Ever since my SCATHING critique of Carlos Ruiz a couple weeks ago, the Panamanian catcher and master of calling games has simply been on fiyah! at the plate. Up until the 12th of May, Chooch was batting a humiliating .161 with ZERO home runs, ZERO runs batted in, and ZERO runs scored. Since then? How about .389 with a .500 OBP, one homer, three runs scored and eight RBI. Now that’s the Chooch we know and love!

Oh yeah, and he’s also starting to throw runners out on the base paths regularly again. Such an occurrence from Sunday actually prompted my favorite 3-second clip of the young season:

    my friend had a great line after seeing ruiz double, homer, and steal a bag against the yanks friday: “we’ve replaced carlos ruiz with a real baseball player…let’s see if anyone notices”

    Meech, the only reason the guy has been any good is because of your scathing criticism. Truly. Last year I used to curse him. RUIZ YOU SUCK! etc, etc…at the top of my lungs in the ball park. People would look at me like I was evil. Then he would actually do something and I would have to explain to them that it was necessary for me to heckle him, because every time I did, he would actually catch fire. Looks like its still true today.

    I was saying Boooo-iz. (last year’s carlos ruiz inside joke)

    No shit, this theory is actually based in fact. As my poor beleaguered girlfriend can tell you, everytime you call Chooch “Carlita” or the Pussy from Panama he gets a hit. If it’s a real clutch situation then I recommend breaking out the big guns…tell him you wish Amaro would trade him for Bo Diaz post-satellite dish. That worked in the WS.
