Two pitches after he almost murdered Geoff Jenkins, Ryan Howard got a hold of an Ian Snell fastball and hit it about as far as a human being could possibly hit a baseball. Like, FAR.

Check out this screengrab taken as the ball was clearing the batter’s eye wall in center:

At that exact moment — the ball was already on the parking lot side of the flagpole. Now we already know the distance to straightaway center at McKechnie Field is 400 ft. by that handy little number they have stamped on the outfield wall. So if you calculate that wall as being at least 10 ft. tall, the giant green batter’s eye being 30 ft. higher than that, and the height of the ball when it enters its descent is around 55 ft…

OMG THAT BALL WAS HIT 815 FT.!*

During last night’s Phillies/Padres game, Brian Giles attempted to catch a foul ball and practically re-created the famous Rodney McCray wall crash in front of a nationwide audience on ESPN. As Jayson Werth’s fly ball was carrying towards the right field wall, Giles gave chase and made a noble effort for the catch, but wound up barreling through the Welk Resorts advert in foul territory. Thankfully, Giles stayed in the game and proceeded to go 0-4.
