Hot off the wire. Per Gordon Edes breaking the news on Yahoo’s Big League Stew:
Breaking: Free-agent pitcher Pedro Martinez passed his physical with the Phillies about 20 minutes ago, clearing the way for him to sign a deal with the defending world champions. A press conference announcing his signing is expected to be held Wednesday in Philadelphia.
If I can get over him still ripely stinking of Met, then I might like this move. Time will tell…

The physical just ended? I thought it started at 11am, wow what did they have this guy do? All I picture is Ivan Drago of Rocky IV with all of the wires attached to his body running on the treadmill with 5 doctors watching intently holding their brows…minus the injections of course

….it would seem a little over-the-top IMHO, but then again, I guess it helped Davey Lopes.

Even though he was a Met, we should all be 100% in favor of this. Nobody should criticize this move, unless it ends up being terrible, which of course nobody wants.

If he stinks up the R-Phils or IronPigs, maybe the front office can pull the wool over the Jays’ eyes and include him in a trade package for Halladay….and maybe money could rain from the sky and Michael Jackson could come back from the dead

I discovered your blog last year when you guys first started and have been enjoying your work ever since. After watching the ASG tonight, I logged on expecting to see clips from Howard’s appearance and maybe something quirky I missed. Instead, I found a disturbing, insensitive comment thread about Pedro Martinez and his midget. In short, I will not be returning to your website, will be removing it from my bookmark and never purchase another shirt from your store.

@Jocksniffer: I’ll give you Pretend Zombie MJ, but I really don’t want to contemplate Real Life Zombie MJ. The Pretend Zombie was less of a freak than the Real Life Non-Zombie.

Although we will be adding another player who uses Soul Glow, I can not support this. Pedro is a douchey rat. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. He’s a Met, and still has his Met mentality. Someone’s gonna have to put their foot in his ass, and get him to wise up. Just come here, and pitch well. No one wants to hear you talk shit, say anything stupid, or embarrass the team by being a clown. Pedro makes Brett Myers look mentally stable. Boom. Outta here.
