Was there a better moment in last night’s game than when that Dodgers fan was celebrating in front of the camera and then noticed he had broken his glasses? Well, yeah, maybe the two Phillies homers and stuff, too.

Some more random observations from last night’s game:

• The Phillies walked 7 times last night and 4 of those runners scored. (Also: Cole Hamels’ walked but was erased when Jimmy Rollins hit into a fielder’s choice; Rollins later scored, too.) I love the way this team plays.

• Take a look at these two highlights: Carlos Ruiz’ go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the fifth, and Manny Ramirez’s two-run shot in the bottom half of that inning. During the game I thought that Chip Caray was way more excited for Ramirez’s homer than Ruiz’s, but on the replay I actually don’t think there’s that much of a difference. (The crowd noise makes him seem more excited.) Hell, with a producer yelling in his ear telling him to hype the superstar, I guess we should be lucky he didn’t immediately declare him the greatest player of all time after his homer. Of course, it is Chip Caray: We’re lucky Ruiz’s homer wasn’t called “a line drive out” and Ramirez’s wasn’t called “a game-saving tackle by Troy Polamalu.”

• My favorite lead to any game recap today comes from the Daily News‘ David Murphy (warning: link auto-plays a video; I assume Philly.com is going to be advertising the X10 spy cam soon, too):

LOS ANGELES – If any shred of doubt remained about the danger of playing baseball games on paper, Raul Ibanez sent it sailing into the warm, still Southern California night in the eighth inning of the first game of the National League Championship Series.

And here I thought the only real danger of playing baseball games on paper was getting a wicked paper cut.

This is not my favorite David Murphy lead of the year. That one came on Aug. 22 in a Phillies-Mets recap. It’s far too long for me to blockquote here, but I suggest you head over to that link and read it. (This link does not include an auto-play video, thankfully.) All it’s really missing is a line like, “One morning, as Cole Hamels was waking up from anxious dreams of new products to endorse, he discovered that in bed he had been changed into a monstrous verminous bug.”

• Hmm, what else? Oh, here’s a photo of Jamie McCourt with Lauren Conrad from Laguna Beach. Did you know LC has one novel out already and another one the way? Hey, look on the bright side: At least Heidi Montag has not yet written a novel.

• Aw, look, Dodgers fans were so upset, noted Phillie Phanatic hater Tommy Lasorda had to console them all on his Twitter account. On a side note: How black must a man’s heart be to hate the Phillie Phanatic?

I’m looking forward to today’s game, if only because it has a super-convenient start of 1 p.m. Pacific time, which means there will be a ton of easy jokes to make about an empty Dodger Stadium. I really don’t know what to expect from Pedro Martinez, but taking the first game will sure make watching this one a lot more fun.

Each day(-ish) during the postseason, Dan McQuade will write about the Phillies’ chance at a second straight World Series title. You can usually read his thoughts on baseball at Walkoff Walk. He guesses that Chan Ho Park credited his strong pitching outing last night to American tacos.
