The lovely Nicole Brewer (journalist for CBS3 and Miss Pennsylvania 2005) was kind enough to invite me to a Skype chat over the intranets last week for a little interview about this here website and what type of thing one could expect if they came here.
If you click on Nicole’s picture up top there, you’ll be whisked away to the video page on CBS3’s website where you can watch our two-and-a-half minute convo, OR you can click on the first link below the text for the written portion of our Q&A, OR do both. Preferably both.
Thank you.

VIDEO: meech.one and Nicole Brewer talk Phillies | CBS3.com

Last night was my introductory appearance to the glorious world o’ podcasting. dUB-iLL & slim of NERDCASTonline invited me on their show to yuk it up for about 20 minutes to talk about such interesting things as how The Fightins dot com came to be, t-shirts, how a comment thread becomes a dating service, that Henry Hill/Jimmy Rollins video, and why sailors are for condoms.
Heavy stuff, man. Do me a favor and check it out — I phone in around the 29-minute mark.
Thanks to Mr. Petzar for this amusing tidbit.
Now that I have your attention, I just wanted to let you know that you can follow The Fightins Dot Com on Twitter. If you prefer Facebook for your social networking needs, we now have our very own fan page.
These are valuable services, both for the site and the readers. It’s a good way to keep up-to-date, find out our real names (guess what mine is), introduce new people to the site and snark back and forth.
It’s also worth mentioning (again) that Birdland has a facebook page, too. When a new shirt is available (and there are a couple of new ones), you can find out right away. Check it out.

Philadelphia City Paper, more specifically Mr. E. James Beale, released a list a couple of days ago of the Top 5 nonregistered Phillies t-shirts on the planet. Not surprisingly, the Birdland fellas secured two of those spots.
SURPRISINGLY, they were numbers 4. & 5.
Oh well, hopefully City Paper’s website attracts a bunch of dyslexic mutherfuckers and they think we are actually 1. & 2. Regardless, we are still humbled by the recognition.
Bluurrrb (excuse me):
5. and 4. Birdland Philadelphia’s “Raauuulll” and “Moon Shot” Tees
What they are: Birdland Philadelphia and The Fightins Dot Com teamed up to produce hyperlocal Phillies gear for the fan whose favorite player probably isn’t Chase Utley. The two we’ve selected celebrate the fans’ signature Raul Ibanez chant and Matt Stairs’ postseason heroics.
Why you want them: They have shirts celebrating everyone from Carlos Ruiz to pitching coach Rich Dubee. If you know who Green Lazor Guy is, or understand what the phrase “Watch Out Bro” means to the Phils, this is the place for you. Plus, if you’re caught on camera with one, you’ll probably get the added bonus of Meech himself throwing your picture up on thefightins.com.
Where to get them: birdlandphiladelphia.com
Our picks for the five best nonregistered Phillies tees | City Paper
If I may jog your memory for a minute, waaaaay back in May I entered a daily trivia contest called “Stump the Fans” where viewers frantically e-mail their answers to the Phillies in order to win a special prize pack. The first lucky e-mailer with the correct answer written in the subject line wins a hand-picked assortment of goodies which is supposed to be delivered to the winner’s home.
Well I won that shit, bragged about it right here, and STILL HAVEN’T RECEIVED MY PRIZE.
Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t dare complain about it. Afterall, I have a shitload of patience and I’m sure people in the Phillies prize office have better, more important things to do than ship out my package in a timely fashion. I didn’t even get worried when The Fightins commenter Gonzo won well over a month after I did and he got his in the mail already. Eh, there was probably a mix up or something.
Then last night I noticed that T-Mac asked the same exact question during the third inning of the game against the Padres that he asked when I supposedly won back in May. Now I’m starting to get the feeling that I’ve been unfairly singled out and am being made an example of by the Phillies prize team.
Anyway, here is the irrefutable proof of the repeated question. From May 16th, 2009:
And this is the one from last night, July 23rd:

See? SAME QUESTION! If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that they repeated the question just to taunt me. I mean, even Wheels knew the friggin question was a repeat. Listen to what he had to say, after the jump.
One of my favorite parts of each Phillies broadcast is the daily Dodge Stump the Fans trivia question where fans wait for a question to be aired in the third inning and quickly shoot off the answer in hopes of winning the famed “prize pack” that’s given to each winner. I think I’ve fired off roughly 200 e-mails over the past few years, and I either get the answer wrong completely, or some nerd with warp speed Google skills cuts & pastes the answer mere milliseconds before I can hit ‘Send’.
Well last Saturday was MY day. *I* knew the cot damn answer and sent it in quicker than all of you Stump the Fan whores who normally stand in the way between me and a secret prize pack.
Stump THIS, bitches. *points to genitals*
I’ve gone ahead and highlighted the winner for your convenience:

Just a PSA for all you fashion-conscious Phillies fans out there…
I’m sure most of you just received tickets in the mail for the upcoming 2009 regular season, correct? Well you don’t wanna go to The Bank wearing that passé “Phinally!” t-shirt, do you? Of course you don’t.
That’s why we teamed up with those geniuses over at Birdland to bring you a shit ton of alternate designs to purchase for the low, low price of 15 dollars. Check out the newest additions:

(If you were following me on Twitter, you would’ve known about this, like, hours ago)
In case you haven’t noticed, there is a nice big ad on the right hand side of the page now. If you click on it, you will be swept away to the internet portal that holds thee freshest in Philadelphia sports gear that can’t afford to pay licensing fees for logos and shit.
It’s been in the works for a while, I hope you enjoy the selection. If there isn’t anything that currently suits your fancy, much more added in the coming weeks, so be patient.
As always, if you have any design ideas, suggestions, questions, or complaints, feel free to hit me up on the e-mail: FightinsTips [at] gmail [dot] com
If not, look around and buy a couple t-shirts. You won’t find a higher quality tee for this low of a price anywhere.
Big thanks to Joel & Pete over at Birdland Philadelphia for the collaboration.
