Sorry if my first post in a coon’s age isn’t a funny one, but the Delaware County Daily Times reports that June Manuel, Charlie’s mother, has passed away. No word on whether it was sudden or what the cause was.

I can’t imagine a loss more difficult coming on the heels of what was such a happy occasion for Charlie, his players and us fans less than 24 hours ago. According to the article…

Here is what Manuel told MLB.com about his mom on Mother’s Day, 2005:

“I can’t imagine a better person in the world than my mother,” Manuel said. “I hope everybody’s mom is like mine. She’s been very special to me, and I’ve been very lucky to have a mother like her.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Charlie, as well as your family, and we’ll certainly understand if managing a game is the last thing on your mind today. Let’s see the Phillies go out and kick some Dodger tail in her memory.
