Cole Hamels Attends The Modern Warfare 2 Global Debut
Posted by meech.one at 2:01 pm ET 199 Comments

Less than a week after the Phillies lost to the Yankees in the 2009 World Series, Cole Hamels was back in New York City with his buddies James Gandolfini and and Ice-T for the WORLD GLOBAL DEBUT of the new Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2. While he was there, he decided to speak to a guy with a microphone and a video camera, and then that guy edited the clip together with other clips of people (some famous, some not) talking about the game and then uploaded it to YouTube which is where I found it. Now, I’m embedding it on this site.

¡THE INTERNET!

If you’re impatient, FF to the :30 second mark for your boy Cole:

“If I can’t beat ‘em on the field, then hopefully I can beat them [in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 -- a video game].”

I bet he was on a snowmobile in Kazikstan.

  2. bigmyc Says:

OK. But I suggest he watches out for the scourge that is; random grenades.

  3. meech.one Says:

Cole’s such a pussy, I’d bet he uses the riot gear.

    VIDEO GAME JOKE!

  4. bigmyc Says:

Nice work on the podcast, M1.

    Meech = Anthony Gargano

    Anthony Gargano=Meech

    Hey, I like that guy.

  5. meech.one Says:

    What!? Don’t say that.

  6. Oliver Says:

I’m curious as to who Cole played with while they were in L.A.

I’d also like to see a deathmatch between Hairston and the Cole Train.

  7. w34p0nX20 Says:

anyone have Colbert’s gamertag so I can whoop his fuckin ass?

  8. Jdashdog Says:

    It’s PuPpYkIsSeS35

  9. bigmyc Says:

I guess I’ve been outta the Illadelph for a while..all yous guys are starting to sound alike. Heh heh.

If I didn’t know that was you, I would immediately have said, “now, there’s a guy from Philly.” Same with Cuz. For sure.

Nothing wrong with that. I like Cuz. Of course, I’ll admit that I’m stretching the comparison. I wouldn’t want you to wind up in the corner of your shower huddled into an emotionally devasted fetal-esque position.

  10. Luis A. Says:

Cole, focus on your pitching not on freaking Call of Duty

  11. KP Says:

    “PuPpYkIsSeS35″ HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  12. Gonzo Says:

    PuPpYkIsSeS35

+1 Jew Stars to you, Sir.

  13. Watrick Says:

Hey, if Cole touched a baseball now, he’d be 2 months ahead of last year’s schedule for getting back into his routine. You would think for a guy that loves his routine so much as to complain and bitch about a day game, he would have noticed his routine was changed from the 2008 winter.

  14. Luis A. Says:

    Illadelph Halflife, great album

  15. Luis A. Says:

Cole can’t be bitching about a day game against the Rockies and then do this shit

  16. Lynniemac Says:

I haven’t even watched the video and I want to tell Colbert not to speak. And I’m setting the over/under of “y’know”s at 10.

  17. Jdashdog Says:

Lynnie, he gave a good effort. I’m sure if his conversation was edited it would be wayyyy over.

  18. Jdashdog Says:

    *wasn’t edited

  19. Moon Shot Says:

if you want to beat up on brett myers in the offseason i heard his Xbox live name is ‘blueveinthrobber’

  20. Phylan Says:

Is Luis A. joking? Help me out here dudes

  21. Luis A. Says:

    Phylan, what did I do?

  22. Luis A. Says:

What, I am gonna get picked on?

  23. Jdashdog Says:

Yo Phylan – Jamie Moyer was on ESPN 950 radio yesterday. Said Cole got into trouble a lot this year because he lacked command on his fastball.

    Just sayin…

  24. Luis A. Says:

    *Am I

  25. Joe D Says:

I would pay good money to see Cole interact with Ice-T

  26. w34p0nX20 Says:

    JDash, you’re my hero lol

  27. Lynniemac Says:

Jdash: I agree, without editing it would be wayyyy over. Still, five in 30 seconds is pretty respectable.

  28. Amanda Says:

Just when I thought Cole would spend some time working out in the offseason getting ready for the season and not be on all those commercials. Now, he’ll be playing Call of Duty all off season.

  29. Phylan Says:

@JDash it’s possible he did, but even if you believe Jamie, there’s just no evidence that that was what hurt him. Like I said, if a lack of fastball command was causing him problems, wouldn’t you have expected the % of balls in the zone that batters hit to be higher than in 08? Or that his percentage of line drives surrendered would be higher? I would, but neither of those things were true.

  30. Luis A. Says:

This “joke” thinks Cole needs to prepare for next season as well instead playing Call of Duty

  31. Phylan Says:

@Luis A you’re seriously (I think) suggesting that Call of Duty 2 is going to distract Cole Hamels from pitching, that’s what I’m picking on you for. Same as all that commercial junk, as if he was the first one ever to do ads.

  32. Luis A. Says:

    @Phylan

I was just saying that for the hell of it. I don’t care if he plays video games, it’s none of my business. I know that Call of Duty probably won’t distract any ballplayer from doing what they’re supposed to be doing.

  33. Luis A. Says:

Don’t we all just say stuff for no reason?

  34. Phylan Says:

Oh OK, that’s why I was asking

  35. Watrick Says:

Phylan, not everyone who has done ads has done as bad, true, but it’s been reported that Cole didn’t even ATTEMPT to throw a baseball until at least January. My prediction is because he was busy doing all that other junk. It’s not that the other junk was what caused him to make your math equations to go a certain way, but the lack of something physically actually happening is what made him pitch poorly this year. I blame the blonde, really, for egging him on for all those things.

  36. Phylan Says:

I don’t think pitchers usually start throwing drills until January. Do they?

  37. Luis A. Says:

I vaguely meant to get on his preparation, not so much on his ads. I obviously did a bad job of that and sent the wrong message and for that I apologize (no scarcasm intended).

  38. Jdashdog Says:

Maybe, Phylan, maybe. But what are the stats on him getting behind in the count because he wasn’t throwing strikes? That’s what could get him into trouble.

  39. MATSUI KICKED YOUR ASSES Says:

It brings the biggest smile to my face to come here and find that you losers are talking about video games! hahahahahahah I guess that’s what happens when you lose the World Series! Nothing better to talk about, huh?

WFC = WE FUCKING CHOKED! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I hope the City of Philadelphia took notes last Friday. THAT’S HOW YOU DO A PARADE! Your shit was so weak last year. Let’s go down “Broad Street” and walk through the football field….yeah, that makes fucking sense. You assholes were fighting each other at the parade after you won. Face it Philly, you will ALWAYS be a second rate city with third rate fans.

    hhahahahahahahaha

    WE FUCKING CHOKED!
    WFC
    WE FUCKING CHOKED!
    WFC

    HAHAHAHAHAHA….

  40. will.H Says:

matsui, you’re still an emotionally weak little fella. no one hangs onto that much immaturity a week after the world series is over.

  41. Lynniemac Says:

So if the Phillies choked, that means the Yankees pretty much only won by default and not because of talent, ability, or execution. Huh. Matsui, I’m sorry you don’t feel better about your team. That’s a shame.

  42. KP Says:

Dude needs to get laid. Full of pent up frustration over nothing.

  43. Phylan Says:

@JDashdog What follows is the percentage of plate appearances in which Cole faced particular counts in 2008, then 2009:

    1-0: 6.2% / 5.5%
    2-0: 1.7% / 1.9%
    3-0: 1.6% / 0.9%
    3-1: 3.7% / 2.3%

  44. Jdashdog Says:

lol these people are so lame. Besides RR, who some of us grew fond of, I don’t think any of these trolls made one relevant point.

I agree though, Matsui is most certainly a major reason we lost. What NL has a professional hitter on their bench that can DH in the World Series? MLB needs to do something about that. It’s a distinct advantage for the AL.

  45. Jdashdog Says:

    Phylan, you’re good man.

  46. Phylan Says:

Nah Baseball-Reference.com is good, I just type fast

  47. Phylan Says:

Although something that would be interesting to do and maybe informative re: Cole is to compare how he did on certain counts in 2008 and in 2009, but I’m too lazy right now

  48. Jdashdog Says:

No problem, just have it on my desk by Monday.

  49. greenman! Says:

I really want Cole Hamels’ gamer tag or Brett Myers, it would be fun. I wonder if Jamie Moyer has an Xbox.

  50. dlhunter Says:

    @greenman!
Jamie Moyer doesn’t even have running water.

  51. Luis A. Says:

Bring the DH into the NL. Enough is enough in regards to the AL being the better league.

  52. BigMiles Says:

I don’t want a stinking DH in my league. They can keep it if they want but if it ever comes into the NL I will be pissed. In reality, we had three games at home without the series MVP in the starting lineup and we could only win one of them. Soooo……

  53. Luis A. Says:

the NL’s at a competitive disadvantage without the DH in my humble opinion

  54. Phylan Says:

I wouldn’t mind if the NL adopted DH, but I don’t see a need for it. The competitive imbalance between the two leagues isn’t really because of the DH.

  55. Luis A. Says:

the DH does certainly help the AL teams

  56. Luis A. Says:

the concept of pitchers hitting is so antiquated

  57. Phylan Says:

It necessitates an adjustment in stats for comparing players between leagues, but that’s easy enough to do. There have been stretches of NL superiority in the DH era, though.

  58. Luis A. Says:

there have been, but still, it makes lineups one bat deeper

  59. Lynniemac Says:

Please no DH in the NL. I have no desire to watch 4 hour games every night. Plus, I like that NL managers actually have to manage.

  60. Luis A. Says:

I know, but still, I don’t want to see pitchers try and fail to execute a bunt and then risk potentially getting hurt running the bases.

  61. Phylan Says:

Right but how is that an advantage? When NL teams play AL teams in the AL, they’re also one bat deeper, and vice versa.

  62. Luis A. Says:

AL has better bats equipped for that role of DH

  63. Luis A. Says:

AL teams usually have power hitters in that role as opposed to the NL who usually has the first guy off the bench

  64. Luis A. Says:

with the DH you’re able to rest a guy defensively, but still have his bat in the lineup

  65. Phylan Says:

Well 64. applies to NL teams as well when playing in an AL stadium. As far as 63. goes, I don’t think it makes a huge difference, given the small sample size of Interleague games played, and the fact that most DHs are older sluggers with declining skill (much like many NL bench players)

  66. Luis A. Says:

who would you rather have batting, Edgar Martinez or Al Leiter?

  67. Luis A. Says:

or Tony Tarasco in the case of bench players

  68. Luis A. Says:

I’m just saying, in my humble opinion, it would be great to rest guys defensively and still have their bats in the lineup in the NL.

  69. Phylan Says:

Well like I said I wouldn’t really mind a DH in the NL, I’m just saying it’s not why the AL has been the better league in the past few years

  70. Luis A. Says:

    I just like offense

  71. Luis A. Says:

it’s a big part of why the AL has won 12 of the last 18 WS

  72. Luis A. Says:

Lastly to those who disagree, agree to disagree. Goodnight.

  73. Phylan Says:

It is not at all, what on Earth are you talking about

  74. Jdashdog Says:

I’m late to the party – but on good AL teams the DH has an above average bat. On NL team whoever DH is generally not an everyday player, not accustomed to that role, and probably only an average hitter.

To be honest, I HATE the DH. I think that it takes too much strategy out of and prolongs games. As a matter of fact, maybe they should just do away with the WS too. We’re the best team in the National League the last two years and that’s all that matters. Interleague play is a joke. Homefield advantage in the WS being decided by the All-Star game is retarded. Bye.

  75. Lynniemac Says:

Eleven of the last eighteen World Series’ have featured an equal number of games played in both League’s parks. Of the seven that were lopsided, 5 had more games in the National League park, so I doubt very much that the use of the DH is a big part of the reason why the American League has won 12 of the last 18 World Series. As someone pointed out earlier, the Yankees played 3 games in a National League ballpark without their WS MVP DH in the lineup and won two of them.

  76. Phylan Says:

    Yeah. That. What Lynnie said.

  77. Luis A. Says:

Okay, the general consensus is I’m wrong. I knew this would happen, so whatever. I don’t care anymore, “the baseball experts” here win. Moving on. Goodnight.

  78. Luis A. Says:

    You’re right, I’m wrong

  79. Phylan Says:

Oh and JDash I agree re: the All Star game having anything to do with HFA but I don’t mind interleague too much

  80. Lynniemac Says:

Luis, it’s a difference of opinion, not a personal attack. Please relax.

  81. Alexander Rodriguez Says:

hey guys, I was out of town for the last few weeks. How did the World Series go for Philly this year?

  82. Pole Smokin Hamels Says:

    Dear Alex,

Welcome back. You missed a great World Series. The Yankees kicked ass and beat up on Pedro twice! Phillies gave a new meaning to “WFC” this year. Now it stands for “WE FUCKIN’ CHOKED!”

Ryan Howard sucked ass more than anyone in the history of the World Series. It was so funny watching him strike out 13 times. And it was great to watch Brad Lidge blow a game just like he did all season.

Ah, man. You missed a lot. But make sure you congratulate Philadelphia on beating the Rays in 2008.

  83. Gonzo Says:

So Cole Hamels really did that Youtube Video with the grenades and the cursing>? I thought that was fake.

  84. Lynniemac Says:

It had to be real. No one could ever fake that voice that well.

  85. Merrill Says:

Cole needs to rest and worry about getting his head screwed on straight for next year, so he can pitch like he should. Enough of this “hollywood” crap.

  86. Tom Merchen's Wooden Spoon Says:

    phils

  87. Luis A. Says:

    yesterday was fun

  88. Jdashdog Says:

Yo Luis, I can’t believe Lynnie was personally attacking u like that.

  89. Joe D Says:

Saw Cole was at that overrated restaurant Moshulu last night for some charity thing. He said he hasn’t even watched TV in a month when he was asked about the trade rumor. Damn Cole…Comcast would not like that…now go call your grandmom.

  90. Lynniemac Says:

    Fuck off, Jdash. :-P

  91. Luis A. Says:

On a personal note, I did not take it as a personal attack. I just wanted to end the discussion.

  92. Jdashdog Says:

Don’t be sad, don’t be blue
You have your whole life ahead of you
Love was here, now it’s gone
So it’s time you keep moving on
    Don’t take it personal
Take the bitter with the sweet
    Easy come easy go
    Don’t take it personal
Take the bitter with the sweet
Some good things come to an end

  93. tubby Says:

The dude that made that video is a comic genius. What a bunch of losers.

  94. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Lynniemac is all about personal attacks.

She regularly makes me feel like I’m actually the size of my avatar. We’re talking daily basis here.

  95. Luis A. Says:

Oh yeah, my poor little heart was broken last night

  96. bigmyc Says:

Uh, where did you read/see that the untimely grenade blasting of Cole was him in the voice over? I still don’t like the foreshadowing of that stupid video.

  97. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

In regard to the all star game, here’s what I think should happen:

The reason it was changed in the first place was because Alan Selig had no idea how to handle the extra inning catastrophe in Milwaukee. But the catastrophe last year in NYC was worse, and could have been even worse — totally exposed this as a flawed approach.

So, go back to it not mattering & being all fun and games. Let the game go one or two extra innings. If it doesn’t end, send it to a HR Derby, where each team goes 3 rounds and can only send active or un-used players to the plate.

That would be some exciting shit.

  98. Jdashdog Says:

“THIS TIME IT DOESN’T MATTER ANYMORE!!!!”

    H, that’s an awesome idea.

  99. Luis A. Says:

Let’s just go back to how the all star game was prior to 2003. I’m sick of the AL always getting the homefield advantage in the WS. The NL has not had homefield since 2001. It’s a joke.

  100. Mr 99 Says:

    Oh Hai

  101. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

& an equally fitting & awesome slogan, JDash.

    How do make this happen?

  102. AK Says:

Why can’t MLB be like every other sport and award home field to the team with the best record? If I’m not mistaken 2004 is the only year that the team with the best record didn’t have home field advantage, (Boston was going to win that series even if they played every game in St. Louis) so we can just forget this whole thing ever happened.

  103. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

@AK – because Selig is a toolbag and figured that if the all star game “counted,” players would try harder and thus avoid extra inning games, being that an extra innings game that he called in a tie was the inspiration for this decision.

The bottom line is he’s a terrible decision maker, especially when it’s spontaneous/on the fly. Couple that with how he handled game 5 of the ‘08 WS and you start to see how pathetic he is (not that it’s a secret).

If I handled my job like he handles his, no doubt I would be fired.

  104. Luis A. Says:

I like the idea of awarding the team with the best record home field. It makes too much sense for Bud though.

  105. Somebody's Juice Says:

According to CSN Philly Cole has been at CBP everyday throwing :P

  106. Luis A. Says:

    that’s good to know

  107. YankeeChuck Says:

Hey Hideki and Alex…don’t you just love this website. Ever since I found it, its been hard to get any work done.

What entertainment. The daily double next year will be going through both Boston and Phildalephia for our 28th.

  108. Jdashdog Says:

Somebody’s Juice – you missed the end of that story:

Cole has been at CBP everyday throwing…hissy fits because someone removed the puppy pictures from his locker.

  109. Tim Says:

To all the Cole haters out there, I know it’s fun to make fun of the guy, and he makes it pretty easy, to be honest, but if he comes back next year and has a monster season (which he’s very capable of, though it’s certainly not guaranteed), then everyone who bitched about how bad he was this season should donate $5 to his charity. Yeah, he had a crappy year, but don’t forget that everybody’s hero Cliff Lee had to be sent down to the minors as recently as 2007 because he sucked so much. Then he came back and won a Cy Young.

  110. Luis A. Says:

I’ll donate $5 to Cole’s charity if he pitches well next season

  111. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

I’m not donating shit. I’ve already stated several times over on here that he’s winning 18 games with a 3-ish ERA, and good stats in all the other less-than-popular metrics.

Jdash will back me on this one, I’m sure.

Heathcliff is not a Cole hater. But damn it is easy to make fun of his sissy-pants personality.

  112. stinkbug Says:

    http://www.theonion.com/content/news/report_yankees_trademarked_yankees

  113. Watrick Says:

I’ll donate, but to somewhere else.

  114. Phylan Says:

I don’t know about the wins because they depend on so many things, but I’m with you on the rest of that Heath

  115. Luis A. Says:

    http://www.theonion.com/content/news/report_yankees_trademarked_yankees
    good report

  116. Jdashdog Says:

Tim, I love Cole. He’s like my little bitch-ass brother who just makes it so easy to pick on him, so I have to do it.

Heath, Phylan, and I are all expecting Cole to have a good year. I expect him to be right there with Cliff as far as who the ace is. But this year, come on. What was I supposed to do? He didn’t do what he could/should have and very few Phillies fans will give him a pass for that.

  117. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Phylan – my original statement from a couple threads ago was “18 wins, with and over of 20 and an under of 15,” because I totally understand those variables.

My logic with the 18, though, is that he will be pitching behind Lee in the rotation, which should translate to matchups with pitchers the Phils bats might have an easier time with.

Certainly wins are a total wildcard, hence the over/under. So basically I’m saying he will have at least 15 wins with 20 as a stretching possibility.

As you & I both know, all the other metrics are way more important anyway, though I can’t articulate them as well as you.

All of that being said, I just think he will be in better psychological shape for a host of reasons (unless he wastes all his time getting spanked in MWf 2)

  118. stinkbug Says:

    ToddZolecki

Left-hander Scott Eyre filed for free agency today. about 20 hours ago from web

  119. AK Says:

Eyre also stated that he’ll either play for the Phils next year or retire. I bet he comes back for one more year.

  120. Tim Says:

Maybe the commenters here aren’t the right people to pick on. I’m more thinking of the sports radio types who you hear at bars loudly declaring that he is incapable of pitching at a major league level.

  121. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Those guys are morons, Tim. We all generally agree on that here.

Someone also once pointed out that they’re the same idiot who regular blame every Eagles loss on McNabb, along with a slew of other highly deplorable comments.

  122. KP Says:

If he has a good season I’ll donate five dollars…to the pspca. For Chase Utley.

I’ve talked with H about it. Actualy we were talking about it before this thread happened. Which is where he said 18 wins. I don’t see him having a good season. I just don’t. Don’t ask me why. Just call it a hunch.

However this is one of those moments I wouldn’t MIND being proven wrong.

And yeah he’s one hell of an easy target.

  123. Lynniemac Says:

Heathcliff, under normal circumstances, I’d have had your back on the 18 win thing, but since I apparently belittle you on a daily basis, I think what you actually said went a little something like this…

“I think Cole is a whining princess headcase, and I expect next year to be just as bad as this one. In fact, I expect it to be worse. I think he’ll be so busy attempting to fill dearly departed mega-pitchman Billy Mays’ shoes that he won’t have time to even pick up a baseball before Spring Training starts. Once the season begins, forget it. His name will constantly be on the transaction list under pitchman leave as he films infomercials for Mighty Putty, Hercules Hooks (perfect for hanging up one’s doggy backpack), Kaboom, and OxyClean. I’ll be happy if the Phillies get 3 wins out of him and his ERA will be somewhere north of 9.00.”

    ;-)

  124. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Lynnie – thank you for nearly causing me to fall out of my office chair & subsequently suffering a laughter-induced injury.

This is by far the highlight of my Friday the 13th.

Which reminds me, be on the lookout for a machete-wielding chap in an old-school goalie mask. I hear he’s on the loose.

Finally, if you’re allergic to hyphens, I apologize for this post. I used a shit-ton of them.

  125. KP Says:

” Hercules Hooks (perfect for hanging up one’s doggy backpack)” HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

    Classic post. Is classic.

  126. Lynniemac Says:

Heathcliff, I’m glad you’re uninjured and you’re welcome.

There’s my accomplishment of the day.

  127. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Seriously, Lynnie, bookmark that post; it’s a serious gem.

The more I read it, the more I’m stunned by its greatness.

  128. bigmyc Says:

    No. no. no.

Slocumb, you are categorically incorrect when you pair the McNabb criticizers with those who think Cole can’t pitch. Nobody ever thinks every loss is McNabb’s fault. That is impossible to do. Idiocy is just that; idiotic behavior/thought. Usually, when someone criticizes McNabb, they have a damn strong cogent point to offer. Hell, McNabb makes it easy.

Just wanted to set that record straight.

  129. Luis A. Says:

McNabb’s like a pinata at some kid’s party

  130. Lynniemac Says:

Thank you, Heathcliff. Compliments are always appreciated. What’s funny is that I don’t think that was anywhere near my best material. LOL

That said, thank you again – I’m here all week. Please remember to tip your servers and be sure to try the veal.

  131. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

bigmyc – fair enough. bottom line – there’s lots of idiots out there.

Lynnie – I hear the veal is splendid. Now I have to give it a shot.

Have a good weekend ya’lls — not sure I’ll be back on til Monday.

  132. Luis A. Says:

McNabb and Hamels should get a dollar for every criticism they get, they could potentially double what they already make.

  134. Phylan Says:

There are a lot of people who think every loss is McNabb’s fault; not coincidentally most of them end up saying something like “Why can’t we just have a white quarterback” when you get enough beers in them.

  135. UCM Says:

Associated Press reports that Brian Cashman is talking with the Blue Jays’ brass about a deal that could send Robison Cano, Joba and some minor league prospects to the Jays in exchange for a certain pitcher.

  136. Luis A. Says:

Phylan makes an excellent point about McNabb haters.

  137. bigmyc Says:

    My point is;

No one really pays much attention to those kinds of comments. Clearly, they are not based upon substance.

Now, you come with, “McNabb, after 10 years, is maddeningly inaccurate and inconsistent,” or “McNabb spends too long in his slumps,” or “McNabb wants the credit but none of the blame,” or “McNabb has a penchant for choking in big games or big situations,” etc…then, then you gotta listen since those types of comments are routed in fact.

By the way, should this turn into a McDebate, know that there is nothing wrong with it. The Phils are done for a while and most of us are Philly sports fans in general. Besides, it wouldn’t be and hasn’t been a frequent thing.

  138. bigmyc Says:

    “..rooted in fact.”

  139. bigmyc Says:

    Luis, gimme a break.

Isn’t that already obvious? The tragedy to Iggles phans is that the McNabb backers allow the more ridiculous (and the minority, I might add) of the McNabb detractors to speak for all people critical of Donovan…this circumstance only increases the disdain that the McSkeptics have for the McCheerleaders.

  140. Luis A. Says:

I agree that McNabb deserves blame, but it’s kind of like beating on a dead horse after a while.

  141. Luis A. Says:

I meant some, not all McNabb haters

  142. Roccio Says:

    luis,

I guess that’s better than beating a dead dog, like Vick did.

please don’t let this turn into an Eagles discussion.

  143. Luis A. Says:

I’m gonna do myself a favor and not talk about McNabb anymore.

  144. bigmyc Says:

Damn right. When you are the leader of the offense and your team scores 3 points in the second half vs. Dallas, for instance, you deserve plenty of blame.

  145. Luis A. Says:

good night to one and all

  146. dlhunter Says:

    Good night, sweet prince.

  147. John Says:

is there gonna be any new shit on this website?

  148. BigMiles Says:

Well considering I haven’t heard an ounce of Phils news in the past couple days…probably not John

  149. John Says:

how about the fact that chase won a silver slugger and jimmy and shane got gold gloves

  150. Griswold Says:

    he sounds just like him.
“anyone wanna see a magic trick? I’m gonna make this good pitcher disappear”

  151. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

    Hey bigmyc…..about that McDebate….yeah….umm…..fuck

So yes, we can all agree it’s like beating a dead horse, I think. But where do you see that team heading? McNabb’s days are definitely numbered. Westbrook was already on the slide and this concussion business pretty much seals his end (sadly…that’s really not the way you wanna see that guy go).

But do you (bigmyc & others) have “high hopes” for the future? I think I do. Kolb, while shaky at times, has shown steadiness in the pocket and pretty accurate passing — not to mention he’s had a lot of time to observe the good, bad, & downright ugly of McNabb; and also to mentally understand the offense. Jackson and Maclin are awesome, Celek is emerging as a top 10 TE, and McCoy clearly has skills that, when given a good line and solid blocking, can be increased 10-fold. The D is banged up, but I think they have enough talent to be good moving forward.

I saw a comment last night — when McNabb goes, this team wins a Super Bowl. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen. I’ve been a McNabb defender/supporter for quite some time, but I do think his time is up. Like I read about the Phillies for next year – like a shark, if you’re not moving forward, you’re dead. I just think the McNabb era has become a stale saga of the same stories and themes in recent years, and it’s time to move forward to the future of this team.

  152. Jdashdog Says:

Heath – there’s one thing that can renew my interest/faith in the Eagles: a new head coach.

  153. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Yeah. I think one or the other has to be tried first. Andy could be the problem, but McNabb’s inconsistency has been consistently apparent. I’d actually like to see how things go without him first, then bid Andy fairwell if the follow-up is a failure (failure definied by not bringing home Lombardi within 2-3 years)

  154. Watrick Says:

I’ve been critical of McNabb in the past, and I think for good reason, but something I’ve always thought was that the coach is the biggest reason to blame. I think McNabb has the arm to be in a type of offense that throws deep a lot more than short, quick throws. McNabb hasn’t been able to develop the touch of throwing a lot of guys do, and it hurts him sometimes on the short passes. Also, look at how they can’t even throw a fade pass in the endzone, still. I think if you open up the deep passing game, the guy could shine. I also think, though, that an actual running game can help a team-not just on keeping the defense honest, but by wearing down the defensive line, so you can get better protection later in the game. There was a stat that was presented on a Fox broadcast a couple weeks back, regarding how much Reid passes, and he’s setting an all time mark for percentage of pass plays versus run plays. I know they do the screen pass a whole bunch to compensate for the run game, but that doesn’t cut it.

Blame all around, I guess. I’d like to see us move on. They both helped turn around a franchise that was going nowhere fast with Kotite and Rhodes, so they deserve credit for that, although I’m sure McNabb would make sure you notice him still sulking over being booed when he was drafted (even though he’ll never mention the full page add in the Inqy that was an apology for that on the eve of the Super Bowl, but let’s not let that get in the way of a good story.)

  155. Brandon Says:

Its been a little while since I visited. Got some of the shirts today. The Cadillac time shirt is so awesome.

  156. Jdashdog Says:

McNabb shouldn’t be throwing 50+ times a game. When you’re throwing that much it highlights all of his weaknesses. If the Eagles has ANY sort of running game and McNabb only had to throw about 25 passes I think you’d see a much more successful team.

It’s things like that, all of the stupid penalties, the absence of a redzone attack, etc that are a direct result of poor coaching.

    PHILLIES!!! How many days til?

The more I think about it the more I want Feliz back.

  157. bigmyc Says:

Heath Slomo, sure man, there’s plenty of hope..even with the Aggravating Duo at the helm. Problem is; soon as the hope is fufilled, they’ll come in and smash what hope the fans have cultivated with their stupid playcalling and their asinine decision making on the field and regarding personnel.

There’s plenty of talent on this team and most of it is on the offensive side of the ball…yet they get twelve points total in consecutive halves. When Mcnabb goes away, he makes a production of it. Andy only enlivens any kind of struggles that McNabb might make worse for himself by enabling his diva behavior and misusing the personnel he has at his disposal.

If McDermott’s defenses seem to come up short at times, it’d be difficult to blame him. Andy puts so much pressure on him when his offense makes a trend of going three and out. That D, with that depleted secondary has only so many stops in it’s capacity.

In short, Andy’s approach to this team and it’s game day management is a stale and ineffective one and he doesn’t seem to appreciate this…for the last five years or so. I’d like to send the two of them away for some fresh air and a nice draft pick.

  158. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

J-dash – I said pretty much the same thing after watching the birds “Man, I’ve had enough of this shit. When do the Phils start, again?”

bugmyc – I’m starting to feel an affectionate appreciation for the “Slomo” pet name. It’s growing on me, I suppose. Somewhat more like mold than flowers, but it’s growing nonetheless.

That being said, I couldn’t agree more on all accounts. The more I hear these arguments against Reid, the more I am thinking they do both need to go. A friend recently said Reid is the best coach in the league Tuesday-Saturday. He gets the players well-prepared and usually has a decent gameplan, but his in-game management is downright pathetic.

  162. The Killers Zs Says:

Santa, please please please bring us a good utility player. Who can hit. And has a good personality or at least do something entertaining. And a pitcher, a really really good pitcher. And please make Chan Ho Park come to his senses. And please take away the Great Gazoo Helmet requirement for I cannot bear to see Chase Utley or heaven forbid, Raul Ibanez in one. Thank you.

  163. Jdashdog Says:

While it’s not a requirement, I’d prefer my new utility player to have an awesome beard. Just for old times sake.

  164. maria Says:

I read an article on the Phillies website that said Park was likely to resign with the Phillies despite his quote saying he wanted to a starter.

And Lynnie, I’ve been watching Golden Girls nonstop for the past 4 days to avoid any Yankees/Phillies talk.

  165. maria Says:

Matt Stairs will come relatively cheap so I guess it all depends on whether Ruben Amaro Jr. wants to keep him on the bench. And yeah, I will always love the guy.

Jdashdog: I see a beer and some ice time in Matt Stairs’ future (not necessarily in that order). Oh, you didn’t mean immediate future.

Maria: I’ve been watching it, too, everytime it’s on. Which is not nearly enough.

And fuck Chris Coghlan. I hate that guy.

  168. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

Fuck CC. Another fucking CC. Fucker.

I would love to play some puck with Matt Stairs.

  169. will.H Says:

is it impossible for pitchers to win the ROY? Happers had a 2.83 ERA and he loses to a guy who hit .320 for half a season?

I want to know how i can become one of these respected voters. I also want to know who invented the slinky, the kazoo and condoms. all fucking useless

  170. BigMiles Says:

I hate to say it but Coghlan deserved the award. He led both leagues in hits after the all-star break (I believe) and single-handedly ruined Cole Hamels confidence. Happ was a machine but I think his short stint on the DL cost him the award. I would have loved to see him win it but honestly the dude has played so well under the “nobody believes in me” attitude that hopefully this just adds more fuel to his fire.

  171. Heathcliff Slocumb Says:

will.H – I agree with you on 1 of 3. I’m quite fond of the slinky & the kazoo, their use being pure entertainment.
