Superstar Cy Young award-winning pitcher Roy Halladay was originally scheduled to pitch at The Bank tonight against Jamie Moyer. (Un?)Fortunately for the Phillies, Doc injured his groin pitching against the Marlins last Friday, so as a precaution, the Blue Jays have pushed his start back until Saturday at the earliest.
Charlie Manuel was asked about missing Roy’s start, and the Phils skip had a rather sarcastic response:
“That really makes me mad,” deadpanned Phils manager Charlie Manuel. “I was really looking forward to seeing him pitch.”
That’s all well and good, Charlie. If *I* were an opposing MLB manager I wouldn’t mind missing a Doc Halladay start either — BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FANS?!
Dead honest, I am mad the he won’t be pitching tonight. I was really looking forward to seeing him pitch. It’s not like a starter the caliber of Roy Halladay makes a guest appearance at your ballpark every other day, and chances are I’ll never get an opportunity to watch him in-person again. Plus, tonight was the night I was supposed to take advantage of the Phillies ‘Buy one get one free’ offer for this three game set against Toronto.
Forget it now, though. Since I don’t have work on Friday, I’ll just head down Thursday night and get even more drunkerer than I normally would. Because really, is there much of a difference between Casey Janssen and Scott Richmond? (Answer = no)

I actually do feel for you. There’s nothing quite like watching Doc plow throw a lineup. He’s masterful.
And there is a HUGE difference between Janssen and Richmond: Janssen kind of stinks, while Richmond is kind of good.
Go Jays.

It’s too bad he wont be starting tonight.
When the Doc is on his game, dude is masterful and it’s pretty much lights out for his opponents. It’s a shame we couldn’t surround him with a championship caliber team. The intensity and hard work he brings to game…if there’s anyone I would like to see win a championship, it’s him.
Toronto fans are enjoying every pitch he throws from the mound, because we know his contract is almost up. Dude is criminally underpaid right now, so we’re all preparing for the worst.
If he bounces to the Sox or the Evil Empire, no one in Toronto can be mad, because he gave his all to Toronto over the last decade.

I really wouldn’t mind seeing him pitch at the Bank either… in red pinstripes.

@Mike P, Amen brotha.
We need another starter soon. Too bad the Jays haven’t sucked enough this year that they’d be ready to tank the season and trade us their ace. In all honesty though, do they really think they might have a shot at the post season?

Meech, don’t forget, Thursday is a day game.

@Mr. Bryan: FUCK! Looks like me no go.

Best pitcher in baseball. Not just for what he does in innings 1-6, but the way he continues pitching and saves the bullpen. IIRC, he had 9 complete games last year which is more than Johan has in his entire career.
Plus he’s played his whole career in the toughest division in baseball.

I dont get this buy one get one free offer. The tickets were still 12 dollars a piece, that doesn’t sound like buy one get one free to me.

Mark:
Normal face for the BOGO tickets is $24.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
It’s really 50% off, but some marketing genius somewhere decided that “buy one get one free” sounds like a better deal than 1/2 off. If you buy an odd number of tickets, you still get them for half price.

Halladay is due to return from the DL next week when the Phillies are in Toronto.
You guys might see him after all.
