Young Phillies Fan Instructs The Crowd When To Cheer

For my own personal enjoyment, I think I’ve watched well over 200 total YouTube videos of the World Series celebration and/or victory parade. While most are horribly filmed wastes of time, there are some gems in there if you’re patient enough.
Take this one for example…
A young Phillies fan — I’d imagine he’s about 2½ — stood on the sidewalk of Broad St. near City Hall to get his picture taken. But when he raised his arms, the crowd around him erupted like he was the commander of cheering. With the little guy sensing he had an entire city block eating out of the palm of his hands, he tried to see how long he could keep ‘em going. Enjoy perhaps the coolest thing you’ll see all day:

Who is this whale she speaks of? Jimmy Williams? Brett Myers? Matt Stairs? Gasp! Uncle Cholly?

This made my day.

I’m a nanny, and I’ve always said the single greatest perk of my job is that I get to give the little angels back at the end of the day, which I think proves that my biological clock came complete with an extension cord and battery back-up. That said, I think my ovaries just skipped a beat when I watched that.
My profession has also made me fluent in Toddlerese and Besottedmomlish, and I think the voice in the video is not referring to Jimy Williams, Brett Myers, Matt Stairs, Uncle Cholly, or even Mick Billmeyer. I think what she’s saying is: “How big is Will?”

@Tartan69: Fantastic avatar, sir.
@Lynniemac: You are correct, ma’am. The young boy’s name is indeed Will.

I should have turned up hearing aid. But I think it’s funnier if the word was whale. Am I right people?

@theRev: You aren’t the only one who heard “whale”. I sent this clip to my dad who responded with: “Who the hell teaches their kid “how big is a whale?” For that matter, who teaches their kid “how big is… [insert name]?” The ONLY appropriate way to generate that response in a child is to yell “TOUCHDOWN!!!!” It worked for you.”

Laugh now, but this is exactly how Mussolini got started.
Nah, that’s a cute kid. I’d be right there cheering with the rest of the lemmings.

I’m the mother of the kid in the video. He’s 17 months old and the voice is mine saying “How big is Will?” It all started when I asked him that to get him to look excited for a simple picture and the crowd went wild. It’s been great to see how this video has made so many people smile. And…. really? WHALE?

And a child shall lead them… in cheering, apparently.

That was great, reminds of the toddler they caught on the jumbotron at CBP waving his t-shirt for a rally. Every time they shot to him, the bank went nuts. And people say we’re horrible fans!
