Easily one of my favorite parts of the Phillies run through the playoffs is when the local news stations make their non-sports fan field reporters play host to a wacky street segment with Philly fans. They are usually meaningless fluff pieces that have no real point other than to get people to scream on camera and act all crazy and shit.
And sometimes, that know-nothing field reporter will slip up and say something so inappropriate that it prompts a blogger to record the piece and put it on his or her website for all to mock.
This example would fall under the second category.
Meet Fox 29’s Mike Jerrick. This morning, Mike’s job was to interview the founding members of the Padilla Flotilla. It doesn’t sound like such a hard task; all you have to do is ask them how and why they started that particular fan group, get them to denounce said fan group now that Padilla is pitching for the Dodgers, get them to scream “PHILLAAAAAYYYYYYYS!” real loud into the camera, and finally, introduce them to a new fan group that they could all rally around.
It was that last part that where he ran into some trouble. While asking the fellas if they were down with Carlos Ruiz, he then wanted to know if they were gonna “ride the cooch train.” Of course, he meant to say “Chooch” — as in the Panamanian superstar Chooch Ruiz — but unfortunately, Mike’s little slip of the tongue also happens to be a nickname for a woman’s vagina.
tee-hee!

Most of the time that I write about the lovable colorman Chris Wheeler on this here blog, I completely understand that only the people who watch Phillies games will understand what I’m talking about. Well, if his world-famous Twitter page and mentions on FOX’s national TV game of the week are any indication, all that is about to change.
While posing a “trivia question” to the audience about where pint-sized Ken Rosenthal was going after the conclusion of Saturday’s Phillies/Yankees game, the first option was “Going to dinner with Tim, Wheels & LC.” Tim, of course, is Joe Buck’s slightly less-annoying partner during the FOX games Tim McCarver, LC is former Phillies pitcher Larry Christenson, and the “Wheels” they were referring to is the man himself — Chris Wheeler.
Not like anybody watching the game gave a fuck, but the correct answer was B.) Going to see Bruce Springsteen & the powerful E Street Band. But the question itself allowed FOX cameras to focus on the Twitter addicted former PR man and he definitely didn’t disappoint.
Video of the FOX appearance and the aftermath of his new-found fame – after the jump.
While accentuating another umpire blunder in this series (that’s #5 if you’re keeping track at home), the FOX graphics team put a purdy little frame around a close-up of Evan Longoria’s glove knuckle-deep in Jimmy Rollins’ ass. What a gorgeous painting that would make!
You could honestly just crop out the rest of the shot, print that sucker out, and nail it to your living room wall.
Thanks for that, FOX.

Following the FOX tradition of getting a member of the organization to relay the starting lineup for each game, yesterday was the Phillie Phanatic’s turn. The only problem here is, the Phanatic doesn’t actually speak. So instead, the most popular mascot in baseball plays a game of charades with the viewing audience while a caricature of each player flashes on the screen. Enjoy:
