When our Fightin’ Phils were in the playoffs last year, a new superstar fan emerged from the pack to make everyone feel at ease about our chances of winning the World Series.

That man was Monty G.

The morning after that dreaded Game 5a of the World Series, when an entire city felt a bit uneasy about the way things were unfolding, a female reporter from 6abc just happened to be roaming the streets looking for someone — ANYONE — who could bring some positivity to Philly.  Preferably with a little freestyle rap and some bird noises.  Then, voila.  Monty G came to the rescue.

Well yesterday afternoon, Monty G returned.  And this time, he came equipped with a Phillies-themed afro and a brand new airbrushed t-shirt.  The Phillie Phanatic, obviously aware of Monty and his exploits, pulled him up on the dugout steps and electrified a sold-out Bank with their breathtaking dance moves and large bellies.

I was afraid that this moment would pass without anyone documenting it, but thankfully @Harpo42 and her trusty Canon EOS captured it beautifully.

And now, without further adieu, ladies and gents put your hand together for — MONTY GEE!

In this first edition of ‘Phun Phanatic Phlashback Phriday!’ (which will coincidentally be the last edition), watch as the Phillie Phanatic spots a man sitting in the middle of the row near the Phillies dugout, then proceeds to walk over towards him, stand on top of him, and swing his enormous Galapagosian sack all about the guy’s eyes and head. As an added bonus, it happened against the Rockies last year so you get to hear that lovely baritone voice of Harry Kalas paired with Sergeant Matthews.

It might just be the largest public tea-bagging in recorded history.

(Figurative tea-bagging to The Fightins reader Chris Hertz for the tip)

If there was any doubt whatsoever as to who is the most entertaining mascot in baseball, the Phillie Phanatic’s latest stunt may have just solidified his #1 spot.  With Jack Nicholson in attendance at The Bank seated comfortably to the left of home plate for the Phillies drubbing of the Cubs, the Phanatic dug deep into his closet and pulled out his vintage Batman costume so he could provoke the former Joker in-between innings.

Nicholson, who wore a Yankees cap because he’s Jack Nicholson and he can pretty much do whatever he damn well pleases, took it all in stride as the Phanatic attempted to embarrass the Academy Award winning actor to the delight of 46,000+ fans. Unfortunately, I think Jack is impervious to embarrassment.

See for yourself, after the jump.

“When did these telecasts turn into a clown act?”

That’s what I’d like to know, Chris.

And that should just about wrap-up Broadcaster’s Appreciation Day here on The Fightins.

Thanks for joining us.

Shame on me for not mentioning anything about it yesterday, but on July 5th, the day after America’s birthday, Sarge Matthews (59) and Tom McCarthy (41) both celebrated theirs. It was quite the day of hijinks in the myphl17 broadcast booth, including this happy birthday popcorn bath courtesy of the Phillie Phanatic.

I’m sure there will be documentation of the rest of foolishness later today, but for now, enjoy this:

Happy belated birthday, gentlemen.

The Phillie Phanatic got up extra early on this off day to head to The Bank and sit in a chair that was attached to bunch of giant helium balloons which lifted him 40-feet in the air (don’t worry, he was tethered to the ground) so somebody could take a picture of him in the faint hope that some lame-o with a lack of material would post it on his or her blog, thus bringing free promotion to Disney/Pixar’s latest release “UP” which arrives in theaters May 29th.  And just in case you were wondering, “UP” is a comedy adventure about 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. From the Academy Award®-nominated director Pete Docter (”Monsters, Inc.”), Disney/Pixar’s UP invites you on a hilarious journey into a lost world, with the least likely duo on Earth.

SHIT!  I’ve been foiled again.

In case there was any question as to who bakes the tastiest cake, this new :30 Tastykake spot featuring the Phillie Phanatic and a Butterscotch Krimpet mascot should clear up any confusion. Observe:

What a duo!

Although I have to say, I find it quite disturbing that the Butterscotch Krimpet seems so eager to help the Phanatic load up cases of Butterscotch Krimpets onto the Tastykake delivery truck. Don’t you see what they’re up to? It’s only a matter of time before it’s YOU that gets hacked into thousands of rectangularly-shaped pieces and tossed on the delivery truck for our future consumption!

Run, Butterscotch Krimpet, RUUUUNNN!

I didn’t get a chance to watch the episode yet, so I’m a little unsure of the context, but here is proof of the Phillie Phanatic’s triumphant(?) debut on The Simpsons where he appears to be greeting a group of nuns who are getting off of tiny boats:

Matt P over at The Level has video posted from the ep if you’re into that sorta thing.

With the missus back at home tending to the Phanatic kids and holding down the Phanatic household, it appears as though the famous Phillies mascot is quickly growing accustomed to life as a single green fuzzy thing in sunny Florida.

Take yesterday for example — after the lineups were announced and the players were headed back to their respective dugouts, the Phanatic spotted an opportunity to introduce himself to the lovely young Hooters girl that just so happens to double as a Phillies ballgirl during Spring Training. But my man wasn’t content with just a friendly hug, so he quickly pulled her back in for a more intimate embrace while emanating some of that classic Phanatic charm of his. See for yourself:

They definitely banged.

I’m pretty sure the ceremonial start to a hockey game commences with a dropping of the puck, but if the Phillie Phanatic is doing the honors, rest assured it will stray from the norm. When the fuzzy green fella showed up at the Wachovia Spectrum for the Phantoms home opener against the Hershey Bears, instead of dropping it… HE THREW IT!

LIKE THEY DO IN A BASEBALL GAME!

Phantoms goalie Scott Munroe (hailing from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) plays the role of Chooch Ruiz.

Here’s the video, presented without sound courtesy of YouTube user PhantomsSTH7780.

(Just in case you couldn’t tell by the giant “Video By PhantomsSTH7780″ graphic sprawled across the screen.)
