The Most Important World Series Prediction Ever
Posted by meech.one at 2:16 pm ET 20 Comments

Okay, I’m gonna make this short and sweet. I have approximately two hours to kill here at work before I speed home on I-95, pack my Jansport and head down the shore to watch Game 1. Then, I’m gonna squeeze in a few hours sleep and drive to the Atlantic City airport where my flight to Tampa awaits.

As you can probably figure out, I’m a bit anxious to get this fucking thing going.

Now, many people have asked me over the past few days, “Hey meech — you’re the expert Phillies blogger, who do you honestly think is gonna win this series?” That’s when I reply, “I’m far from an expert. I basically just rip videos and throw up pictures of Sarge Matthews hats, but thanks for the compliment.”

“So you still didn’t answer my question,” they say. Well, if you really wanna know…

I’ll spare you the statistical rhetoric that has absolutely no bearing on the outcome of this series. You motherfuckers with your stats are no help to us here. When a player has a good week or two, they proclaim, “Small sample size! Not enough information!” Well guess what? The World Series is about as small a sample size as you can get, and this is the one that determines who will be crowned champion of Major League Baseball. So if (and when) Carlos Ruiz drives in more runs this series than he did all of July (which was 1 RBI, btw) your “fluke” talk is rendered moot. Nobody will care.

Alls I know is, the Philadelphia Phillies have lost a grand total of 7 games (2 in the ‘offs) in the past forty-one calendar days and I just can’t imagine how they could lose 4 in the next eight.

Listen, I’m not underestimating the Tampa Bay Rays or anything. They’ve had one helluva year. In what some people consider to be the hardest division in baseball, they have out-slugged, out-pitched, out-defensed (?) and flat out out-played their higher payroll counterparts for the better part of seven months. And I commend them for that. But in this bloggers humble opinion, they shot their collective load already. Their performance against the under-manned Red Sox was admirable, but if folks like B.J. Upton continue hitting home runs at a torrid pace like he’s doing, I’ll eat my fucking hat. It’s just not possible to keep up that level of play throughout the playoffs. Besides, I think I read him & Longoria did most of their damage in the first 3 innings of those games. And, as you may know, most of my information comes from things I think I’ve read. Keep ‘em off the board early and it’s smooth sailing from there.

On the other hand, we have the Phillies. I need not go into detail about these guys because I’m sure if you’re reading this, you’re a fan of The Fightins, and have been good loyal followers since Spring Training. Well, something just feels right about this team. Any time it looked grim for our red-pinstriped crew, they turned it around with the quickness and did what they had to do to survive. Which was win games. They are accustomed to winning now, and will continue to do so until there aren’t any games left to play.

I’m confident. I’m expecting them to win. I’m… dare I say? Cocksure.

Oh yeah, you need a prediction:

The Phillies will win both games in Tampa, come back here and finish the Devil-less team off in 5 games. Your MVP will be Big Brown.

This is our fucking year.

Side note: Because of my exhaustive travel plans the next couple of days, I’m really not sure how much blogging I’ll be able to do. But fear not readers, Chamo and the ‘Tard should be able to hold you over until I return. I’m bringing my laptop with me, though, so I may be able to get some shit up in between victory celebrations. Go Fightins’.

  8. Paul Says:

  9. Mark Says:

I was just on my way here to leave a comment about how pysched I am to get out of this office and get a beer in my hand and watch cole hamels rip shit up. Oh god damn, this is going to be an amazing week. I feel if we win at least 1 in the trop, this series is ours. If we win game 1, .500 baseball till the end will bring philly a champion. Just as meech said, I don’t see this team losing 4 of its next 7. LETS GO FIGHTINS!

  10. John B. Says:

LETSSSS DO THIS…. I can’t wait to get out of work

  11. Mark Says:

According to a rumor floating around, WIP just said Coste is DH tonight. But it’s WIP and even worse its a rumor about something WIP said. So it’s bound to be false.

  12. MP Says:

Coste is going to be DH tonight.

I think it’s Phils in 6. I think we take one at the Trop. They take one here. And then we win in Game 6 in their house.

  13. Andrea Says:

Meech, this predicition and write up just pumped me up even more. I agree with Doug, split in FL and come home to sweep it up in Philly.

Let’s take this all the way to Broad Street!!!

  14. Brian Hall Says:

I just got done packing my shit for Tampa, gotta meet up with Meech in a hour and start drinking. I’m so sick of people picking Tampa because they beat the Red Sox B team. This series is going 5 or 7 and I think we win either way. We have to win a championship sooner or later right? I’m going with Rollins for MVP. By the way I just heard Lieberthal and Michael Born pick Tampa on Xm. What kinda shot is that?

  15. The Juggernaut Says:

I would like to thank Michael Bourn for not being able to hit. So that the Phils have one of the best closers in the game now. Thank you. Phils in 6. They win this town will implode. In a good way of course.

  16. sdk Says:

I love the fact that most dipshit analysts are still giving our Fightins’ no love. The week layoff doesn’t mean shit. This years fleet of Phils are more focused then ever. The talent has been there for years. Mr. Gillick added the final pieces to the puzzle that *IS* the motherfucking 2008 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS.

    Fightins in 5.

    It just sounds right.

  17. CardiffGiant Says:

The last time there was a 0 and an 8 in the year of a World Series was 1980. So suck it Tampa, and while you’re at it shove them fuckin’ cowbells up your ass! Konichiwa Bitches! The Fightins’ in 5

  18. Mark Says:

    WHY CANT US?!?!?

  19. vendor71 Says:

LET’S GO PHILS! WE GOT YA COVERED DOWN HERE IN AUSTIN! PHILS IN 5 WITH A MYERS WIN TONIGHT!

  20. Steve Says:

“So if (and when) Carlos Ruiz drives in more runs this series than he did all of July (which was 1 RBI, btw)”

3 so far by my count, 2 huge ones tonight (last night? this morning?)
