORLD SERIES OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!!!!! THE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!!!
You didn’t play Tampa this season. You played the varsity this season. And for those bitching about the Yankees payroll, there is no salary cap in baseball. You can spend as much as you like. Nothing stopping the Phillies from doing the same thing.
In the words of Michael Kay: SEEEEEE YAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tear jerker reading erye’s comments
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20091105_Eyre__Myers_wondering_if_they_will_return_to_Phillies.html?posted=y&viewAll=y#comments
I felt bad but after watching the Yankees celebrate I realized even that seemed kind of fake. I guess that’s what happens when you are just a bunch of talented players bought and put together by the front office and not really a team. We have a pretty bright future and I’m looking forward to it.
Fuck it dude, let’s go bowling… onwards in 2010 guys!
So…what am I supposed to do now?
Great season Phils. A lot to be proud of. Just didn’t have enough at the end. I couldn’t even watch the last few innings.
tremendous job with the site guys, I can’t wait for next year.
I can’t wait till spring training down in Clearwater
Maybe Jimmy Rollins should concentrate more on hitting and less on making predictions.
Maybe Shane Victorino should wipe that face off of his head.
Maybe Ryan Howard should show up to the World Series before Game 6.
Maybe Cole Hamels should give a shit about pitching instead of acting.
Maybe Brad Lidge should realize who he really is and admit 2008 will never happen again.
Maybe Uncle Cholly should realize that you need to take chances in the World Series.
Maybe in 2010.
What is the meaning of calling yourself “Harry Kalas Murder Conspiracy Theory”???
Real fans don’t gloat on others message boards.
That said, I have a few immediate post season thoughts:
1. Pass on Feliz. Adrian Beltre is a free agent and chances are Garrett Atkins will be waived in lieu of being paid arbitration dollars. Look at one of them as an equal on defense, but way more upside at the plate.
2. Sign Myers to an incentive laden deal on the cheap. Given the high price of the other options out there, throwing a few dollars at Myers and seeing if they stick to the wall is a very reasonable idea. He can work as either a starter or reliever.
3. Dump Cairo, Bruntlett, Dobbs, and Stairs and start over. We need a potential every day infielder capable of actually getting a hit off the bench, and we need a 4/5th outfielder that can double as a pinch runner. Utility guys like Mark DeRosa and Chone Figgins come to mind. Marco Scutaro and Jerry Hairston Jr. are multi position options as well.
4. Have Drabek groomed for a midseason call up. I can deal with a piecemeal rotation for the first few months next year using Myers, Moyer, Kendrick, Happ, Blanton, Hamels, and Lee but an injury or two makes a scary situation out of them. Have Drabek prepared for a late season push.
5. Rebuild the bullpen. Oddly enough, the only guy that deserves to stay is the guy that might retire. Chan Ho Park may have priced himself out of town. Durbin & Condrey are at the end of their ropes. I’d like to see more opportunity given to young, hard throwing talent. Give more opportunity to guys like Escalona, Mathieson, and Savery to build a bullpen from within. Madson and Lidge remain and cross your fingers that the “every other year” streak Lidge has established holds true.
6. Have a viable backup plan to Ruiz. Bako, Coste, and Hoover are not reliable options. Good teams mix and match catchers with offensive power with defensive specialists depending on matchups. Ruiz has to play too many games behind the plate because of our lack of other options. Migual Olivo should remain affordable if his option isn’t picked up.
7. Michael Taylor or Dominic Brown need to be ready for the majors as a backup plan to Raul Ibanez. Assuming Ibanez has surgery in the offseason, his future is a complete shot in the dark. Considering the money we have committed to him, a free agent backup plan isn’t a viable option. But a .300 hitter who has some power is exactly what this team needs in the outfield and I think they have two potential candidates knocking on the doorstep.
I only regret that I didn’t find thefightins.com earlier. Just got my feet wet, and now its time to get out. Damn proud of the team–should be contending for years to come. Anyone reccomend a good fan blog for the Eagles, Sixers, and Flyers?
Hey Dash as others have said…… Thanks. These recaps help me through long days at the office all summer long.
Well guys, its been quite a ride. I am very glad I found this blog. There are some very talented writers and funny people that I have been honored to chat with. I also learned not to jokingly threaten to kick my cat on outlaw petes blog, or you will be banned for life. In any case, I know next year is going to be another great show. As soon as they announce the spring training schedule, my heart will be back in it and ready for another run! Have a good off season everyone.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are Philadelphia sports fans seriously talking about having class? That is the funiest fucking thing I have ever heard!
This is the best blog I’ve ever been on. Philadelphia is the premier sports town in America. Fuck NY and lastly, WIP murders WFAN.
the fair-weather fans are the ones saying get rid of hamels and lidge… those guys could do no wrong last year, and one shitty season from each later you want to run them out of town
“hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are Philadelphia sports fans seriously talking about having class? That is the funiest fucking thing I have ever heard!” says the guy who comes on the blog of the team that just lost to talk shit and arrogantly signs his post “#27″
Well Philadlephia, it wasn’t your year. The Yankees prevailed, as I had hoped and predicted.
Keep your heads held high, Philadelphia. You guys have one hell of a ball club with a great deal of talent. You’ve been to the World Series in two consecutive years, with a .500 winning percentage. I think most teams would be happy to take that; the Yankees included.
The Phillies have a lot of young talent which will surely be there in 2010 and well beyond that. You’ll be contenders for years to come. You’ll iron out some wrinkles in the offseason, make adjustments where needed, and you’ll be right there with the best of them for the foreseeable future.
I will probably be the only “Yankee troll” on this blog to tell you the truth. Out of all the World Series the Yankees have been to in the last 15 years, this one scared us the most. Do you know what it’s like being a Yankee fan and watching Chase Utley and Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez come to the plate? It’s damn scary. Anyone of those guys could have changed the game (or the Series for that matter) with a single swing of the bat This was a World Series for the ages and one of the best that I can remember.
I commend the Phillies fans. You guys are a great group of loyal, dedicated, and knowledgeable fans. As evidenced by the regulars on this site, you guys don’t give up and you don’t quit. Good for you. That’s all your team can ask from you. I’m sure you’ll be there next year too, ready for another run at the postseason.
Last but not least; I know HK meant a lot to your team and your city. He was a classic. Your team didn’t let him down. The Phillies provided him with a win in 2008, and gave him reason to smile in 2009. You know he watching down on this team and celebrating their run and return to the World Series.
Well done, Philadelphia. Well done.
Truly Yours,
RR – A Yankee Fan
First and foremost, thanks to the Phightin’s for a great year. Back to back trophies would have been sweet, but the prospect of taking it back from the Stankees next season brings warmth to my soul. I’ve been a Phillies fan since I was 7 and that was 45 years ago. I’ve seen a LOT of shitty squads and a few pretty good ones. This current Phillies team is by far the best I remember.
Second, thanks to the Fightin’s for, without doubt, the finest collection of Phillies fans ever. Thanks for the post-game wrapups, they sometimes made it easier to swallow a tough loss. And, thanks for the live blogs. We had some good mojo working. I got in early in the playoffs but was not able to make any of the WS blogs due to an actual death in the family. So, the Phils losing the Series takes on a different perspective for me and my family.
Third, thanks God, for giving me the divine guidance to be a Phillies fan and not a Yankees fan. Their whole attitude, their team persona, their ungodly salaries make me want to fucking puke. I sat there last night for about 15 minutes after the game and the one thing that really drove it home for me was Texieria “thanking God for leading me to this team”. Bullshit………the thing that lead him and all the other primadonnas to Yankee Stadium was Steinbrenner’s money.
Congratulations to the Yankees for beating a real champion……if there’s any joy to be taken on the Yank’s part for winning this series, it should be in knowing that, somehow, they managed to best the better team.
And one last thank you goes to the good folks at Birdland………keep coming up with the great shirts and I’ll keep parting with my money.
Third
@RR
Classy in victory. Refreshing to hear from NY. It’s easy to see the loud, obnoxious, and arrogant fans—NY has ‘em. So do the Phils. But we also both have fans who appreciate the game and the competition. Your post has helped me swallow this tough pill. It was an epic series—what d’ya say RR? Rematch in 2010? Sounds good to me. See you there
Great series guys, but calling the Yankees classless is ridiculous? Jimmy Rollins makes a prediction of a 4-1 win for the Phillies and then goes 5-23 in the series. Jayson Werth hits a solo HR in game 4 to make it 6-4 Yankees and slams his bat down and looks in his dugout as if he just tied the game or won it. A-Rod got hit 4 times in this series and there was no retaliation.
Also, you are calling the Yankees steroid freaks, when your setup man last year was on juice. I guess you forget pretty quickly. The list with all the names on it was from when most of your lineup was in the minors. This is 2009, MLB tests for steroids and no Yankees tested positive, so leave the steroid comments alone unless you want to bring up JC Romero (aka I didn’t know what I was taking). A-Rod was as skinny as I’ve seen him in years and he showed his natural abilities in these playoffs.
Someone said that the Yankees celebration was an act??? Really now. Some of you are sounding worse then Met fans with this garbage. A-Rod’s 1st championsip, Texeira’s first championship, CC’s first championship, AJ Burnett’s first Championship, and many others first. You play this game to win World Series. Did Ryan Howard’s salary make him act when they won the World Series last year? What about Utley, Lidge, and Rollins. Think a little before you talk.
@RR
You seriously may be the only classy, thoughtful and gracious Yankees fan on the face of the planet. Coming from a Phillies lifer, that’s high praise indeed.
@ sixtolescano
Rematch in 2010? It’s a date.
@ mr_cee
Thank you. You guys and your team have earned my respect, and coming from a Yankees lifer, that too is high praise indeed.
rr you clearly have maturity, unlike a couple other ny’ers that bounce around in here. your positivity is much louder than their stupidity.
Yankees Rule, you’re an idiot. The great thing about a Phillies blog is that it’s for Phillies fans. Why don’t you go and pretend to like A-Rod some more.
The only thing that gets to me is how fox assumed the yankees were gunna win, point being during commercials breaks the “awesome” fox lineup was back… ugh when i seen that i was hoping for a big rally but chutly still made it worth watching and other than coles comments [prolly out of frustration] couldnt be happier for the fightins
I’m an idiot? You had no answers for anything I said except “You’re an idiot” and “Pretend to like A-Rod”. A-Rod is the best player in baseball (juice or no juice). I like the metamorphosis (do a google search on that word, idiot) he has gone through this year mentally. He has become a teammate for the first time in his career and look what it did…World Championship. So I’ve hated the guy, but I sure love him today.
@Philly Phanatic
Really? You are going to go there. They are 24 teams sitting at home right now saying “wow I would love the chance to play in a WFS once let alone twice”. Even with all your gripes listed we still managed to get back the series. Everyone can play monday morning quarterback now because we didn’t win but I wonder if you would still be listing those things if we won last night?
This team, I will admit has gotten me a little bit greedy. I remember how ecstatic I was in 2007 when the Phillies made the playoffs for the first time in my life. I was almost as excited as the 2008 WS clincher (probably either #1 or #2 of the best moments in my life). The loss brought me back down to earth and made me realize how lucky I was that my team was in the WS for TWO STRAIGHT YEARS and Pirates and Royals fans are just chillin there with nothing.
A big thanks to all the Phillies (Yes, you too, Cole).
RR-
I love that letter! A classy NY fan…you don’t meet many of them. I will congratulate you because you are classy!
Stay classy, RR (said in Ron Burgundy’s voice)
PHuckJoeBuck-thanks for the speech from the late HK!!! I like that speech!
And can someone please ban hahahahaha from here? That “fan” is annoying…just like Ray fans with their cowbells.
@gaze: You’re completely right! We need to make the Phils even better in 2010! Drabek is gonna kick some serious ass! As long as Cholly weeds out the bad apples we’ll be back in the postseason!
@RR: You definitely have class, and I would love nothing better than to see a rematch! The Phils-Yanks WS was a real intense series and I think both could really turn up the heat next year!
@Yanksin6: Be more like RR and have some sort of class, otherwise do humanity a favor and die!
@Nationals#1: Grow a brain. The Nats have been horrible since as far back as I can remember, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they remain on the bottom for quite some time. Playing your team is more like the Special Olympics!
95 days till Spring Training. Phils are gonna kick ass!
