During his introductory press conference with the Houston Astros yesterday, Brett Myers has some fightin’ words for his ex-team who showed no interest in re-signing the veteran right-hander.
From an Associated Press report out of Houston via Philly.com:
“I wanted to go back to Philadelphia, but they didn’t show an interest, they had other obligations, which is fine with me,” Myers said. He then promised to “stick it” to the Phillies every time he faces them.
OOOOOooooooOOOOHHHHHH! We’re fucking scared over here.
Considering we only face the Astros twice during the regular season (April 9-11 @HOU and again August 24-26 at home), the biggest impact Brett could have against the Phillies is a whopping TWO whole wins. Plus, I’m sure by the second time we see the ‘Stros, Myers will either be injured from “playing catch with his son”, sent back down to the minors to “work on his mechanics”, or suspended after “punching his wife in the face”.
(OH SHIT BRETT, I FUCKING WENT THERE.)
Oh yeah, and Brett also credits Ed Wade for being one of the main reasons he chose Houston. No shit.
“Being familiar with Ed [Wade] made it a lot easier for the transition to be able to come over here and be able to pitch in this state and this city.”
“They beat us six out of seven last year so I know they had a good enough team to put wins together so hopefully I can just add to that and make it seven out of seven.”
By the way, Brett, the Astros only won SIX out of eight last year. And you ain’t “us” no more.

My respect for this guy just plummeted. Stick it to us? Yeah, enjoy golfing or beating your wife next October
January 13th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Would anyone expect anything different from Brett though? I’d actually be kind of disappointed in the guy if he didn’t say something like this. Plus, the guy plays for the Astros now. He’s got to build up some kind of illusion about it being a good thing, otherwise he’d go insane.
January 13th, 2010 at 2:12 pm
In his news conference, he said he likes to fight. I guess his wife found that out the hard way
January 13th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
I think if Brett’s wife was on the Phillies, that’d be the only chance he’d have at beating us.
January 13th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
I haven’t respected Brett for years. He’s a fucking douchenozzle. Fuck him. Go be bitter bitch! Enjoy a postseasonless season with Houston cockface.
January 13th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
This stuff really doesn’t piss me off, and of course he’s going to be a little bit upset over being passed on to return here, considering that his whole career up to now is with the Phillies. Best of luck to Brett in Houson, and we’re at least obliged to give him hell if he returns to the Bank this season.
January 13th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Maybe it’s jsut me, but it sounds like the writer may have taken some liberties with the quote to make it worse than it actually is. Give me a direct quote, or it is just BS.
I never minded Brett and respect his competitive nature. Wish him the best of luck in Houston and wouldn’t mind seeing him sometime in 2010.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:12 pm
I’m beginning to agree with ill.
How come nobody except this AP writer had that quote in their story? It’s obviously a news-worthy quote. And if you read the rest of the article there are these quotes about the whole thing with his wife and they sounded like they were from last year.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
How many games was Brett involved with last year against the ‘Stros is what I want to know. I bet he was the reason why “we” lost those games, if he was involved. Hey, at least it’s legal to beat your wife in Texas, ain’t it?
January 13th, 2010 at 3:24 pm
I like it when Carson curses. Haha.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
God forbid Brett Myers actually wants his new team to… ya know…. win… RIGHT?!
January 13th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
Stro’s took 6 outta 8 from Phils last year, you both can’t count I guess.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
That’s what I said, 6 of 8.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Gee, I hope he does not fall out of his car before his pitches against us.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
meech you didnt say 6 of 8, you said six of eight. there’s a difference.
uhh
January 13th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
ooooh grade school war of words between two people who don’t even know the other exists?!? I’M SO IN.
January 13th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
What’s he supposed to do, slurp Amaro for not signing him? Good for Brett. He’s an absolute bulldog who was willing to be bounced back and forth from the rotation to the bullpen.
January 13th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
Still bummed we didn’t resign Brett and/or his chinbeard. Best of luck to him in Houston, though.
January 13th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Damn. I got here too late and all the best jokes are gone.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
DId anyone else notice that when Brett lost weight, he also lost his fastball? Amaro made a good move in not signing him.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
Ah, geez. Doesn’t anyone appreciate a little innocent and playful drama? The guy can’t be too hell bent on revenge against the Phillies.
Quick question; who wouldn’t want to pitch lights out vs. their old team? He’s just being Brett and having a little fun.
Embrace it, all you pillow biters who always feel violated.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
OH, and another thing; Get over yourselves.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
Yes, I will be glad Myers is gone when our fifth starter is an octogenarian with infected blood or a goofball who thinks he was traded to Japan.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Let’s see: play to the fans of his old team by saying something at his new team’s introductory press conference like “I still wish I were in Philadelphia,” or play to the people who now sign his paychecks by saying he wants to stick it to his old team. Tough choice for someone with such poor decision-making skills.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:01 pm
Do you realize that Brett isn’t going to be that “strange, rugged red neck” in Houston, he’s just going to be a guy that “matches this city well.” I’m not saying that about the wife beating and all, really, just the red neck stuff that he would wear in Philly. It just won’t be as strange there, and therefore, not as impressive.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
good point, watrick.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
Hey listen, Brett Myers was one of my favorite Phillies over the past 10 years. I spent most of my time either defending him or writing about how much I liked him. My “insults” up there were childish enough that I didn’t think anyone would take them seriously. (an “oooohhh” taunt? correcting him on something as mundane as the number of games he thought they won?)
I wouldn’t expect anything less from Brett and wish him all the luck over there in Houston. Unless, of course, they are playing the Phillies.
And biggermyc, I’m not sure if you don’t get the tone of the site or something, but I couldn’t possibly be any more over myself.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
meech, my snark probably should have been under the post about Ed Wade and all his ex-Phillies where some were initially questioning Brett’s comments. Didn’t mean for it to seem to be directed at you, if it did.
January 13th, 2010 at 10:02 pm
he’ll be in the atlantic league by 2012
January 14th, 2010 at 7:23 am
Us Philly fans area funny bunch. The response to Myers leaving just baffles me. He helped us get a ring and played a hilarious joke on Kendrick. He put in a pretty good year as our closer and never complained. He has been here as long as Rollins and had one of the longest tenure on the team since Burrell left. I would have loved to have him resign since we didn’t get a good chance to see him pitch in 2009 with his slimmer physique. He will fit in well behind Oswalt and Wandy and I would have taken him behind Roy and Cole (and maybe Blanton).
January 14th, 2010 at 11:05 am
I will miss that loopdey doopdey curveball of his.
January 14th, 2010 at 11:54 am
Brett Myers was a douche, but that never stopped him from being an asset to this team. We should be okay without him, but there’s little doubt that it would have been nice to keep another decent arm around here.
January 14th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
Frankly, I grew tired of watching him as our Opening Day starter over the past 3 years. Not so much his fault for being stuck in that position, but he’s not a #1. However, his start two years ago in early September in New York where he struck out 10 New York Metropolitans and shut them out was fucking awesome.
January 14th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Ozzie, not that you care but that’s also the night I first watched Casablanca.
January 14th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
I don’t get how anyone can get worked up by this quote. Brett was a gamer and always took the ball in whatever role he was given. That’s why I find it hard to believe he was actually friends with Hamels who cries about day games and long sleeves. Brett is a scumbag and we all know that but between the lines he was going to do what it takes to win a ballgame. I respect him for that and wish him the best of luck. Without him, they never win the division in 2007 and who knows maybe that experience doesn’t catapult the team to the ring in 08 and the return to the series in 09.
January 14th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
I WAS KIDDING!
January 14th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
@meech, I know you were kidding but I’ve heard people on radio or just around saying negative things about Myers and his comment.
January 14th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Tough crowd today. The Conan news really has people riled up.
January 14th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
Brett’s personal life seemed to be in some state of turmoil at just about any given time, but as a gamer, I’d put him right near the top of Phil’s pitchers over the last few years. Who can forget his at bat against CC in game 2 and again in game 2 against LA. I truly enjoyed his goofy looks into the dugout as the rest of the guys were rooting him on. And instead of making boo-boo lips and pouting when he got pulled from a game like another pitcher who shall remain nameless (Cole), he actually acted like he wanted to kick Cholly’s ass and then made a scene in the dugout when Cholly got back………some say douche………I say fiery competitor.
Good luck in Houston and I hope we kick your ass.
January 17th, 2010 at 6:12 pm
Umm, didn’t Myers stick to the Phillies when he was on the team?
January 21st, 2010 at 10:38 pm
… if he doesnt fall out of his escalade on the way ..
