July 23 Game Recap: Phillies 9, Padres 4

What happened?

Cole Hamels was solid over seven innings to lead the Phillies to their 15th win in their last 17 games. They are 54-39 and have a 6.5 game lead in the N.L. east.

Who did what?

Cole Hamels (W, 6-5) gave up three runs in seven innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Jimmy Rollins went 2 for 4 with a double (24) and an RBI.

Shane Victorino went 2 for 4.

Chase Utley went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Ryan Howard went 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Raul Ibanez went 1 for 5 with a double (20) and 2 RBIs.

Jayson Werth went 3 for 5 with two doubles (17) and an RBI.

Pedro Feliz went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Carlos Ruiz went 1 for 4 with a homer (5) and an RBI.

Which means…

…wait for it…

…EVERYBODY HITS!

Kevin Correia (L, 6-8) pitched 3.1 innings and gave up eight runs on nine hits. He walked three and struck out two.

Tony Gwynn Jr. went 1 for 4 with a double (8) and a run.

Everth Cabrera went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Chase Headley went 1 for 4 with a double (14) and an RBI.

Kyle Blanks went 2 for 4 with a homer (2) and two RBIs.

What does this mean?

A few points about tonight’s game:

Cole Hamels made one of his best starts of the season.

The offense took it to the Padres early and often.

The Phillies are 15-2 in their last 17.

They still need Roy Halladay.

What’s next for our heroes?

The St. Louis Cardinals come to town for a three game set, and J.A. Happ (7-0, 2.68) faces off against Joel Pineiro (8-9, 3.09) in game one.

I love Chan Ho Park. He might be the most reliable guy in the bullpen right now.

And is it me, or is Chad Durbin one of the biggest douches of the season? I know he’s been pretty much garbage lately, and now it surfaces that he’s been hurt. Why does it always seem like pitchers (especially relievers) hide injuries? Instead of trying to be a hero, do what’s best for the team and take the necessary time off.

Despite the nice win tonight, we have a little rant at the site about that. Check it out.

@4DaysRest.com, He’s not really been that terribly bad lately. Could be worse, could have The Jack of No Trades, Trashner in there.

Nice to get a win over the Pad-Squad, hopefully we can take this next test against the Giants in stride.
