I saw this guy after Manny’s circuit clout, but just thought he was making a stupid face because he was, you know, stupid. I love the moment where his “O” face goes from happy to horrified. I imagine he had a similar look on his face when he first saw Ibañez’s 8th-inning bomb. This morning. On ESPN.

A special ‘thanks’ to dmac at Walkoff Walk for the source video. Also, a hearty ‘much obliged’ to dmac at Philadelphia Will Do.

With the exception of my 13-hour workday, this baseball-free Wednesday was pretty relaxing. I’ll admit to feeling a little cold and alone without any sort of game on the tube, but I manage to fill that negative space as I always do: by obsessing over Paul Simon’s Graceland, eating too many Freezie Pops and dicking around with Photoshop.

¡Hora de Helado!
¡Hora de Helado!

If you’re not into the whole “Chooch + Ice Cream” thing, I suggest you take a good hard look in the mirror and ask yourself where you went wrong in your life.

Here’s some actual news:

Dodgers rotation goes Kershaw, Padilla, Kuroda, Wolf. So it’s Hamels and Kershaw to kick off the series. And Big Zo seems to think Cholly has fingered Pedro to start Game 2. Martinez vs. Padilla. Not exactly a marquee matchup along the lines of Lee vs. Sabathia, but it’s definitely a curiosity.

Oh yeah. Don’t be surprised if they don’t play on Sunday. Big-ass Nor’easter coming in this weekend.

According to Andy Martino: “Team sources say that Brett Myers is off the LCS roster.”

Breaking:

Kendrick and Myers yanked from the NLCS roster in favor of Park and Bruntlett.

Was pointed towards a little nugget of joy by Tom C. of Phillies Breakdown yesterday, found on Huston Street’s MLBlog.

We can all agree that the officiating in this particular series was awful, with bad calls going both ways. At this point, it has been beaten into the ground by the blog chatter, the radio and TV outlets, the mainstream media, conversations with your Pop, the watercooler, the senior citizens’ mixers that some of us go to when we’re looking to spice up our love lives, etc.

All you can do is stop whining about it. Take it from Zen Master Street:

You can either spend time thinking about what’s unfair, or you can spend time thinking about changing your situation. So any energy spent on feeling sorry for yourself is wasted energy.

Sound final thoughts from a top-notch* closer, especially after he spent the three preceding paragraphs bitching about the controversial Chase Utley foul-ball/infield single that made Howard’s ensuing sac fly possible during Sunday night’s 6-5 victory over the Rockies:

The single by Chase Utley in the ninth inning should have been a foul ball. He hit it, and the ball definitely hit his leg. The umpires didn’t see it.

I also thought he was out at first base, but they said my throw pulled Todd Helton off the bag… Now we have to win to stay alive.

We can argue all night long whether the ball hit him. We can argue all night long whether he was safe at first base. Actually, there’s not much of an argument. It’s right there on video.

As long as you don’t spend too much time and energy dwelling on everything that you want to scream about … You’ve got to move past it. You have to be stronger than the situation.

Just because you’re not openly calling the umps “no-good shit-for-brains fucktard morons” (like most of us were) doesn’t mean you’re not bitching, Street. And as much as you spout off half-baked Tony Robbins bullshit in an attempt to sound calm and collected, you should keep in mind that plenty of shitty calls went against the Phillies this past week, too. *coughStairscough*

Nice Gams.

Scott Eyre is blogging about the 2009 Playoffs at MLBlogs.com. His latest entry contained some nice things to say about embattled closer Brad Lidge, and a little about his ankle injury during last night’s game. According to Eyre, it’s just a mild sprain of the right ankle, and he’ll be able to pitch:

You can bet on that. Ruben Amaro Jr. would have to hold me down and tie me up and that’s not going to happen because I’m bigger than he is.

Scotty’s the man. And since you probably haven’t read a single word above the picture, here’s a picture.

Bud Selig
Did you enjoy your 2 to 4 hours of sleep, Delaware Valley?

See this withered old scumbag with the pussy-ass, dainty, liverspotted hands of an undead Fancy Lad? The sunken, beady eyes set over a shapeless lump of a chin? That cheap shitty wig that Morrie sold him? He’s the reason the Delaware Valley is sleepy and/or late for work today. It’s a good thing our boys won last night, because that’s an edge we don’t need today.

Got a pen? Paper? Envelope? Stamp? Then why don’t you send a little thank you note over to our buddy Commissioner Selig. You know, for the 10:07 start time, for the two day games last week, for 5a + 5b, and probably more before the playoffs end.

I’m not alone when I say I love The Fightins Dot Com. Plenty of you out there do, too. I love seeing you guys rocking the Fightins x Birdland shirts when I’m out at the game. It’s like a giant inside joke when we see each other. So I took some time during the game today to wander around and try to catch a few of you at the Bank.

I didn’t write down the names, and tried my best to remember them. Email me and I’ll make sure I fill in the blanks and give a proper shout-out. Each picture clickable for full-size (1200x900px).

UPDATE: Got this from a couple of readers tonight via Meech.
My (very pregnant) wife and I just got our new “Cadillac Time” and “The Sarge” t-shirts in the mail yesterday and decided to debut them at the game today.  Then to our surprise, while passing the Phillies Newstand, we happened to notice that the one and only Sarge Mathews  was signing copies of his book today.  So of course, we had to stop for a book and picture.
The Sarge was quite pleased to see the shirts (he seemed to think they sold them at the ballpark). Anyway, just thought you’d enjoy.
