Sarge Matthews Hat Giveaway!
Posted by meech.one at 10:34 pm ET 6 Comments

Okay, so, technically, the Phillies are calling this promotion “Chevrolet Father’s Appreciation Day Bucket Hat Giveaway” — but they can’t fool me. I think we all know who inspired this freebie.

The fashionable Indiana Jones-style hat will be the featured swag on Father’s Day, Sunday June 21st vs. the Baltimore Orioles.  Please adjust your ticket-buying schedule accordingly.

After the jump, I embedded the audio of a Sarge Matthews interview from 610 WIP where he was a guest on the practically unlistenable Howard Eskin Show last Friday…

I debated on whether or not to even post this because Eskin is so damn annoying, but in the end, I think it’s worth it to hear Sarge’s voice again.  He talks some Phillies (obviously), steroids in baseball (not as boring as it sounds because he gives insight from when his son was busted), if it’s possible to repeat as champs, and lastly, Sarge mentions he doesn’t know how to swim.

Enjoy:

To be honest.. I couldn’t stand sarge his first season (2007) but after the final 2 weeks with the mets collapse, etc. he grew on me with his genuine joy. he has bumped up from my least favorite announcer in the phils booth to second from last (in front of McCarthy)
