ESPN senior writer and former beat writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jayson Stark, was on Sportscenter shortly after the passing of Harry Kalas to talk about the most distinctive voice in Philadelphia history. He summed it up perfectly in two sentences:
“Harry Kalas was baseball in Philadelphia for millions of people.
And the thought of watching Phillies games without that voice is unimaginable for me, and millions of other people who I know.”

I’ve been thinking of this moment a lot the last year or so, and how horrible it would be. Obviously as time goes on…well, we can all look at Harry’s birthdate and do the calculus, but I really didn’t appreciate how hard it would be to take.
God bless you, Harry.

Harry will never be replaced. Every game will be missing something from now on. Phillies fans won’t get over this quickly.

I think when Jayson ended with that comment about the enormous void, he said it best.
