How would you rate the Phillies’ season so far? |
| They’ve underperformed… too much inconsistency. | |
| They’ve exceeded my expectations. | |
| This is exactly where I thought they’d be right now. | |

“[E]xactly where I thought they’d be” isn’t an endorsement of where they are. I’m surprised so many people are voting that this team has “underperformed.”
They certainly have been inconsistent but that’s what any observant fan should’ve expected. The rotation has several question marks and the important bats (basically everyone but Utley) have track records that show they can be streaky. The team’s record at the All Star break reflects what we all should have seen in April: they’re the best team in a shaky division by a narrow margin.
The fact that they’ve played better second halves in recent seasons hopefully will be the difference this year.
Also, I’m pretty glad the break is interrupting the Mets’ streak. Maybe a week off will cool them down.

Under Manuel’s tenure the Phillies have had very good performances following the break…
2005: 43-30 (.589)
2006: 45-30 (.600)
2007: 45-29 (.608)
In order to reach the 90-win plateau, they will have to go 38-28 (.575). Difficult, but not impossible. Whether that’s good enough to win the division remains to be seen, but does any other team in the NL East look capable of going ten games or more over .500 down the stretch?

As pessimistic as most Philly fans are, I simply cannot believe that only two people voted for “exceeded my expectactions.” Really?

I was one of those two, madonna.
I was rather optimistic coming into the season, but still, my positive outlook kept picturing Johan Santana in a Mets uniform. Considering most of the baseball predictors said the Mets would run away with it, I’d call a half-game All-Star break lead “exceeding my expectations.”

it’s appropriate that this poll is sponsored by the drug phentermine.
in addition to jimmy rollins needing to shed a few pounds, i’d like to see the fitins shed 438 caucasian pounds by getting rid of soft-in-the-head/soft-in-the-belly adam eaton and brett myers. just get rid of them along the lines of the bobby abreu trade: addition by subtraction.
thanks for listening.

I voted for exceeding my expectations. So far they have. The Mets are surging though. Second half will be interesting…
