I wrote some stuff for places other than The Fightins last night and now that they are published, I figured I’d ask you nicely to head over to those sites and check out the finished product. That’s not a hard task, right?
In the first article, Dan Levy of the world-famous On The DL Podcast recruited a couple of bloggers — myself included — to participate in a cultural breakdown of sorts comparing New York & Philly. I didn’t have many words to work with, but I managed to name check Adam Eaton, get edited for using the word “titty”, offend the British, and have them put up a picture of Three 6 Mafia.
Exactly what I envisioned when I outlined it. Check it:
A World Series Cultural Breakdown | The Sporting Blog
Over at The Faster Times, Lisa Swan of Subway Squawkers interviewed myself and some highly respected Phillies bloggers about the Series and then our quotes were laid out in an easier to digest manner with attributions to each of us. And I must say, I sound a whole lot smarter when my quotes are put into story form on a professional-looking website.

We’ll have more stuff up until game time, but in case you ain’t know, you can follow The Fightins on Twitter:

21 out of 23 ESPN Baseball people picked the Yanks to win. No respect, I tell ya, no respect.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
I was watching First Take this morning (don’t judge me) and A. J. Pierzynski said the Phils have to play perfect baseball in order to win this series. Everyone doubts the Phillies but it’s only going to make it that much sweeter.

Speaking of everyone doubting the Phillies, I just happened upon the first real gem full of predictions, courtesy of ESPN’s “experts”. So much for the closely fought, evenly-matched epic we were promised, these guys just had to go and expertly spoil that the Yankees are entirely unbeatable.

I’m not sure which one it was, Muscles. I just walked in the room where they all were and started blowing.

Oh and for good measure, Sports Illustrated’s contribution to the expert picking department
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/10/28/world.series.experts.picks/index.html
So overall, that’s 35 predictions, with 3 favoring the Phillies. A little under 10 percent.
I love those odds.

Man, they can’t start this game soon enough. And that’s not just because I happen to be a Phillies fan, but because the World Series is such a fantastic part of fall and of the game. I have to admit over the last decade or so the seeming omnipresence of the Yankees or Red Sox combined with the horrificness of the Fox broadcast with Jeanne Zelasko and taco bell and skeeter have taken a lot of the luster off of the event for me. But the excitement of ‘08 and ‘09 have made me realize that, even without the Phillies, the World Series is still one of the best things about sports, no matter how much Fox tries to squeeze every dollar out of it.

@meech, Susan Finkelstein wishes it was that easy.
October 28th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Meech, how come you didn’t get on Rob for saying that the Phanatic was a rip off of Youppi! Now Youppi! is awesome and all, but he’s no Phanatic and infact, the Phanatic is older than Youppi! too. So if anything, Youppi! is a rip off of the Phanatic.

Who did Steve Phillips pick to win?
October 28th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Also, of those 21 ESPNers who picked the Yankees, a third of them chalked it up to Mariano Rivera. Seems like that’s putting a lot of eggs in one basket.
October 28th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Naming-checking Adam Eaton is much more fun when he is not the actual answer to the question.

This headline made me laugh – as Borat always does.
