What happened?
Brett Myers gave up two homers and left with a hip injury as the Phillies fell to the Marlins and to 25-20 on the season.
Who did what?
Brett Myers (4-3) took the loss by allowing five runs in 5.2 innings. He gave up seven hits, one walk and struck out three.
Carlos Ruiz went 1 for 3 with a homer (2) and an RBI.
Matt Stairs went 1 for 1 with a pinch hit homer (3) and an RBI.
Burke Bradenhop (3-2) earned the win by allowing one run on five hits in five innings pitched. He walked one and struck out three.
Dan Uggla went 3 for 4 with a double (8) , a homer (9) and 2 RBIs.
Cody Ross went 3 for 4 with a double (13), a homer (7) and 2 RBIs.
Wes Helms went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
What does this mean?
9-14.
Nine and fourteen.
That’s the Phillies’ record at home this season. The same home that they proved to be unbeatable in during the playoffs last October. The same home that is a haven for the hitters. But yet, the Phillies can’t seem to get into a groove there, as they drop yet another series in front of the fans.
The big story tonight was Brett Myers and his injury, which may or may not prove to be serious (from the journalism school of Joe Morgan.) Myers left after 5.2 innings, and in obvious discomfort, stemming from his hip. With any luck, this problem is what caused him to be off tonight, and with more luck, it won’t be a persistent injury. A few days rest, and hopefully he is back on the mound. He has pitched too well this season for the Phillies to have to lose him to the DL.
Besides that, not much else happened tonight besides two near rallies in the 8th and 9th. And with the Mets winning (as of press time, they were ahead against the Nats), the Phils will fall to a half-game out of first place. Maybe this will get the team to get off their collective asses, and with the punching bag Nationals coming into town, it couldn’t come at a better time.
What’s next for our heroes?
After an off day on Thursday, the Phillies host the last place Washington Nationals. In game one, J.A. Happ (2-0, 2.60) takes on Ross Detwiler (0-0, 2.45).

Sad loss…
…but, on a happier note. I really, really, really love Matt Stairs.

I don’t want to hear any more nonsense about how our hitters stats are inflated by playing at CBP, because right now they are absolutely hitting like shit in our “bandbox” park.

@doubleh, we never have to worry about that from YANKEES fans, that’s for sure.

Greatest thing about that sorry game last night was Matt Stairs. Specifically, the two ginormous cuts he took at the ball BEFORE he launched another moon shot. I says to myself, I says “Damn, he missed his pitch.” And then he killed the ball and I heard it die. Legend.
