July 4 Game Recap: Phillies 4, Mets 1
Posted by Dash Treyhorn at 8:02 pm ET 19 Comments

What happened?

Jamie Moyer won his 253rd career game as the Phillies won their fourth in a row against the Mets.

Who did what?

Jamie Moyer (7-6) gave up one run in 6.1 innings. He allowed five hits, one walk and struck out one.

Jimmy Rollins went 1 for 3 with a double (18), two walks and two RBIs.

Shane Victorino went 3 for 5 with a run and an RBI.

Jayson Werth went 0 for 2 with a walk and an RBI.

Pedro Feliz went 3 for 4 with a run.

Paul Bako went 0 for 2 with two walks and two runs.

Brad Lidge earned his 15th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. He struck out two.

Fernando Nieve (3-2) gave up three runs on six hits and six walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three. He went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.

Alex Cora went 3 for 4.

Nick Evans went 1 for 4 with a run.

What does this mean?

It’s July 4th, and I’m out the door in a few to celebrate this great land’s independence by blowing stuff up, so I’ll leave you with three important things from today’s game…

1. Jamie Moyer was solid.

2. Jimmy Rollins had a hit for the third straight game, and his two-run double in the fourth proved to be the difference.

3. Brad Lidge, sporting a beard, was lights-out (yippee!) in the ninth inning. He threw 13 pitches and eight strikes. His fastball had good velocity, and his slider was 2008-like.

Enjoy your holiday, everyone. Be safe.

What’s next for our heroes?

In the series finale, Joe Blanton (5-4, 5.08) looks to lead the Phils to the sweep against Johan Santana (9-6, 3.34).

  1. Name (required) Says:

Don’t forget Manny had a homerun

  2. Chris Says:

Such a great game. Tug, Meech, and I booed the Mets well.

  3. ericvsthem Says:

One of the better home games for the Phils this year. Solid effort, all-around. Only disappointment was Dobbs, who stranded 6 runners. Need to get Raul back.

  4. Ayydamn Says:

    Broom Broom Broom

  5. Gonzo Says:

Lidge looked good sporting the ole Cliff Clavin beard today.

  6. PhiPhan5648 Says:

Lidge looked good sporting a 95 mile an hour fastball, that hit the corners.

  7. Lynniemac Says:

I’m confused. Did Manny’s homerun count for the Phillies or the Mets?

  8. Gonzo Says:

Seriously, Karros screamed, “he homered in his first at-bat!”. Umm, he went oh for 4 last night, douche.

  9. PhiPhan5648 Says:

    Fuck FOX.

    That’s all.

  10. Lynniemac Says:

I love how during the at bat, they had the split screen going (though, seriously, could it have been any smaller – I was watching on a 60″ and still thought it was tiny), then went to full screen… so we could watch him trot around the damn bases. THERE’S gripping television there for you.

Oh wait. I think my comment is about to be interrupted with a live look-in at Manny farting.

  11. Chris Says:

Lynniemac, your comments are pure gold.

  12. GenericFanGroup Says:

Here is the lesson for kids…Takes steroids, get suspended….then Fox will make you look like the most important person in baseball.

  13. Lynniemac Says:

    Aw shucks, Chris.

By the way, Douche du Jour = FOX Sports.

  14. will.H Says:

later tonight, Manny will jerk off into a tube sock and LA will give him a standing-O

  15. Brandon Says:

I was at the game today so I luckily didn’t have to watch fox. Thank God I missed the Manny coverage.

And I saw a good number of shirts from this site around the park.

  16. Eminencegirl Says:

FOX sports breaking into all other broadcasts to show that ASS MONKEY’S at bats was a FUCKING DISGRACE! Players around the league work so hard to come back from injuries and make triumphant returns and yet this ninny gets the fucking reach around for coming back from a 50 game drug suspension? REPULSIVE.

    Carry on.

  17. Tug Haines Says:

    What’s a “Manny Ramirez?”

  18. Mike P Says:

I have to say, I was downright pleased to be watching on mlb.tv during the Manny ABs. They kept their coverage on the Phils-Mets game, and because Fox had temporarily moved its TV coverage to LAD-SD, the announcers weren’t saying anything. So I got 5 solid minutes of baseball every few innings without inane commentary. Score.

  19. Here Come Da Judge Says:

at least mccarver earned a little respect from me by admitting the fox coverage of Manny was pretty excessive. luckily for him carlos Roo-is wasn’t playing or else i would have again had no respect for him
