Clifton’s looking at you, McCann

McCann Cries

If anyone read the wrap up of the Phillies last win over the Braves on Friday you might have caught this little nugget from Brian McCann, catcher for the Braves and complete cry baby douche:

“He’s got so much power and this is a high school field,” Braves catcher Brian McCann said. “It’s a field where you can wait back as long as you can. With a guy with that size and that power, he doesn’t ever have to come out of his swing. He can just stay back as long as he wants. He’s just a really good hitter.”

High school field? Really? Seriously the whole “band box” thing has gotten extremely old and stupid at this point. It just makes opposing teams and fans look like cry babies when they say stuff like this because if it is in fact a “high school field” then don’t both teams share that advantage during the course of the game? Oh, I’m sorry, I’m using common sense which is expressly by bags of douche like McCann. Now Clifton, after giving up three homers in the game, had this to say when asked about the ballpark:

“Ballpark? Whatever,” Lee said. “I got hit today because I was throwing pitches down the middle. That had nothing to do with the ballpark. It was me throwing balls down the middle and them not missing them. They’re good hitters. The ballpark is an excuse. Yeah, maybe in another ballpark a couple of those would have been fly balls, but they weren’t. They were home runs. It’s my job not to throw the pitches where I did.”

Rough translation: Shut the hell up McCann and stop crying. Nevermind the fact that CBP has been dead in the middle in ESPN Park Factors since it was built, but we won’t get into that because I don’t want to confuse opposing fans who might lurk in here with facts. Artists rendition of what McCann thinks CBP is like ATJ…

  1. Scott Says:

McCann needs what LA would lovingly call a “bowtie.”

  2. bigmyc Says:

    That would be one..kickass..wiffle..ball..field.

  3. dwhitmore Says:

after hearing these quotes it is now obvious that both him and smoltz have spent many nights feverishly beating off to the face that their home ballpark is HUGE(like safeco)

  4. Saint Says:

That would be one intimidating high school field… looks more like they should release some lions in that bitch

  5. VICTORYno8 Says:

a high school field with that many seats would certainly be intimidating. especially if they could sell out the way the phils do.

  6. Rudy Says:

oww….this picture is hurting my eyes

  7. Fran Says:

that would be the sickest wiffle ball field ever

  8. Jesus Hitler Christ Says:

Well, let’s be honest… it’s 355 to the gap in left field… and it used to be 345…. don’t let the distance markers fool you.

  9. scrapplegargle Says:

the biggest killer of this myth is our boys’ HRs cracked away vs. home. were there a distinct Bank Effect then the difference would be bigger than it is (not). fact is, our boys crush the ball more than the other posers…nuf said.

  10. Fink Says:

You don’t see 45,000 a night at a high school field, although the crowds at the Ted are more high school-like. The Braves have always been a bunch of whiny bitches, and it starts with their manager, Bobby Cox. It’s never their fault when they lose. It’s the umpire, the ballpark, etc. I guess when you only cashed in one of those 14 straight division titles with a word series win, you had better come up with plenty of excuses.

  11. Name (required) Says:

could you imaginie how crazy the crowd would be if they were that close lol

I submit that as exhibit A for all the people who believe CBP is a “bandbox” notice, Citi Field (No. 5) yields more homeruns than CBP (No. 9). I think it is about time everyone just admits that the Phillies are the world series champs and can hit in any park you put them in. The Fightin’s can flat out hit, deal with it

  13. Paaaaaaay-dro's soul glo Says:

If McCann thinks it’s as small as my wiffle ball field, why didn’t he hit one out?

  14. HummerX Says:

    that is kinda awesome actually

  15. WB-Tony Says:

There’s no doubt they can hit it out of the park, anywhere, I just wish they could get hits inside the walls when there are runners on the bases…

  16. Gonzo Says:

Kyle, the website you linked is to HR Factor, which is an equation I cannot even begin to understand. It has something to do with the amount of homers during Mets games at home compared to on the road. The best website I could find is this:

    http://www.hittrackeronline.com/stadiums.php

There are 2.77 homers per game in Philly, 1.67 homers per game in NY and 1.42 homers per game in ATL.

  17. bigmyc Says:

    It looks like Arena Baseball…hey….

  18. Jesus Hitler Christ Says:

the steepness of those upper deck seats would scare the bejesus out of me

  19. Dave Says:

That picture almost makes me think that a seven man infield could be possible.

  20. gm-carson Says:

McCann is a punk ass bitch. I’m tired of these whiny cunts complaining about the park dimensions. They’re playing on the same fucking field when they’re in town, so quit the fucking hissy fits.

  21. John Says:

is that a picture of the new Yankee Stadium?

  22. Ryan from LV Says:

Is this a teaser from the sequel BASEketball 2???

  23. Gonzo Says:

can we get a live blog for the game tonight?

  24. Gonzo Says:

I started a Live Blog for the game. I hope this link works. Come one, come all.

    this link works.

  26. Gabrielle Says:

ah i’d blog with y’all, buuuuuut the new true blood is on and i’m obsessed.

  27. Watrick Says:

I swear I’ve been to this place in my nightmares. It looks all too familiar.

  28. FrankieHaz Says:

CBP is ninth in HR per game with 1.122… and have hit 94 HR at home and 91 on the road.

  29. GenericFanGroup Says:

That really has the feeling I had when I went to Old Yankee Stadium. I kept wondering how the upper level didnt collapse on me.

  30. Gonzo Says:

The Phils have hit 93 homers at home

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/phi/stats/bycategory?cat=Batting&type=33&year=season_2009&qualified=0&sort=6

And opponents have hit 86 in CBP

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/phi/stats/bycategory?cat=Pitching&type=33&year=season_2009&qualified=0&sort=113

93 plus 86 is 179 homers in 64 games. which is almost 3 per game.

  31. jiggahoo Says:

There haven’t been many HRs hit at Citi becasue every game has the mets in it. The team has less HRs than our 3-5 hitters, so obviously the HR/G will be low.

  32. CarlaKnows Says:

The pussy wasn’t complaining when they hit 3 of Lee!!!

  33. TK Says:

    @ Gonzo
The Phils and their opponents have hit 181 HRs at CBP through 64 CBP games, that’s 2.83 per game.

The Phils and their opponents have hit 162 HRs in other ballparks through 64 Phils road games, that’s 2.53 per game.

I don’t see how that difference makes CBP a bandbox? What it means is that the Phils hit a lot of HRs and their pitchers also give up a lot of HRs….at home AND on the road.

Another way to look at it is the example of Citi Field being a pitchers dream. If it truly were then I’d expect to see a significant difference in the number of HRs the Mets and their opponents have hit at Citi Field vs. the number they’ve hit elsewhere…..

    Results:
The Mets and their opponents have hit 110 HRs at Citi Field through 66 games, that’s 1.67 per game.

The Mets and their opponents have hit 90 HRs in other ballparks through 65 road games, that’s 1.35 per game.

That would tell me that it’s easier to hit a HR at Citi Field than it is to hit one away from Citi Field.

In other words, the Mets don’t really hit HRs at Home or on the Road, and the Mets pitchers don’t really give up HRs, at Home or on the Road.

  34. Gonzo Says:

TK: you make some excellent points and have swayed me a lil bit, but only a lil.

I just cant get over the fact that the wall from the right field pole to center field is probably shorter than every wall in the league. as well as the wall from the left field pole to the left-centerfield alley is short as well.

  35. Gonzo Says:

and by shorter, i mean distance from the plate.

  36. Tara Says:

Brian McCann just said the field was small, and was complenting the Phillies team. He plays hard, and an all-around great guy. He is basically the Braves captain.

It’s a small field, no one can deny that!

Leave McCann alone, y’all Jack Ass Phillies Fans are just jealous you don’t have an all-star catcher like him.

Why are all Phillies fans so low-class? Are all the people in Philadelphia this low-class?

  37. Tara(go Braves!) Says:

Brian wasnt “complaining” he was noting the field was small, and the Phillies line-up has power. No one is disagreeing with him.

You wanna call someone a cry baby? Call Jimmy Rollins a cry baby. He’s the one who cried when he lost the World Series.

Phillies fans need to keep their big-fat low-class mouths shut, and show some respect to other teams.

  38. Dusty Says:

Hey! I’m Dusty, these are my characters for my awsome neopets guild. They are all related to one of the other characters except Braxton. Most of them know eachother from somewhere as well.
