According to his post-game quotes, Matt Stairs must be into some freaky celebratory shit. Following the 2-run blast that made Jonathan Broxton the new old-Brad Lidge, he had this to say:
“When you get that nice celebration coming into the dugout and you’re getting your ass hammered by guys — there’s no better feeling than to have that done.”
Hey, I’m not here to judge, Matt. Do whatcha gotta.

Like I said, Shane Victornio is one hell of an interview. Following Game 3 of the NLCS, FOX’s irritating midget, Ken Rosenthal, had a few questions to ask of the centerfielder. And like he said, someone on the Phillies was bound to get hit after Myers threw behind Manny and Russell Martin was hit by a 42-mph Jamie Moyer pitch. Like he said, it was inevitable, but all he asked was that Kuroda not throw at his head. I mean, like he said, it’s squashed now — it’s over — but like he said, there came a point where he knew someone was gonna get hit. Like he said though, just don’t throw at his head. Like he said.
SEVEN times in a 1:14 interview. A NEW RECORD!
Ugh. Baseball altercations can be so disappointing sometimes.
In case you’ve been out celebrating the Eagles win over the 49ers for the past 14 hours, here’s a brief Phillies update: The Dodgers whooped the Phillies’ ass and Hiroki Kuroda threw a 94-mph fastball at Shane Victorino’s melon. After Vic grounded out to first, benches cleared, people screamed at each other and the game continued. The End.
Here is video of the incident with Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen & Vin Scully’s voices replacing those annoying fellows in the FOX booth:
Following the FOX tradition of getting a member of the organization to relay the starting lineup for each game, yesterday was the Phillie Phanatic’s turn. The only problem here is, the Phanatic doesn’t actually speak. So instead, the most popular mascot in baseball plays a game of charades with the viewing audience while a caricature of each player flashes on the screen. Enjoy:
I have just returned from a phenomenal Game 2 of the NLCS where, once again, it was the Brett & Shane show. Incredibly, Brett allowed five earned runs but also made up for every one of them with his bat and on the base paths.
There will certainly be more to discuss tomorrow. For now though, I’ll leave you with video of the only guy in either LCS batting 1.000 so I can get some shut-eye:
Perched atop his motorized scooter equipped with only an amp, a mic, and his silky vocal tones, Philadelphia resident Sonny Forriest Jr. has been spotted maneuvering his way around The Bank charming the fans with his soon-to-be SMASH hit tune in support of the Fightin’ Phils. I think it’s called “Go, Phillies, Go” or maybe “Three Strikes You’re Out” — something like that.
The song title isn’t important here, what is important is that a one-legged man on a scooter has penned the most infectious theme song a baseball team could ask for. Judge for yourself:
Beautiful, ain’t it? Good man, that Sonny. If you’re headed to the game this afternoon (like me!) and you notice Sonny scooting around with his mic in hand, show some love and drop him a couple bucks.
Side note: My boy Sonny was even on an episode of The Jerry Springer Show entitled, “These two broads stole my leg.” Classic.
Scott Palmer, the Director of Public Affairs for the Phillies was involved in a prank gone awry last night at Citizens Bank Park. While reporter Dawn Timmeney was wrapping up an on-field interview with the legendary Sarge Matthews about how he almost-singlehandedly beat the Dodgers in the ‘83 NLCS, Mr. Palmer playfully tossed a ball in the general vicinity of the two which was supposedly intended for Sarge.
However, the ball never reached Sarge, instead the errant throw caromed off of Timmeny’s breast before bouncing off her lap and onto the ground. Being the professional that she is, she didn’t skip a beat.

With the Phillies/Dodgers NLCS kicking off tonight in Philadelphia (←my favorite words typed all year), team players and coaches had to go through their customary day-before press conferences to give media types and bloggers things to discuss. When ex-Phillies SS & Manager Larry Bowa took to the mic, the first question asked of him was concerning Phillies fans. He was rather complimentary:
“They’re very boisterous. I think they love their sports teams. They let you know when you’re not doing well, but they also let you know when you’re doing things right.
And I know that Jimmy said something earlier in the year, we talked about it. The one thing they’re not is front-runners; they come out. They come out and support their team. Watching the playoffs against Milwaukee, it was quite a sight. And I told our guys if they thought Chicago was bad, they’re in for a rude awakening, because it’s not even close.
Maybe because we sort of took Chicago out of it early. But it was like — it’s like a West Coast crowd in Chicago really.”
And if you thought that “West Coast crowd” comment was a slight knock on his current team, you’re not alone. The presser’s moderator followed up by asking bluntly, “You don’t like Dodger crowds?”
“I like loud crowds from the first pitch to the last.”
You hear that Phillies fans? Tonight, how about giving Larry what he likes.
Embedded video of said Philly fan talk, ay-tee-jay.
If you think the Philadelphia contingent isn’t charged up for the NLCS, you obviously aren’t friends with this guy.
