Rockies at Phillies: The Story So Far…
Posted by Chamomiles Davis at 7:18 pm ET 5 Comments

Score tied at 4 after three innings.

The Phils scored four runs… off of one hit. There’s something you don’t see everyday.

If I have time I’ll have to do some research and find the game in which the Phillies scored the most runs off of the fewest hits. Were there any games where they scored runs without a single hit? They’ve played almost 19,000 games, so it must have happened at least once, right?

Andy Hawkins of the Yankees tossed a no-hitter and LOST 4-0 back in 1990 against the White Sox. That is the most amount of runs scored by a team that got no-hit (Click the link below for box score). There were 7 games a team scored 3 runs while getting 1 hit or less.

The “Play Index” or P.I. on that website is awesome. I don’t have a subscription, so I cant do too much with it.

I should note those stats are from 1956 to present day.

This post reminded me of the time that the Mets’ Frank Viola took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Phils, and Dickie Thon broke it up with a grand slam.

My hat is off to you and your fine researching skills!

From what I could find the Phils have gotten no hit and scored 1 run three times: July 29, 1968 against the Reds; May 17, 1963 against the Colt .45s; and September 13, 1925 against the Brooklyn Robins (aka the Dodgers)…
Here is the boxscore for the 1968 game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI196807292.shtml

That was much more fun then doing work
