I’m not even gonna say that david eckstein is a bad player, but why the fuck do people always bring his name up when they talk about “tough, hard-working players that hustle.” really? you can’t name any “scrappy” player better than david eckstein? how about chase utley? i guess what people really mean is a “scrappy player with shitty numbers”

Right Shaggy, Eckstein is no good. He just happened to play the toughest defensive position and hit .293 in 152 games in 2002 on a team that coincidentally won the World Series. By fluke he hit .292 in 2006 and was the World Series MVP on a team that through pure luck took out the Tigers in 5 games. It’s only through the craziest luck and complete lack of skill that he’s an all-star career .293 hitter with a .979 fielding percentage.

Scutaro’s nickname during his Oakland days was, I shit you not, The Magical Man-Elf. Mostly for his knack of clutch hitting, which was also just about the only time he did any hitting out there. Having a hell of a year for the Jays, though; would love to see him make the All-Star Game on general principles.

Great job on the animated gif, guys! Now I can relive this play over and over and over. The Jays commentators were also stunned by the play – they said it was like nothing they had ever seen before. I didn’t even know it was possible. Maybe the Phils will try it against the Jays next week in Toronto!
