Just went from 6 to 12!
December 16th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
These words were just uttered:
“The biggest factor was that I just wanted to win, and that’s why I wanted to be here.”
Remember this….we have been waiting a long time for an elite player to say that about the Fightins.
December 16th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
remember when they said pitchers will never come to philly because of our ballpark

December 16th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
I don’t get it, why couldn’t we keep Cliff Lee? And why can’t we hit with RISP?
December 16th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
So Roy uses the royal “we”? I kinda dig it.

December 16th, 2009 at 6:18 pm

December 16th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Trust. Ruben, Montgomery. Those fuckers have earned it.
Proud of our boys.
GO PHILS.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
If you mean the “Royal we” like a cuckold.
I heard la policia found naked pictures of some low A rookie ball guys on Clifton’s computer and they had to get him out of town before the story broke.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
ALRIGHT TIME’S UP…LET’S DO THIS! LEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOY HAAAAAAAALLLAAAADAAAAAAY!
December 16th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Impressed with him thanking his family, by name, for agreeing to move FOR him. Maybe it’s me, but I wish more athletes like him would be humble enough to recognize that and be thankful for it.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Oh, and BigMiles is right, I have waited a long time to have the team I’ve grown up defending to be a becon for winning.
Oh, and I haven’t heard, will there be “Happy Halladays” t shirts available, with rush shipment, to buy and get before Christmas? Even if Christmas has come a week and two days early?
December 16th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Tug, that chick is hott.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
LOL we had exactly 34 for comments for a short while there. Welcome to Philly, Leroy!

@Eric (from the last topic)
The nature of a fan is to second guess the job of the players and management. If all we did was nod our head in agreement, this site wouldn’t exist. If asking a thought provoking question insinuates that I’m not pleased with the deal then you are mistaken
You’ll notice that when Jayson Stark asked my question during the press conference, Ruben quickly deflected the topic away and never answered the issue of the timing of this Lee deal. One school of thought I’ve now heard is that keeping Lee for another week or two while searching for other potential suitors would have given the fan base a false hope. As much as trading Lee away hurts today, people would be outraged if they did so weeks before spring training. You’ll also notice that Ruben clearly stated that he wasn’t sure if a potentially better offer for Lee could have been had. That sounds like something I would probably want to be sure of before pulling the trigger.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
@Gaze – Fine. Ruben comes out tomorrow and says “well, we actually had a better offer from the Yankees and Mets.. actually both offers blew Seattle out of the water. We did not want to go in that direction with those teams.” Or I can make it easier.. “well, the Rangers had a better offer but we liked Seattle better!” Ok, that happens. What the fuck do we do then? How is that helpful to us? Then we boycott the Phillies and never trust anybody again? I understand your point, but how would it help anything? This shit is done, move on with all the “what ifs.” If your in the business to constantly second guess everything the organization does, you’re going to get stuck in the mud. Just enjoy it man.
December 16th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
I’m actually more interested in whether or not the shopping actually happened. Why does it have to help anything? Why can’t I just be curious?
December 16th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Gaze, one thing that became clear during the press conference is that you can tell when Rube is lying. Or, I could tell.
December 16th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Anyone see Roy- on Sixers broadcast??? He HAD The beard… I’m not shitting you- it was there, just like last Srptember… Somebody please- pull that tape.. Happens about 2:00 left in 1stQ.. Interview with that very attractive Jamie Maggio… Compare the picture above- to the screen grab.. And prepare for your mind to be BLOWN….
December 16th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
this is an outrage. sure we got the best pitcher in baseball. but we gave up lee and drabek! drabek will be amazing pitcher in 2+ years. and we could of gotten 2 first rounds picks for lee. good job ruben!
December 16th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
@Gaze
I completely agree. I’m not bashing whats happened at all in fact im happy as hell, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be curious about the process of sending away Cliff Lee. Someone did ask that exact question during the press conference and I’m interested to see if he answered it afterward. Eric, you couldn’t be coming off as more of an ass with all your posts so relax. We can enjoy this and wonder about how it all went down at the same time.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
To the people who think they didn’t get enough back for Lee:
Perhaps Amaro wanted to do both deals at the same time to avoid a situation where – he’s is trying to deal Lee and every other GM knows he will have to eventually agree to something. Know what I mean, like they’d have a bit of an edge there.
Also these guys Aumont and Gilles might be better than you think.
…just a bit of speculation.
(and it was obviously a good move trading Lee to the AL.)

I’m sad to see Roy leave Toroto, but I am also glad to know he might have a chance at the series for once
