What happened?
Scott Olsen and three relievers shut down the Phillies, putting them at 11-9 on the season.
Who did what?
Brett Myers tossed his third quality start in a row by allowing three runs in six innings while earning his second loss of the season. He gave up eight hits, walked three and struck out three.
Shane Victorino provided the only run for the Phillies with a solo homer (3) in the first inning.
Jimmy Rollins went 2 for 5.
Ryan Howard went 2 for 4.
Raul Ibanez went 1 for 2 with two walks.
Scott Olsen pitched 5.2 innings and gave up one run for his first win of the season. He allowed six hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Ryan Zimmerman went 1 for 4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.
Elijah Dukes went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Anderson Hernandez went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
But what does this all mean?
Well, the Phils can’t win them all, and they are still 5-1 in their last six games, which isn’t too bad considering the shape of the rotation.
Brett Myers pitched another solid start, and if he only gives up three runs per start the rest of the way, it’s likely that the Phillies will win most of those games. He had some command problems, but all in all, he kept things close.
The offense just couldn’t get into a groove tonight, leaving 10 men on base. Quite honestly, Scott Olsen looked pretty solid, due to his command of his breaking pitches and a slightly liberal strike zone from the home plate umpire.
What’s next for our heroes?
After an off day, the Phillies face the Mets at home for the first time in 2009. Friday night’s game pits Chan Ho Park (0-0, 7.16) against Mike Pelfrey (2-0, 6.32).
Bonus baseball!
I’ll be posting my first “State of the NL East” tomorrow night, which will break down the east division after one month of play. Don’t worry, it won’t be too stat heavy; just an overview of the teams and how they fared in the month of April. So be sure to check that out.

two >.500 Aprils in a row? I don’t think we have had two back-to-back seasons of >.500 Aprils in a while.

The “Rookie” home plate umpire last night seemed to have a pretty odd strike zone. I could tell after the first inning that knee high fast balls weren’t going to be strikes… unfortunately Brett Myers didn’t see that.
