Sarge was back in his hometown of Chicago as the Phillies took on the Cubs in the friendly confines tonight. And for the second time in as many years, he brought his grandson Denver up to the booth and belted out the seventh inning stretch classic, “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” in front of a sold out Wrigley Field.
Needless to say, it was a rousing success, and Denver might be the cutest friggin’ kid I have ever seen.

Not to sound really cheesy, but things like this are some of the biggest reasons why I love Baseball more than any other sport. A grandfather sharing a Ballgame with his grandson is just awesome.

Denver made my heart melt.
My biological clock might have started ticking tonight. GAH.

I’m not sure I’m a big fan of MY announcer singing for an opponent’s fans. I don’t think you’d ever catch Bob Uecker singing “High Hopes” to the Phillies fans…

Awesomeness.

Gaze, he’s from Chicago, he played for Chicago, he wore his BIG Phillies WFC ring, and he didn’t even say “Cubbies” — he let the crowd say it.
I don’t think you can possible bust his balls about that.

Almost washes the brad lidge bitterness out of my mouth. Almost.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Yeah, agreed. Sarge was completely diplomatic about not saying either team during the song. Besides, we here in Philly know which team Sarge is pulling for.

Amaro just signed Denver to a two-year extension!
August 11th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
He did it last year… that was homage to his Chicago roots. Does he really need to make this an annual event? I don’t like sharing my announcers!

I wonder if Moyer will sing that tomorrow since he retired. Oh wait, he didn’t yet.

why are they always talking about sarges whole family in atlanta?
August 12th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Denver makes me like Sarge a little bit more now…

0:13 bottom left. Why is Bill Cowher there?

I KNEW this would be on here. I swear this is my favorite little corner of the interweb.

First off, CSN chicago blows away Philly CSN..
I watched CSN chicago on AFN here in the sand, and they show on average a hot chick every 3 minutes on the broadcast. Its the greatest thing ever.
Also, Denver was cracking me up… he watched himself on the tv screen during sarge’s interview, and was doing fist pumps….. kid is funny

Gaze, Sarge was on the 1984 Cubs that won the division which is practically like being a World Series champ in Cubs’ fans eyes (not an insult either, I mean, really, what else could you compare it to?) They LOVE him there. Let him and his grandson sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game. It’s no big deal. In fact, it’s awesome.

Rudy, that is Bob Brenly
August 12th, 2009 at 7:13 am
@Gaze I may be mistake but I am almost certain that bob uecker has actually done this before. HK I know belted out the words there before. So as your preschool teacher probably said to you sharing is caring.

FWIW, Harry sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” the last time I was at Wrigley. It’s not even remotely unusual.
and scrapple joe is right, Comcast Chicago was Cheesecake City with the crowd shots last night, including some in Phillies gear.

hnnngggg, my “I Listen to Sarge” shirt cannot arrive soon enough!
August 12th, 2009 at 11:13 am
I’m with you guys. I actually like the cubs tv broadcasters better than ours. That’s why I’m watching Len and Bob tonight on WGN, while rooting for the Phils.
I’m disappointed Sarge didn’t sing, “Take me out to the ballgame and out with the crowd AS WELL.”

I love CSN Philly. Mainly for Daily News Live, Michael Barkann, Phillies Post-Game Live, and Eagles Post-Game Live.
Sure T-Mac and Wheels know how to push my buttons, but they can be muted.
August 12th, 2009 at 11:56 am
I am upset that Sarge did not deliver my favorite line after the post game interview.
He said, “Back to you Tom…..Wheels.”
WHERE WAS MY MUFF?
August 12th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Sarge deserved to treat himself to some ribs after that
August 12th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Or at least some chicken. You can’t go wrong with chicken
August 12th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Hey meech, how bout an “I listen to Denver” shirt, too? Just make sure you can’t be mixed up with a John Denver fan.
August 12th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Swift, I agree with your first comment. As much as I didn’t care about the Red Sawks winning, there was a great commercial afterwards-when a father brought his son to a game, and then they got older, and there was a grandson, and they were all cheering, and then they got older, and there may have been 4 by the commercial was over-but I remember the group all celebrating the Series victory. It was just a great commercial.
As for Sarge singing-not nearly as good as Mr. T-”3 Strikes You Out!”

i would love to see Sarge singing “take me out to the ballgame” at home games.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:26 am
If only sarge could have worked “cadillac” or “slidepiece” into the song…
