Your National League champion Philadelphia Phillies aren’t just baseball players- they’re community servicemen! I’m not sure what school this is, but for reading Clifford the Big Red Dog (sorry for evoking any Cliff Lee memories) and Curious George, these kids, courtesy of the Phillies Be A Phanatic About Reading Program, and their fine Twitter account, got a big ol’ surprise from none other than Chase Utley. (And yes, it’s OK to be jealous as shiiit of these 10 year olds right now.)
In other Chase-related news, yesterday he finally spoke about trading Cliff Lee (from David Murphy’s Philly.com article).
“Halladay is one of the best pitchers in baseball,” Utley said. “He’s a workhorse. Everyone I’ve talked to who has played with him or against him has nothing but good things to say about him. I’m excited to see him work.”
“I got to play behind Cliff. He did a wonderful job for us. Hopefully 1 day I’ll get to play behind him again. But it’s a business, and every year we realize there will be new faces in the clubhouse.”
“I trust what the front office has done. They’ve done a good job getting good players and putting good people in the clubhouse. It’s been a big part of our success. I trust what they do.”
Chase was also asked about the Phillies bringing back the dude with the forehead that the Phillies got rid of so Chase could play second base
“When we were here kind of platooning a few years ago, him being the veteran guy, I guess if he really wanted to he could have made the situation uncomfortable for me. But he didn’t do that at all. He was extremely helpful, trying to help me get better, telling me things that might help me out. When I think back on it, that’s pretty cool.”

Damnit, I wish Chase had come to my school when I was a kid!
…even though he’s only a few years older than me, so it’d be more likely as a fellow student.
Also I love that Kangaroo Court picture. Totally made my day!
January 26th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
…and those comments about Cliff Lee brought a tear to my eye
especially the part about Chase wanting to play on the same team as Cliff again sometime in the future. Hopefully that team will be the Phillies.

nice drink LA is holding.. I’m sure it’s just coffee. Sure.

I’m still waiting to make an appearance at any elementary school. Just give me the word…
January 26th, 2010 at 2:33 pm
I see they cut off the video right before he said “World Champions…World Fucking Champions!”
January 26th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Beautiful, Pete.
January 26th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Isn’t that Tyler Walker’s kid in the Hamels jersey?
January 26th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Adam, I can’t believe I still owe you $500,000….. Im’ going to take a dump on your chest.
January 26th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Speaking of that,
Hey isn’t that Tyler Walker in the Nats bullpen?

I’m always amazed at how stuff like this is found on the internet. This blog is too good.
Why does Chase always wear that beanie?
January 26th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
i love the kid in the black hat that runs around the Frenetic to get a better spot near chase
January 26th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Words can not describe how happy that made me.
Now, please play the next video where Ryan Howard single handedly push starts a stalled 5 speed on I-95 and the one where Roy Halladay thwarts a Broad Street mugger.
January 26th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
@muscles….hahaha awesome. That kid was not about to be denied. He was going in for the rape.
January 26th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
They originally asked me to do the appearance at the school, but that pesky Megan’s Law got in the way.
January 26th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
i would’ve pissed myself.
January 26th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Who is this Clifford Lee you speak of?
January 26th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
In other news, Phillies claim infielder Brian Bocock off waivers…. Let the fan club names begin
January 26th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
I wish Chase came to my school.
January 26th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
I’d rather be the Phanatic. He got to give him a kiss!
And yes, that little kid in the black hat is very smart.
January 26th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Doc’s Cocks – the amazing starter/closer duo.

January 26th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
I love how the teacher on the right is encouraging the kids to mob him.
January 26th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
…and then he goes, “Be A Phanatic About Reading….BE A FUCKING PHANATIC ABOUT READING!!!”
January 26th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
can’t wait to see bocock at schwing training
January 26th, 2010 at 7:10 pm
Dammit, three seconds later, Amelia Bedelia flashes her tits.
January 26th, 2010 at 7:20 pm
One of the best names in Baseball, most definitely!
January 27th, 2010 at 8:14 am
Cliff Lee? Are you serious? Read my wikipedia page. It qoutes me stating the fact that I was responsible for the sucess of the Phillies in 2007 and 2008. You know it… and I know it.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:26 am
+1 for LA is blasted out of his mind. What the hell is he drinking! Inquiring minds want to know. Fightins, let’s get on that!
Yoh dawg…Sarge looks like Randy from Idol.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:34 am
I’m 100% sure that if Chase Utley walked into my college classroom today I would have the exact same reaction
January 27th, 2010 at 10:36 am
How about a fan group called the ‘ Bocock BRO Cocks’ and we all dress up like huge dark wangs?
January 27th, 2010 at 11:38 am
I’m also with 33. with the exception that he’d walk into my office hahaha
January 27th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
If Chase walked into my room, I’d look to see a pass first. But, then again, I’m a responsible teacher. I don’t let anyone walk the halls. I would then escort him to the hallway, and we would both never be seen again…
January 27th, 2010 at 12:18 pm
I have an off topic question. I’m trying to get tickets to see Halladay’s home opener. The Phils have 2 off days in between the start of the season and when Doc’s first start would be. Do you think they’ll keep him on normal rest and push the back end of the rotation back, or will they keep the rotation in order and have Halladay make him first few starts on extra rest? I’m thinking they’ll keep him on normal rest and he’ll debut at CBP on April 14th.
Thoughts????
January 27th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
Buy tickets to the other games, just in case. And, if he isn’t pitching those, sell them on stub hub or via thefightins.com . I bet a whole bunch of games early on will be sold out, so tickets will be in demand.
January 27th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
if you want to see halladays opener, head down to washington on April 5th. See you theeere
January 27th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
@will h. I am hoping Hallady pitches on april 5th. I have tix too.
See you theeere.
January 27th, 2010 at 4:51 pm
I think Chase is trying to hit that. I saw the ole hand on the shoulder move to the teach.
January 27th, 2010 at 6:52 pm
yeah check out 9 victorino jerseys and only 2 utley’s… im guessing they told the kid a mystery phillie would attend.
shawn, how much does the nats org love when the phillies come to town.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
I live in DC and was able to get tickets the day of the Nats home opener because nobody ever wants to watch the Nats.
Then Harry died
January 29th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
will h, ubermuch, it’s the only time they can sell some seats.
January 29th, 2010 at 11:25 pm
Oh you know I’m going to the game in DC on the 5th. You can get tickets on stubhub cheap, too.
February 3rd, 2010 at 11:53 pm
So Chase just got back from robbing a bank?
