Check Out My Podcasting Debut On NERDCAST

Last night was my introductory appearance to the glorious world o’ podcasting. dUB-iLL & slim of NERDCASTonline invited me on their show to yuk it up for about 20 minutes to talk about such interesting things as how The Fightins dot com came to be, t-shirts, how a comment thread becomes a dating service, that Henry Hill/Jimmy Rollins video, and why sailors are for condoms.
Heavy stuff, man. Do me a favor and check it out — I phone in around the 29-minute mark.

Interesting…
November 10th, 2009 at 10:48 am
LMAO! I feel somewhat famous…..
November 10th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Yeah, I’m hip to the times.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Nice. Glad to have contributed to some hilarity. As the fellas said, you get a prime seat at the wedding. LMFAO.
And I still swear it was totally incidental. If you tell the story again, meech, it’s important to note that I made heist on a Yankees troll; my personal post-season highlight.
Hahahahaha.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Thanks again for coming on, Meech!
@Heathcliff Slocumb – We may have to get you on around Valentines Day to chat about random virtual hookups. Please keep us updated on your thumb-sized internet dream woman.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:22 am
::thumbs up:: @ dUb-iLL
November 10th, 2009 at 11:23 am
I would never be able to read a blog about another sports team. It’s nothing against them, some of my favorite friends are fans of the 3rd best export of Canada (Behind SCTV and Molson), but I can’t get into hockey. Basketball is too much about posturing, and football’s hype machine is owned by Disney, so we don’t need anymore of that. There’s nothing better than baseball-I’ve learned all I need to know about life from the game. Theflyin’s.com? Please.
Nice guys, though. Even with too many Yards’ Brawlers, still seemed to run a nice show, and know a good amount about the site. I wonder if they’re one of the everyday writers themselves…
November 10th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Guess so…
November 10th, 2009 at 11:32 am
@dUb-iLL – random is definitely the word. “Picking up a chick on the internet” was totally not on my agenda the day of that 500+ post. In fact, I’ve never done any kind of internet dating at all.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Glad to finally put a voice with someone I’ve known on the Internet for about 3 years now.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Healthcliff – lets hear some details. Did you hit it or what?
November 10th, 2009 at 11:57 am
at times i swear i saw grease dripping from my computer speakers. damn italians.
but no mention of wheeler and/or pat burrell decal guy.
no respect

November 10th, 2009 at 11:59 am
ohh i forgot…. did you tap it or what?
November 10th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
im glad to be a part of this website, i know im just a faceless commentor but w/e, i feel proud of this website somehow, cuz i saw it from the beginning
aww im gonna cry
November 10th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Easy now, fellas…
First off, a Slocumb never kisses and tells. It’s just a fact.
Second, I will not be invoking the words “hit,” “tap,” or anything of the like for our lovely avatar lady. Didn’t anyone ever tell yaz chicks don’t dig that shit?
All that being said, I do feel obligated to provide some kind of update. There’ve been a few emails exchanged and that’s about it to date.
Stay tuned, kiddies!
November 10th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Fair enough. You are a true gentleman and she is a lucky lady.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Great. I very much look forward to blowing up another thread real soon. I feel like I have done my part so far. Good interview.
Btw…finally putting a voice to the prose…you sound so much… cooler.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
I think that qualifies as a man-love moment, bigmyc. I think the sentiment is shared ’round the campfire.
Lookout. If meech hooks up a thumbnail avatar, we could all be in trouble.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
“our lovely avatar lady”
I’m so happy to be a part of this moment.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
..although, after hearing that podcast, I now am getting the sense that Anthony Gargano runs this website..never woulda guessed that.
Congrats, Cuz.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Anybody know anything about the trading Hamels rumors btw????
November 10th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Haven’t heard that, KP, but I certainly hope it’s not true.
I think people have been over-reacting about his comments after the WS loss. The guy has had a tough stretch. He has basically been going non-stop since February ‘08. He went from the great postseason performance, straight into a stretch of interviews and endorsements, etc. He never really had a mental break from the game – his head was stuck in October ‘08 entering this season and never really started fresh.
I’m calling for an 18 win season, with an under of 15 and an over of 20, after a fully rested, no-spotlight off season, lower expectations next season, and a little more luck in the run support department.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
@KP – look at you rockin’ the avatar. That, coupled with Jdash’s bacon cheeseburger pic, and I’d dare to say Ms. Katherine started a trend up on here.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Btw, meech, I totally policed the shit outta that Goodfellas/Jimmy clip. Anytime I saw someone throw it up on facebook, I was sure to drop a “That came from the Fightins, sucka” comment.
Apparently it started a fire in Minnesota.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Hamels is not getting traded. Rumor squashed.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
It was on Nbc10 this morning. They are saying Cole for Halladay. Apperently it’s all over twitter but I’m not on twitter.
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/sports/Sources-Phils-talk-trade-With-Roy-Halladay-69642742.html
I’m also hoping it’s true. Cole seems to put WAY more time into endorsements and his personal image then he does BASEBALL. Not to mention acting like a tool this postseason. I never could stand him even when he WAS doing well. It just got worse this season when he was so full of himself for NO REASON.
We all need avatars now. Ms. Katherine def. started something magical.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Aw man. Rumor squashed.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Crazy Fist Bump Guy approves of your avatar, KP.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I think it would be a terrible trade if it did happen. Would seem OK at first, and then show it’s true value down the road, when Hamels is mowing people down with his then-perfect change-up/fastball/curve ball combo and Halladay.
The endorsements thing is in the past, so I’m not worried. He was striking while the iron was hot, and inevitably was acting on the advice of some agent who was like “you are worth 10 times your weight in gold” after 2 ‘08 postseason MVP awards. If someone came to me right now and told me I could make an easy couple mil and my career would suffer for about a year, I’d take it. That’s what happened to Hamels.
He will be fine. He may whine and say some of the wrong things, but he’s still a competitor. And really, he was simply psychologically fried by the time this post season came around. It was apparent in both his performance and his statements (though they were, at times, blown out of proportion by the media).
November 10th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
::Crazy Fist Bump Guy::
Stamp of approval hath been applied
November 10th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
& how does this avatar thing work, again?
I know somebody asked a few threads back (probably the super long one), but I must have missed the answer.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Thanks, crazy fist bump guy. Let’s start a trend.
And yeah, I see what you’re saying about Hamels. Hopefully this year was enough of a wake up call for him and he takes his head out his ass. It would be nice to have him back to 08′ status and have we HAD that this year might have been a bit different for us.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
http://en.gravatar.com/
It tags to your email. So anywhere you use that email address it’ll put the avatar.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
You need to jump on that, H. and remember. I CAN call you H now.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Thanks KP.
And mark my words, Hamels wins at least 15 games (I’m taking action on 18), but maybe as many as 20, maintains a sub-3 ERA throughout the season, and piles on the Ks. He will also hit his first career home run, wait & see.
I also like Hamels more next season because he is definitely the number 2 guy behind Cliff Lee, so just less pressure overall, and probably some better matchups against guys who the Fightins bats will light up.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Yes. You can call me H, KP. For sure.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
If we picked up Halladay, both he and Cliff would probably be gone after next year.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
I don’t know why but I have BIG doubts that Hamels is going to do well next year. But I’m going to be optimistic and listen to all you said cause it does make sense.
And why would Cliff and Halladay be gone?
November 10th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
I hope Cliff Lee does not go Hamels on us next season. He was just absolutely epic in the post-season. I agree that Hamels will get his head on straight (ummmm…) in the off-season and will be raring to go next year.
Has anyone ever found out who Crazy Fist Bump Guy is? I would really love to see a shirt with that guy. And the Seal of Approval.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
alright i think i got this avatar thing to work.
thefightins dot com dating service is growing by the minute
November 10th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
damn, everyone’s getting their own avatar
November 10th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
hahaha I use to listen to Kiddchris, I didn’t know the fightins were associated with the NerdCast
November 10th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
KP, cause they’ll both be free agents. If would be tough to re-sign both of them.
Everyone needs an avatar! Show your faces you cowards!
November 10th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
we’re not like the Yankees, we can’t have both Halladay and Lee
November 10th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
We had the fifth highest payroll in 2009. CBP is a cash factory. We could easily afford both. The Halladay rumors are probably bullshit though.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
I didn’t even consider how tough it would be to resign BOTH of them…damn.
Idk. I think a LOT rests on the shoulders of Cole this year and again ibelieve had we had 08′ Cole this year COULD have ended different.
And I put that could lightly.
I’m loving this avatar explosion. Its’ easy. No excuses all.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
But let’s say after next year they each command something like 4 years/$65 mil. Do you think Ruben & Co will go for that?
November 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Def. not.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Avatar?
November 10th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
No avatar…
November 10th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

November 10th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

November 10th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Oh wait. OK. In business.

I didn’t select & confirm at first. Then it just didn’t show. Now I’m golden.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

November 10th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Rumor has it those little mini 4X4 of you go a long way on here.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Y’all are lookin fly
November 10th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
thefistins.com is open for business, ladies & gents
November 10th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I love A-ROID
November 10th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
No way they trade Cole for Halladay, there’s only one year of upside to that deal. In order to get Roy we will have to mortgage the future away to win next year. There’s no guarentee that Rube and co. will be able to retain both Lee and Halladay when they are able to walk after ‘10.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Yeah Cole is at the top of my shit list but he’s way too valuable to this team for people to be talking about trading him. This is baseball. 3 playoff starts doesn’t make a career. One “bad” season doesn’t make a career. As soon as he dumps that disgrace of a curveball and works on something else he will be fine.
Btw, I watched game 5 from the Tampa series the other night. I didn’t see one curveball, just changeups and fastballs. He still only gave up two runs…in the rain with a swollen pitching hand from getting hit while bunting. Why did he start throwing that thing again?
November 10th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Cole had too many people in his ear telling him he needed a third pitch. That curveball is junk.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
If he can master the curve like he does his change, I’m a fan. As it is right now, definitely not game-worthy. Doesn’t Lincecum mix it up with a curve?
But generally, yes, I agree BigMiles. I’d like to see him make slight variations, like a cut, or a sink, or something like that. I’d even rather him throw a slider than a curve — I think it would be more effective with the way his change works.
Someone call Dubee.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
true that Heathcliff, his straight fastball will not get it done…maybe dice-k will teach him the gyroball
November 10th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
@PopUpJimmy11 – he’s going to need another pitch. MLB hitters are two good for starting pitchers to only throw 2 pitches. It works for closers, because it’s limited. But it won’t work for a whole game. They’re starting to figure out his change, and that’s already been a problem.
2 pitches is what killed KK. 3 pitches is what revived him and what might get him a starting job next season.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
speaking of KK, is he actually an option? I guess he is at this point considering that there is a glaring hole in the 5th spot (unless you are counting on good ol’ Jamie). Drabek won’t be ready, although you never know if he would be by early summertime.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
let me tell you, meech is my hero.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
KK will be competing for a job, no doubt. He looked stellar in the end stretch with that change.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
what are they going to do with old balls moyer???????????????????
November 10th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
@ Heathcliff – I agree he needs a 3rd pitch, no questions asked. Just that his curveball stinks and he would be better served starting it out in ST rather then the WS and getting asshammered when it counts. A cut or a slide piece would be nice.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
I’m sure Moyer will be competing for a starting job, too. If he doesn’t make it, and has to do bullpen work, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him retire.
Also, I like Moyer in the starting rotation just for what he contributes on the bench as a mentor to the young starters. Moyer goes to the pen in ‘09 & Cole falls apart. Coincidence? Probably. But Jamie knew how to get into Hamels’ head, something no one else seems to know how to do. Cole talks about him all the time; seems like every other interview. I’d like to see him in the dugout if for nothing but that reason alone.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
@PopUpJimmy11 – I couldn’t possibly agree more.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I don’t see KK starting again, but I really liked him out of the pen. Who knows though.
Old Balls Moyer might be getting paid, but he won’t be on the roster next year.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Moyer = dead salary
November 10th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
JDash – I fully believe that KK is part of the future of this team, and by that I mean as a starter. I can’t quote anyone specifically, but I remember hearing that was the team’s intention. The 2 games he started in September were life savers. The only reason they were using him out of the bullpen, on top of the fact that a solid season in Lehigh earned it, was that they were set on starters outside of spot-starts b/c of rain delays or whatever.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Also, I should add that part of my belief that his future is as a starter is that he appeared in 24 games in Lehigh, all of them as the starter.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
H, if he could be a starter that would be fan-fucking-tastic. Especially if he could become a solid 3 or 4 with Draybek waiting in the wings, shit is looking nice down the road.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
when is the earliest Drabek’s expected to be up next season if at all?
November 10th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
If he can make the club as #5 next year, and stays steady throughout the season, I feel really good about him stepping into a #3 role as early as ‘11 – which would be crucial given the inevitable question marks that appear to be on the horizon for that season.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
I don’t think there’s an “official” word, Luis, but I would be surprised to see him start the season anywhere but Lehigh, and be first in line to come up if and when a spot opens.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Luis, I don’t think anything expected of young Draybek yet. We just have to play the waiting game.
H, is it awesome or lame that this is how we spend all day, even in the off season? I think its awesome.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Sorry, drabek
November 10th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
I’m thinking he starts out in Lehigh as well
November 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
yeah, it’s probably too soon
November 10th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Awesome, JDash. It’s definitely awesome. Anyone who says or thinks otherwise has no soul.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
It’s definitely awesome. I could either be here or on some other philly sports blog where everyone just spits fire at Reid and McNabb and blah blah blah. I actually watched an Arizona Fall League game on MLB Network yesterday because I was in such withdrawal.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
I can’t believe Jeter won a Gold Glove this year. There have to be at least 5 – 10 better fielding AL shortstops than him.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Which post was the internet hook up going down at?
November 10th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
No way will Drabek be ready for 2010. I see the rotation at the beginning of the year being Lee, Hamels, Happ, Blanton, Moyer/Bastardo/Amaro hasn’t ruled out bringing back Pedro, but that is way to big a question mark
November 10th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
And just in case anybody wants to stay fashionable cozy this winter:
http://jerseyshoregifts.auctivacommerce.com/Philadelphia-Phillies-Blanket-With-Sleeves-P339128.aspx
Phillies snuggie!
November 10th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
Flippin sweet, JDash. I saw a snuggie commercial yesterday and though “I might get myself one of those, just so I can march around my apartment in it and laugh at myself all winter.”
Now I might have to. Thank you, Phillies snuggie. Thank you.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Meech…you’re old?
November 10th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Cole’s curve was always a token 3rd pitch. He effectively threw with 2 pitches and had immense success with it. Teaching him a slider or a cutter would probably be a waste of time. His fastball is great, and his changeup is elite. That’s all he needs imo.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Phylan – are there other (starting) pitchers out there who are getting away with only a 2-pitch combo, and putting up good numbers?
I’m asking because I really can’t think of any, and I’m curious to see what you know about all that – since you tend to be pretty resourceful.
November 10th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Oh no Phillies snuggie!
November 10th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Phillies snuggie’s out of stock. Put it on the Amazon wishlist?
November 10th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
John Lackey was ejected after only throwing 2 pitches his first start this year. That’s equally as effective as when Cole throws his curve
November 10th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Could it be?
November 10th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
100?
November 10th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Sweet. I stayed an extra 15 minutes at work for that one.
Now I can go home, proud & satisfied. Or feeling like a complete loser. Probably a combination of the two.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
If Drabek lights it up in ST, I think he’ll make the trip up to Philly with the team in late March. The same could be said of KK if he looks good.
Also, Cole has been working on that curve ball for a while. Rewind to two spring trainings ago and you’ll see that he was getting his can knocked around the complex by guys you may never hear about in the bigs….what pitch do you think was the “bitch maker?”
Not sayin’ that he can’t ever get a curve to add to his repetoire, but I think the most important thing is his concentration level. That was clearly the problem last year and not his lack of a third pitch.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I need that Phillies snuggie in my life.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
interesting that Lidge post made the podcast. I thought the heads of this site didn’t care some people were upset about it? guess they were
November 10th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
@Heathcliff that’s a good question, but I have no idea. I’m sure there are guys out there with token third pitches like Cole’s curve, but I honestly haven’t researched it.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Thanks for coming on Meech. Now, I’m looking to hook up.. with a woman preferably. Anyone interesting? I’m running a Hasselhoff-esque quaff on my head this winter, if that helps. Oh, and I’m on the Twitter.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Yankees fans still aren’t done…
http://keitholbermann.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/11/what_the_heck_is_this.html
November 10th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Can anyone psycho analyze me and tell me why I just tried to go to thefistins.com? Thanks…
How long until pitchers and catchers??
November 10th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Andrew. It’s yours self concious. Longing for a fistins.com website.
And I wonder how much that car cost that moron.
November 10th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
@Andrew: approximately 91 more days til pitchers and catchers.
Is this avatar thing working yet?
November 10th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
AVATARS GALOREEEEE!!!!
And Phillies snuggie !!!
November 10th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Sup Katherine
November 10th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Good job, Meech!
November 10th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Congrats on the podcast, meech! It seems as though this site gets bigger by the day.
November 10th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
That’s a nice Phils snuggie. I wish there were some in stock. In regards that hot wheels hurst with the Phils coffin on top, that’s just in bad taste. Ridiculous.
November 10th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
those tastykake butterscotch krimpets look good
November 11th, 2009 at 10:14 am
Watch it, dUb-iLL….
November 11th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Is it duck hunt?
November 11th, 2009 at 10:42 am
@Heathcliff Slocumb – Is that the same gal or are you looking into forming a harem around here?
November 11th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Same chick-a-dee, my friend.
I’m not necessarily opposed to a harem, especially if it were full of hot female Phillies fans. It was not nor is not my intent. That project is all yours if you want it, bro
November 11th, 2009 at 11:58 am
My bad, the different user name/thumbsized picture threw me off. Continue your reign, my friend.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Hahaha. Word.
November 11th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
I didn’t realize meech was so influential….. a viral video AND an appearance check! watch out, internet.
November 13th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Trade a section of fans (bandwagon ones) for Halladay
