I think it’s safe to say that Larry Bowa is not too fond of Brad Penny.

Apparently Brad said some unflattering things about the ex-Phillies skip to Yahoo! Sports reporter Tim Brown yesterday.   Basically, Penny felt that Bowa “didn’t have his back” and “disrespected” him.

Today, Tony Jackson of Inside the Dodgers informed Larry of Brad’s opinion, and before Jackson even got a chace to tell him about it — BOWA WENT OFF:

“You mean the same guy who was never on time, out of shape and has one complete game? He has more stuff to worry about in the A.L. East than me. He has to worry about getting people out. He was never on time, was out of shape and never helped the kids out. Put that on the fucking dot-com. Put it in the headline.” [Ed. note: Done.]

“He never watched the game (when he was on the DL). Jason Schmidt watched the games. Nomar Garciaparra watched the games. Mark Sweeney watched the games. You go right down the line, everybody who was on the DL watched the games. But not him. He was out of there,” explained Bowa. “I’m in everybody’s corner when they work. When they’re lazy and don’t work. I could give a (well, you get the picture).”

In Brad’s defense, I’d choose Eliza Dushku over watching a Dodgers game anyday.  But at least we know Larry’s not going soft in his old age.

Larry Bowa's Joba Chamberlain impressionWith the Phillies/Dodgers NLCS kicking off tonight in Philadelphia (←my favorite words typed all year), team players and coaches had to go through their customary day-before press conferences to give media types and bloggers things to discuss. When ex-Phillies SS & Manager Larry Bowa took to the mic, the first question asked of him was concerning Phillies fans. He was rather complimentary:

“They’re very boisterous. I think they love their sports teams. They let you know when you’re not doing well, but they also let you know when you’re doing things right.

And I know that Jimmy said something earlier in the year, we talked about it. The one thing they’re not is front-runners; they come out. They come out and support their team. Watching the playoffs against Milwaukee, it was quite a sight. And I told our guys if they thought Chicago was bad, they’re in for a rude awakening, because it’s not even close.

Maybe because we sort of took Chicago out of it early. But it was like — it’s like a West Coast crowd in Chicago really.”

And if you thought that “West Coast crowd” comment was a slight knock on his current team, you’re not alone. The presser’s moderator followed up by asking bluntly, “You don’t like Dodger crowds?”

“I like loud crowds from the first pitch to the last.”

You hear that Phillies fans? Tonight, how about giving Larry what he likes.
