Won’t somebody please think of the prospects?!
While the entire Phillies fanbase was gearing up for the impending Roy Halladay trade, CSNPhilly’s resident minor league writer Kevin Czerwinsk was busy checking in with some of the potential trade pieces that have never played a game in the majors.
Check out what Kyle Drabek, Domonic Brown, and Travis d’Arnaud had to say:

Kyle Drabek:
“I’m not sure they would [call to say you’re not getting traded], but if they did I would be thankful,” Drabek said. “If they ended up doing that, it would say a lot that they don’t want to get rid of me. But you have me and Brown at Double-A and Michael Taylor at Triple-A, and this is Roy Halladay, one of the best pitchers in the Majors. It’s kind of amazing to be talked about with him.”
“I paid a little attention to it in July but it was on [TV] all the time and my teammates were all around me talking about it,” Drabek said. “Right now it’s a little easier to not think about it.”

Dom Brown:
“I really don’t know what’s going on,” Brown said. “I’m just happy to be mentioned in this. Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee and I are mentioned in a deal. That’s really great. I want to play at Citizen’s Bank Park but things happen and this is a business.
“A lot of people say that [they don’t want to trade us]. But like I said, this is a business. A guy with the stature of Roy Halladay, that’s a big-time name and I haven’t done anything yet. You never know what will happen. I was looking to be a Phillie and hopefully I will be a Phillie but this is business. I’m just not trying to get overwhelmed by the situation.”
“I had a great time there and a great experience but I didn’t do as well as I thought I should have,” Brown said. “I started off hot and I think I kind of just got tired at the end. That’s not going to happen to me again, getting tired. I’m going to work had and prepare myself this off-season. We’ll see what happens over the next few days with this trade.”

Travis d’Arnaud:
“I’m just kind of trying to figure out what’s going on,” said d’Arnaud, who was the 37th pick in the 2007 draft and is considered to be Philadelphia’s top catching prospect. “I’m pretty excited about it. Whatever gets me up there faster [to the Major Leagues]. If I can get up there faster with Toronto, than I am excited about it.
“I’m surprised and shocked about that this is going on. I just play ball and try to have fun. I don’t ever think about who is watching me.”
And last, but certainly not least, Scott Lauber spoke with Cliff Lee’s wife Kristen about the deal:
“Obviously, something’s going on,” Kristen Lee said by phone tonight from Arkansas. “I’m shocked, and I’d be really sad. But it’s baseball.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — you can’t get anything past Kristen Lee.

Tradable.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:11 am
So… no?
December 15th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Is that Ricky Vaughn there at the bottom?
December 15th, 2009 at 12:26 am
can we just that the Phillies must be doing something right?
Drabek and Brown really sound like they wanna be Phils….
December 15th, 2009 at 12:32 am
1.) “Won’t somebody please think of the prospects?!”
… sounds like a simpsons refrence to me.
2.) Travis: nice glasses, douche.
3.) we honestly can’t lose on this trade. EVEN IF Drabek & Taylor are involved. Pull the trigger already, get them extra dollars and get a reliever already.

Mrs. Cliff Lee = Snookie in blonde.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:40 am
I fucking love Snookie.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:14 am
Those comments from the Minor Leaguers and Cliff Lee’s wife really break my heart
Most of them sound truly saddened that they may be traded away
December 15th, 2009 at 1:16 am
Why do I have this fear in the back of my head that Halladay will start to suck the second he comes here, while Cliff Lee goes on to become the best pitcher in baseball?
Maybe it’s just Phillies fan pessimism…
December 15th, 2009 at 2:08 am
while i trust in Ruben’s dealings, i am left thinking….
What didnt Lee prove in 2009?
The spiked curve made me want to pitch, the last thing i want to see is cliff lee on an oposing teams mound come october 2010
December 15th, 2009 at 2:32 am
It’s not at all about what Lee has or hasn’t proven. No one will deny he’s an elite talent. Halladay just happens to be better and cheaper.
December 15th, 2009 at 3:34 am
I wish we wouldn’t lose Drabek or Taylor, but hopefully these Seattle prospects can fill that hole.
BTW Thanks for using my picture of Domonic =)
December 15th, 2009 at 8:17 am
Kristen Lee is the one who wanted the CC $$$. So Rube got in Lee’s ass and traded him away. 1 ball kruk said it best if you don’t want to be with a 1st class organization were shipping you the f*ck out.. Halladay will own Philly this summer
December 15th, 2009 at 8:33 am
we got lackey right?
December 15th, 2009 at 8:37 am
Dear Mrs. Lee,
Your husband would not be the subject of trade talk right now were it not for the fact that he/his agent/you want a Sabathia contract. THAT is baseball. So stop being sad and enjoy Seattle. I hear the weather is lovely.
Your friend,
Lynniemac

Seeing how this deal has pretty much been broken down to two separate deals at this point, could Ruben possibly land Halladay for prospects and then take a 2nd look at the books and realize he doesn’t need to trade Lee? Or could he potentially shop Lee to another team for some significant bullpen help?
December 15th, 2009 at 9:27 am
@ Wrecked Em Says which 1 is mrs lee???????????????????
December 15th, 2009 at 9:28 am
I’m not Wrecked Em, but top row, far right. Bottom row, far left is Jason Michaels’ wife, btw.

brilliant, sir.. brilliant
December 15th, 2009 at 10:25 am
hard-throwing righthander Phillippe Aumont, Seattle’s No. 1 draft choice in 2007.
some bullpen help?
December 15th, 2009 at 10:29 am
I’m not sure Aumont is ready for the majors yet. His BB/9 is a bit worrying. Definite high potential though, if he stays healthy.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:41 am
The playoffs are too tough to predict for any reason, but lets say if the phillies win the NL east and Doc Halladay wins the cy young will people embrace this trade?
December 15th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Calling my perverbial shot right now.
Lee wins the AL Cy Young.
…Halladay wins the NL Cy Young.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Is perverbial like some perverted proverb or what
December 15th, 2009 at 10:46 am
It’s as pretentious as the word pertentious.
Also, as they say in the fashion world, Harry Leroy Halladay is the new Clifton Phifer Lee.
They don’t say that in the fashion world.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:49 am
FYI fuckers, next 5 people to follow me on Twitter (@meechone) have a chance at winning free Birdland shit. Don’t delay!
December 15th, 2009 at 10:50 am
I want to go on record saying that I love this deal so I don’t have to eat crow later!
December 15th, 2009 at 10:52 am
After sleeping on it this makes less sense to me. Seattle isn’t involved with Toronto at all as part of this Halladay deal. So if the real intent behind dealing Lee to Seattle is clearing $9 million worth of salary, dump Joe Blanton off somewhere for next-to-nothing, and tell the Mariners to go fuck themselves. Drabek, D’Arnaud, and Taylor for Halladay is a perfectly fine trade. I have no problem with that. But Gillies, Aumont, and Ramirez is a lousy return for Cliff Lee. Unless there is something linking these two deals besides money (which you could solve by getting rid of Blanton) I don’t get it. Thrilled to have Doc though.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:53 am
prospects are nothing but prospects and although its sad to see them go we got a thoroughbred horse for 4 years, who was 18-6 lifetime against the yankees and 17-10 last year in the al east.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Yeah like I said, I’ll drive those dudes to Toronto myself. That’s a fine deal for Halladay. The Mariners deal is pretty much shit though.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:55 am
And were getting 6 mil from toronto apparently.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Free Birdland attire was enough to finally get me to join Twitter!
December 15th, 2009 at 11:09 am
So long-term it sounds like Ramirez is similar to Knapp, Taylor/Drabek are similar to Gillies/Aumont; So we effectively gave up Carrasco, Marson, Donald, & d’Arnauld for a post-season of Lee, 3-5 years of Halladay, and Francisco.
FANTASTIC DEAL!
December 15th, 2009 at 11:15 am
YEAAA RUUUUUBEN!!!!!!!!
December 15th, 2009 at 11:22 am
It’s a business.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:24 am
I’m calling a last minute hoodwink by Rube… As soon as the deal goes down with Halladay and cash for prospects, he nixes the deal with the Mariners for Lee. Then he can either shop Lee elsewhere or keep him for the year, offer him arbitration, then collect 2 draft picks when he skips town. Everybody wins! Rube gets his white whale and still gets high draft picks at the end of the year.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I’m totally gonna sleep with Roy Halladay.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Not if I get him first sweetie
December 15th, 2009 at 11:46 am
this trade is all fffffff uppp
December 15th, 2009 at 11:49 am
one thing that irritates me a bit is the facisnation with Drabek. Sure, we’ve all heard second hand that hes good.. but im willing to be 99% of phillies fans have seen Drabek pitch about as much as Phillippe Aumont.
also, im willing to bet Cliff’s agent ran him out of town all by himself. He either convinced Cliff to ‘not take a reasonable discount’ to stay with the phils or Cliff basically wants 20-25 mil per year no matter what team he players for. Either way, I blame his agent. Halladay will cost what.. 18 mil per year? and we’ll have him for 3-4 years. After replacing the prospects we lost to the Jays.. the Phillies got a better pitcher for less money as well as propsects that are said to be just as good as Taylor/Drabek.
Just a thought.. i loved Cliffs attitude/effort while he was here, but something must have happend during negotiations that made it possible to ship him out. I bet theres a lot more to this we dont know yet.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:59 am
$20 mil a year. Which is still a ridiculous bargain for Doc, especially for 3-5 years. The only part I disagree about is Aumont is not nearly as highly touted as Drabek, and there is no Taylor-like prospect in either composition or projectability in there.
But man, the Halladay element of this is a great deal.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Aumont would be rated just as good as Drabek if he wasn’t french canadian
December 15th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Are we there yet?
December 15th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Prospects.
Can we be real here for a second? No one cared about Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, Domonic Brown, or the catcher with the funny last name two years ago. It was all Jason Donald this, Carlos Carrasco that, Lou Marson blah, blah, blah. Last year though, no one blinked when they were traded to the Indians. Just as easily, players can come up the way Drabek and Taylor did last year and make you forget about the guys you were so high on the year before. If you say you have in-depth knowledge of the Phillies farm system or any farm system you’re either a loser or a liar.
I’ll happily take the Doc for four years and his 10 year track record that includes a Cy Young and six All-Star games all while pitching against some of the best hitters in the game.
Hell, I’m more stoked to see a full season of JA Haap than I am to see Kyle Drabek pitch like two years from now.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I wonder if anyone realizes that Cliff Lee’s career has been shakier than a Michael J Fox movie. Great move by Ruben.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
after not sleeping on it. im starting to like this.

December 15th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Yeah, and this year all you JA Happ lovers will get to see the real JA Happ. I like the kid, but he’s nowhere near as good as everyone thinks he is. Just wait. I hope he proves me wrong, but he’s a #4 starter at best.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I think if they can ship Joe Blanton out, then I think it’s possible to have Cliff Lee AND Roy Halladay. They can then do a straight trade with Blue Jays and leave the Mariners out of it.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
your a little late maria
December 15th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
@ Gaze … I agree. With Lackey off the table, there are no marquee pitching names left. We now hold all the bargaining power. Lee to the Angels perhaps, or a better lot of prospects from the Mariners.
December 15th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
will.H: FWIW, I’ve seen Drabek pitch. Yes, prospects don’t always meet their potential (like, most of the time), but that said, it’s a shame to see him go.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
I don’t understand why people are complaining about the Lee deal. We’re getting a guy who is projected as a number 1 starter, and Ramirez is said to have #2 stuff…plus we get Gillies, who is no Michael Taylor, but he’s a pretty good prospect.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
ESPN.com’s Buster Olney is reporting that the Phillies are talking with the A’s about sending top prospect Michael Taylor to the Athletics for top prospect Brett Wallace.
Oh?
December 15th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
dont you mean the Jays JB?
December 15th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Only if we’re trading Taylor for Wallace and then sending him to to Jays?
December 15th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Eh, nevermind. My head hurts.
Olney: It’s all moving fast: As soon as Halladay deal is done, the Jays are going to trade Michael Taylor to Oakland for Brett Wallace.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I heard the Jays were going to trade Taylor to the A’s for Brett Wallace.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I have a hunch that the A’s are going to trade top prospect Brett Wallace to the Jays for Michael Taylor. Just a hunch.
December 15th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Hey, did anyone hear about Taylor being traded for Wallace?
December 15th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
ugh… every damn MINUTE something new is reported!

PASS THE ROLAIDS

December 15th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
@Matt
Scouts seem to be saying that Aumont translates to a closer, not a #1 starter. Which is arguably more important to this club right now than another starter…
December 15th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Drabek will be eaten ALIVE in the AL EAST
December 15th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Drabek will become the second coming of Koufax, and we won’t have him!
December 15th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Aumont doesn’t have the durability to start, and he’s no Drabek.
Also Blanton would have to be unloaded for basically nothing. He has very little value as a trade commodity.
December 15th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Saw a picture of Kristen Lee and it looks like you can’t get a cheeseburger by her either.
December 15th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Are the Phillies done with their Halladay shopping?
Get it everyone? I said “Halladay” and it’s right near Christmas-time.
LOL! I crack myself up.
Happy Halladay’s everyone! I can’t believe no one has thought of this play on words yet. Go me!
December 15th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
lynnie i know you were attached to him having seen him play.. i would be too. Thats why i dont love the idea of shopping guys like vic or werth.. im just glad they get shipped out (drabek, taylor) before i have a chance to become loyal to them. I just keep telling myself that Roy Halladay is one of the three best pitchers on this planet.
December 15th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
It was more than merely seeing him play – I also got to see Domonic Brown’s first R-Phils homerun that was hit so hard it bounced onto Route 61, and I feel kinda meh about him leaving. I know that pitching prospects are generally even more hit or miss than position players, but there just seemed to be something about Drabek. Hopefully, I’m as right about him as I have been about others. Which is not at all.
December 15th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Roy Halladay will be the best Phillies pitcher since ME!
RITE GUIZ?
December 15th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Okay so who’s our top catching prospect now? Sebastian Valle?
December 15th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Nah, our top pitching prospect is Will Eaton…Adam’s younger brother!
December 15th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Anyone got a picture of Mrs. Halladay. I bet she’s got big tits.
December 15th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
