For anyone who thought the Phillies might want to take a stab at trading for Seattle pitcher Eric Bedard, please note that Mr. Bedard is now residing comfortable on the 15-day disabled list. So… yeah.
According to Yahoo! Sports,
The Mariners also placed opening-day starter Erik Bedard on the 15-day disabled list with stiffness in his left shoulder. The move, retroactive to July 5, means Bedard will be eligible to return on July 20 — and will miss some chances to be showcased for teams interested in possibly trading for him before the July 31 deadline for deals without waivers. Bedard has just six wins in 15 starts and has not pitched since going five innings on July 4, extending his trend of not being able to pitch deep into games.

When I saw this, I wondered whether Sexson could be had on the cheap. Right-handed power bat off the bench? Why not?

I’ve been wondering the same thing about Sexson. Taguchi’s spot is just being wasted as it is. And wasn’t Charlie his first hitting coach in the majors? Maybe he could get him back on track.

he’s just going to get rest before the break. It’s like us sending down Happ, he’s fine. All it means is that we can’t make the trade until he comes off

As a transplanted Philadelphian living in Baltimore for lo these past 10 years, I can honestly say that a pic of Erik Bedard on this website and the resulting thought of that pansy in a Phillies uni makes me shiver. Absolutely no backbone on that young man, and you can rest assured that this won’t be his last stint on the 15 day DL this season. Gillick can’t be looking at him, right?

Capt,
According to one article at the Seattle Times, Gillick’s post-Sabathia/Harden wish list looks like this:
1. Bedard (but at a discount because of the DL)
2a. A.J. Burnett
2b. Randy Wolf
3. Satchel Paige; in other words, nobody
Bedard’s been sweet-talking the Phillies on local radio, so it looks as if he’s trying his best to get himself into red pinstripes before August 1.

I’m willing to give him vote of confidence on a “change of scenery…” if he comes cheap that is.
