Kind of a misstatement there Hernia, even though I get the point. We beat the shit out of St. Louis 28-12 in June, but we still lost the series. It only takes one run to win a game.

What do you guys/gals think of the lineup tonight? Some interesting thoughts, Dobbs at 1st, Feliz at third, Howard DH. Or Dobbs at DH, Feliz on the bench, Stairs DH. How ever you put it on paper, I like our lineup against Shields.

I have mixed feelings about Howard at DH. On the one hand, he’s been struggling at the plate. On the other hand, his defensive mistakes are starting to scare the hell out of me. On the third hand (I have a genetic abnormality, don’t laugh), you simply can’t bench a player like Howard who could go off at any time.

In any case, he can’t possibly do worse that Coste did last night, can he?

I have never understood pinch running/replacing Burrell and yet never replacing Howard late in the game. He plays first wayy worse than Burrell plays left. And playing first is easy!

I just like Dobbs at DH, but I did consider possibly playing him at first with Howard at DH. Stairs can always pinch hit if we need some Power. Feliz is too good defensively and he hit well last night.

You can’t bench Howard no matter what because every team has to pitch to him like hes an MVP. If he just realized their approach hed be fine, working the count and committing to his swing on hitters counts instead of check swinging every pitch and going around half the time. The only change you could maybe make is staggering the lefthanded bats but you cant do that at this point either, especially against a righty.

P.S. I’m fine with Howard always having the green light on 3-0 counts,its worked out before, but I like it better with guys on base. That swing last night with no one on I thought was pathetic.

They pinch run Bruntlett because Pat is one of the slowest baserunners in MLB. Howard, as big as he is, is a pretty decent baserunner. Plus the one major mistake in the first inning with Howard, was Hamels’ fault. I like the team that got us here. Good days, bad days, sometimes ‘risky’ plays, but I want the starters in their regular positions. Victorino should hit in the 2nd hole tonight, and Dobbs should be DH. Or start Dobbs at 3rd and make the switch for Feliz later in the game and put Stairs in as DH. Either one works, but I want Vic batting 2nd. If Rollins takes his ABs like last night, Vic needs to be the spark plug. He’s been doing it all postseason, and I think he can continue to do so.

Thats a good point MP, but I actually like Victirino batting 6th with Dobbs behind him. The bottom of the lineup has been thankfully very productive, and every game Shane has batted down there, they’ve carried the offense.

Although with Shane refusing to ever get out, it might be better to have Chase behind him, and maybe Howard could get some RBIs too.

The Rays “didn’t lose by much.” I’m just glad the game wasn’t closer than 3-2, then I really wouldn’t have been sweating the 9th.

Howard DH, let Feliz leadoff, maybe switch up Stairs for DH if Howard doesn’t pan out, Dobbs at 1st. I don’t know what to do with Rollins, but he needs to get his mind off of the 7 day break. Charlie said Howard was looking for his homerun swat during the layover, and that may be the case, but I think he needs to be coached a little better with Shield’s pitching than Kazmir’s.

As we’ve already established, you cannot replace the DH during the game. If you DH Howard he must stay DH the entire game. If Howard were DH, the pithcer has to hit or the DH spot must be pinch-hitted the rest of the game. As Charlie said, he wants them playing like they did all year – in the WS you want to put Dobbs at first? No way.

Listening to this discussion about the DH rule reminds me of why I consider it such an abomination. God, I can’t wait until this series goes back to a decent, National League ballpark.
