One of the most underrated aspects of Phillies broadcasts being on a regular channel like myphl17 is definitely the promos they make the announcers read prior to some innings. When they’re on Comcast, they are basically just promoting other sports shows or something that could be easily segue’d in to. But when you mix in some shitty programming, the outcome is usually hilarious. Like this:

I gotta tell you, my favorite of all-time broadcaster promo happened last year when the Phils were still on CW57 and Harry Kalas was reading a commercial for that crappy new 90210 redux and read it, “Tune in this Tuesday for the premiere of an all-new season of ninety-twenty-ten.”

haha, miss you Harry.

This past Monday night, Jimmy Rollins made a cameo at the Wachovia Center for a taping of WWE’s weekly ‘rasslin extravaganza, RAW.  While seated comfortably in the first row behind J.R. and the announcer’s table, Jimmy got into it with some guy named Montel Vontavious Porter — or MVP for short — who bravely continues to do that Jim Jones “Ballin” gesture even though it went out of style two years ago when Michael Strahan started doing it.

Here is a first-hand account from an NBC10 scribe who seems to be way into wrestling:

[With his] finger pointed at Rollins, MVP called the Phillies’ first championship in 25 years a fluke. To further boost his own confidence — he needed it because the MVStink hasn’t won a match since what, that first championship — the Smackdown choke artist showed no brotherly love claiming he was better than Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and the entire city of Brotherly Love.

Amidst the barrage of boos — equal to that of a J.D. Drew sighting — MVP’s rant was cut shorter than Rollins stands tall.

Wrestling-foe Charlie Haas bounded into the ring rocking an MVP Power Rangers suite.

Okay — I’ve heard enough.

What? Nobody requested more Kurt Angle? Are you sure?

Well too bad, fuck-o — I had to pause Madden ‘08 ‘09 just to throw this shit up. It’s a Sunday anyways, don’t be so greedy. Enjoy watching Kurt Angle swing a baseball bat like an uncoordinated 5-year old girl.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a 2nd down and long to convert…

Here you will find Ex-Olympic ‘rassler Kurt Angle taking in yesterday’s business persons special at The Bank against the Marlins. Angle was in town to promote TNA’s weekend pay-per-view event, “Hardcore Justice” (filmed LIVE! in Trenton, NJ) where he will face some fella name AJ Styles. Roamer-of-all-crowds, T-Mac, caught up with the one-time Intercontinental Champion (my favorite of all ‘rasslin belts) who informed Tom that the current crop of Olympians in Beijing should concentrate on their events and not worry about all that “protesting stuff.”

Yeah! Screw the well-being of those innocent victims in China — LET’S MEDAL!

No word yet on whether or not T-Mac relayed Kurt’s message overseas.
