Scenes From An NLDS Game 1: Troy Tulowitzki Tags The Taint

For years to come, most Phillies fans will remember Game 1 of the 2009 NLDS as Cliff Lee’s triumphant postseason debut in which he scattered six hits while allowing one measly run (and stealing a base!) en route to a 5-1 Phillies victory in front of the largest crowd in CBP history.
But *I’ll* always remember it as the game that Troy Tulowitzki tried to pick Lee off at second by slapping his taint with the ball. Second base ump Jerry Meals was so fascinated by the play (turned on?) that he didn’t realize Cliff Lee was actually out by a step-and-a-half and botched the call.
THAT, my friends, is the power of the taint tag.

Literally, stroked his balls as he came in to land.

How rude.

Probably didn’t even buy him dinner either before or after. Tulowitzki is an insensitive jerk.

We laughed our ass off in the dugout.

That’s what I like to see, Cole. This team is so locked in it’s got a collective “ass”. Playoff mentality.

How brutal was TBS yesterday? Could they get a worst group of analysts to join EJ before the game. I would’ve preferred they just used Charles and Kenny and let them talk baseball. And don’t even get me started on their pitch trax shit. Absolutely an amateur hour performance yesterday that almost had me longing for Tim McCarver and Dick Stockton.

@ Hey-Zeus – Franzke & LA were superb on 1210. It’s actually more enjoyable to listen to them than to see what’s going on and suffer through TBS.
The only downside is Taint McCarthy and Taint Wheeler call innings 4-6, & tha taint good.

meech this requires a “Gooch” tag. I’ve been waiting for that tag to be used more than once.

Does this tag remind anyone of the Longoria tag on Rollins I believe in game 5.1 last year?

My God, they crowbar’d Mac and “Aw, Jeez” in between L.A. and Franske’s broadcast?
LEAVE FRANSKE ALONE!!!

It’s an atrocity, James. Suffering through 3 innings of T-Bags & muffin (long innings, mind you) was absolute torture. To no one’s surprise, they did manage to squeeze in at least 1 Majestic Clubhouse mention. There may have been more that I tuned out.

I think I’m calling to start calling them “Mac and Jeez.”

Bravo, James.
