August 11 Game Recap: Phillies 4, Cubs 3

What happened?

Your Fightin’ Phils outlasted the Chicago Cubs in 12 innings, 4-3, to remain 3½ games up on the Marlins.

Who did what?

Jay Happ (ND) pitched 6 innings with a mediocre line of 7 H, 2 ER, 3 K, and 4 BB(!).  He also has that tiny patch of hair just above his forehead that should’ve been shaved off months ago.

Ben Francisco hit the GW home run (2) in the 12th, but he also popped out to second with runners on 2nd & 3rd and only 1 out in the 7th.  That shit is unacceptable, Benjamin.

Milton Bradley went 2 for 6 with a double (12) RBI (29), and a stolen base (2).

Lou Piniella left Carlos Marmol in the game with two outs in the 8th after he already walked Chooch and hit Victorino with a pitch.  He then proceeded to walk Chase Utley and Ryan Howard which forced in a run while two left-handed relievers sat in the bullpen with their cocks in their hand.  HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH

Jimmy Rollins went 2 for 5 and broke up Rich Harden’s no-hitter in the 6th with a 2-run bomb (14) to right.

Brad Lidge added to his league-worst ERA amongst relievers and blew another save.  What the fuck are we gonna do with this guy?

Scott Eyre (W, 2-1) got out of the 10th on one pitch and retired all three batters faced in the 11th.  I know you probably won’t believe this, but Scott’s 11th was the first time the Phillies retired the opposition with a 1-2-3 inning since the 2nd inning on Saturday. Uckgh.

Chad Durbin (S, 2) returned from the DL and picked up the save.  Congratulate him on Twitter! @ShowcaseU

What does this mean?

It means the Phillies snapped their 3-game losing streak and I can finally go to bed.

    I’m at a loss for Lidge… I don’t know what to do with him anymore. I’m still hoping that he can return to form, somehow, but it seems less likely to happen this year now.

    Glad to see a win but it did not need to be like this. The offense still can’t hit with risb. And Lidge… really? Again?

    The Phils look really tense at the plate and in the field. I think they all need a night of drinking and UFC championship fighting to loosen ‘em up. Lidge? WTF? How could Cholly say he is still our closer? It doesn’t take a genius to see he has lost his stuff. We need a closer bad!

    Really should’ve made a deal with the Reds to get Hairston and Weathers. Would’ve gotten a legit RH bat off the bench for the IF and got a guy who could close if needed. Probably would’ve have taken much, either.

    I think they have to stay with Lidge. He like Cole Hamels this year, has been inconsistent. They’ve shown flashes of 2008 but have also looked awful as well. To win in October and November, they’re going to need both Lidge and Hamels.

    maybe it was last nights lack of offense, or lidge’s blown save, or the horrible officiating but tmac was really grinding my gears last night. they should surgically combine wheels and tmac to make one super color commentator and then hire a real play-by-play man.

    I think we all still love Brad Lidge. The reason so many of us are going apeshit, is because a guy whom we all love to death, is absolutely sucking ass right now. We want to see him succeed, because we know that he was the biggest reason for us winning it all last year, and we want to see him do it again this year. It’s painful to watch a guy, who most of us probably consider to be one of the best Phillies accquisitions of all time, just suck so terribly.

    I love Lidge, too…but 2008 Lidge. This 2009 version is reminding me more and more of Mitch Williams. I dont think there is enough heartburn medication in the world to get through another season like 1993!

    Although Francisco bailed us out in the 12th, WTF was up with his half-ass throw to the plate in the 9th? Werth in RF or even Victorino from CF would have had a shot at getting the runner at the plate! Francisco’s soft-toss barely made it back into the infield!

    This team is embarrassing right now, save Rollins, Happ, and the two little Indians. It’s a fucking joke that they won this game tonight. It doesn’t matter who starts where until the closer can throw a fastball for a strike…and my guess is that guy isn’t going to be Brad Lidge. Not this year, anyway.

    But seriously? what does Fuqua like about Lights On? Fuck yeah he was perfect last year, but this year, Kerry Wood looks like Mo when Lidge is pitching. I just hope Lidge gets fucking traded for any player. Don’t forget his lil Stros mate, Eric Beardo.
