Tomorrow is “Charlie Manuel Day” in Buena Vista, Va.

via Ken Mendal over at Phillies.com:

Charlie Manuel already had his day, when he managed the Phillies to a World Series championship.

Now, he’s going to have “Charlie Manuel Day,” as it will be proclaimed Saturday by J. Mikel Clements, the mayor of the town of Buena Vista, Va., where Manuel grew up.

At a banquet that night, the No. 32 Manuel wore at Parry McCluer High School will be retired [Ed. Note: You hear that, Mitchell & Ness?], and a new LED sign declaring Buena Vista as the “home of Charlie Manuel, the Manager of the World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies,” will be unveiled.

That sign will be placed at the entrance of the small Virginia town [...]

I’m begging anybody within a 50-mile radius of Buena Vista, Va. to show up at the banquet and take a shitload of pictures of the ceremony, his old jersey, and especially that sign.

And if you don’t think I’m transferring that sign onto a T-Shirt and selling them, you’re out of your freakin’ mind.

I, personally, will celebrate the day by breaking out my newly shipped Charlie Manuel jersey for the first time.

I went to college in Lexington, VA, right next door to Buena Vista. Right now they’ve got a small wooden sign on the side of the road into town. Can’t wait to see what the new one looks like, and I wish I could be back in BV for the ceremony.
