Back in 2009, Phillies radio play-by-play guy Scott Franzke, his wife Lori, and their two dogs, Darla and Ladybird, starred in an episode of the little-known DIY Network home remodeling show called “Kitchen Impossible”. After (I’m assuming) the Franzkes wrote the network for help on their outdated kitchen, some TV show host/contractor guy named Marc Bartolomeo showed up at their house with his team of fixer-uppers and turned the Franzke’s barely functional kitchen (where Hulk Hogan figurines double as decorations) into a modern, livable kitchen with fancy upgrades that they tend to do on these sort-of shows. I don’t mean to spoil it for you if you’ve never seen, but it turns out this kitchen isn’t so impossible to fix after all. Damn misleading show titles!

Depending on your level of interest after reading that description, I’ve embedded the entire episode post-jump. If you choose to watch it, that’s on you.

Ah jeez, you just hate to see this —

It seems as though Chris Wheeler was the victim of an unfortunate prank gone awry on the team bus headed to the airport in St. Louis the other day.

In a story relayed by Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen on the Phillies radio broadcast last night, Chris Wheeler was taking care of business in the bathroom of the bus transporting the broadcast team from the stadium to the airplane when it came to a stop on the tarmac and reached its destination. As everyone got off the bus, Scott Franzke was lagging behind because he had hid Wheeler’s briefcase and I guess wanted to get a good laugh as Chris frantically tried searching for it before they had to board the plane. Instead, Scott heard “a muffled banging noise” coming from the bathroom, and when he went back to check on it, he opened the door and found Chris Wheeler locked inside with the broken door knob in his hand.

The funniest part is, if Franzke never hid Wheeler’s briefcase in the first place, he would’ve already got off the bus and poor Chris Wheeler might still be stuck in that bathroom as I type this.

If you weren’t happy with my telling of that story, I’m sorry, and I have embedded the audio from WPHT featuring Franzke & L.A. after the jump hoping you’ll accept that as my apology. Thank you.

During last night’s radio broadcast on THE BIG TALKER 1210 WPHT, Scott Franzke shared an anecdote from earlier in the day when Chris Wheeler almost got hit in the head by a poorly thrown ball during warm-ups. According to Franzke, Wheeler was sitting in the dugout (wearing a baseball glove?) when an errant throw was about to nail Wheels until an alert Sarge Matthews told him to duck and basically saved his life.

I believe the Sarge is a hero part and the Chris Wheeler wears a glove in the dugout during warmups part, but I’m not so sure I buy the part that this was an “accidental” throw. I think that whoever threw that baseball knew exactly what they were doing.

The audio is after the jump.

In the 8th inning off of yesterday’s game, while deadlocked in a 2-2 tie with the Florida Marlins, Phillies radio colorman Larry Andersen apparently dozed off for a second in the radio booth. With nobody on base and Gaby Sanchez at the plate, play-by-play guy Scott Franzke starts cackling like he does when LA does something worthy of a cackle. But this time, LA didn’t have a witty comeback, only a garbled “Wha?” that people tend to do when somebody wakes them up.

So then Franzke, who obviously didn’t want to drop a dime on his boy LA, said while laughing, “If I was another broadcaster in this town I might have had a comment for that.” Which was clearly in reference to the time earlier this season when Sixers play-by-play man Marc Zumoff called out Eric Snow for falling asleep on air.

Audio embedded after the jump, chump. Go ahead, it’s worthy of a listen.

More from the perfect Halladay weekend: My boy Dan Levy from On the DL Podcast talked with T-Mac and Franzke for his Press Coverage piece this week about what it was like being in the booth to not only witness, but call the play-by-play for Roy Halladay’s perfect game.  Real good stuff here, folks.  Check it out.  [The Sporting Blog]

Little baby boy August was welcomed to the Franzke family last night at 10:13 PM. He weighs 7 lbs 15 oz. and has a bright future of broadcasting ahead of him.

Congrats Scott!

Here’s the final out, called by Scott Franzke. I have no idea what is up with the images here, but it’s pretty hilarious.
